I absolutely love this place. My dad showed me this place, and every time I've gone, I've never been disappointed. They are quick to seat you and serve your food. It's a little place, tucked away in the shopping strip over on the Eastside. Limited parking, but I've never had any issues. I always get their pad Thai noodles with no peanuts. I've brought family and friends there, and they all have loved it too. I definitely recommend stopping in to eat. read more

I have heard good things however this was my first trip to Rolling Wok and I will admit I'm pleasantly surprised. When I entered I was a little turned away by the plastic coverings on the table. It's a small spot, I enjoy finding small spots no one has heard of. Nice atmosphere with some cool decor. Of course nowadays Buda has a mask on lol. My wife and I stopped in to grab dinner walked in and they were busy we were acknowledged quickly and sat at a table in the corner. The waitress was fast to bring waters, ask for drinks and then ask if any menu questions. After we order the food was very well prepared and spicy like we asked. We will go back again read more

My rating for the food is three stars, but I'm adding an extra star because the service was excellent. It pains me not to be able to give it a higher rating but I felt like the food was just average. It was good but not great. My husband and I stopped here for dinner after hearing good things about this place from one of his friends. I got the Szechwan chicken because I was really craving some good Szechwan and I haven't been able to find it at a lot of Asian restaurants. They have a 1-5 spice level and I got 3 because I wanted it kind of spicy. My husband ordered a small Tom Kha Gai soup and pork and egg roll vermicelli. I was disappointed with my Szechwan chicken dish because it was missing that usual sweet flavor in the sauce. It was spicy enough but just wasn't sweet. It didn't really wow me. My husband's vermicelli came with a lot of lettuce and not much noodles or bean sprouts. We thought the lettuce was odd because we've ordered this dish at many other places and they've never included lettuce. He would rather have had more noodles and sprouts instead. The Tom Kha Gai tasted like it was missing something; maybe Kaffir lime leaves or lemongrass. It just didn't have that zing that we're used to. The food wasn't bad but we've had better versions of it in other places. Also, they charged me $2.50 extra for adding chicken to my dish. I think all stir-fried dishes should automatically come with meat. That's what they do at most restaurants. The service we got from both of the servers who waited on us was stellar. They were both super friendly and nice. The place is cute, cozy and clean and had about nine tables. There was another room for dining but it was closed off when we were there. I probably wouldn't come back again because I can find better food at other places. One thing I've noticed is that my favorite restaurants are those that do one thing and do it very well. This place serves Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai and Laotian food. I think some restaurants that try to do everything don't do any of them very well. read more

Looking for authentic Lao Food? Rolling Wok is definitely one of Des Moines' gems for amazing food and service! Located in a Mexican plaza on Grand, the place does stand out! I've tried some Thai dishes, but I tend to lean towards the Lao selection. Drunken Noodle here has a deliciously Smokey flavor and they generously serve it with veggies and meats! It's actually not an overload of noodles! The papaya salad and sticky rice combos with deliciously seasoned fried chicken wings are on point. The Heavenly beef is also a delicious option for those who are beef jerky lovers. Let's just say, if you love beef jerky, Rolling Wok's beef jerky is definitely in competition for the best options you can possibly find served in a restaurant. I've tried the Kapoon and have been extremely satisfied and delighted to find the dish as it's not always easy to find. Some restaurants may have it on hand if you ask, but it's not on the menu like it is here. This place is that cross btwn a hole in the wall, and moderate dining. I would say it's comfortable for family dinners as long as you don't mind not having a booth and your primary focus is to eat GOOD FOOD! We went on a Sunday and they were pretty busy. The staff were friendly and accommodating. It's a small place. The Pho soup was delicious, only 1 size to choose from but it was a huge bowl. This was the first Asian restaurant I have eaten at in Des Moines when I first moved here a few years back. This restaurant is tucked in the plaza surrounded by Mexican restaurants and businesses. Parking can be difficult at times since it is a small lot shared by multiple businesses. The food here us great! I have eaten here countless times and have not had an unpleasant experience. They have southeast Asian dishes that other Asian restaurants do not have. Usually the same staff is working and they are very friendly. Their bubble tea drinks here are well made. Located in a small strip on Grand, Rolling Wok looks like a Vietnamese staple for a number of people. The spring rolls were good. My companion got the curry chicken and I got the Pho. I am extremely critical when it comes to trying out restaurants that say they serve Laotian food because more often than not, I do not find authentic Laotian food. Fortunately, Rolling Wok did not disappoint me. I was pleasantly surprised to see traditional dishes like laab (larb) served with sticky rice, spicy papaya salad, and khang phet (spicy red curry). The owners are super friendly and I love talking with them whenever I'm here. I also like their bubble tea. I don't usually like the ice-blended bubble teas but I actually enjoy their bubble tea because it is not extremely icy and watered down. The service is also great. The waiters/waitresses are quick on their feet and kind. I like this place because I feel like I am eating a home cooked meal made by my mom. The food came out quickly and was very flavorful. My only complaints were that the soup was not boiling hot when it arrived at the table. I like my pho soup steaming hot!!!!! And the bean sprouts looked a little old as some had turned brown in color. Other than that, the food was great, the place was clean, and plenty of parking in the lot. You can't go wrong with good Pad Thai for under 6 bucks during lunch. I typically get the pad see eww and hot and sour soup here. I like the location due to its proximity to downtown Des Moines. It's a clean attractive building with attentive staff. The only downsides are the bubble tea (not fresh) and although the quality of the food is good, it is not spectacular as a typical pan-asian restaurant. This place has excellent pho and drunken noodles! I got the beef and meatball pho (my go to dish!) in a large bowl and it was very good.
