My boyfriend and I stopped in early on a Friday evening. We walked in and were immediately greeted and the 4 tables were all open. We ordered egg rolls, crab rangoons, beef lo mein with egg drop soup, and hot and sour soup. It was our first time here, so we wanted to try it all. The food was delicious and plenty for my boyfriend & I and a small amount of leftovers. The egg rolls lived up to the hype everyone is talking about. I am not typically a fan, but these were delicious. There's a spice or something that they add that levels up the flavor and with a nice crispy crunch when you bite into it, you can't go wrong with these. We also really enjoyed their rangoons. They were cooked to perfection, but what makes them even better is dipping it in their duck sauce. 10/10 for the egg-rolls and the crab rangoons. For the main we ordered the beef lo mein. It had so much flavor and we enjoyed it a lot. We also tried both the soups. The hot and sour was good, but I have had better elsewhere. My boyfriend really enjoyed the egg drop soup. He liked that it had veggies and tofu in it and was different than other places we have tried 9/10. We really loved this place and are already planning to come back soon even though it is 25 minutes from us, but it's totally worth the drive. This place was on my list of restaurants to try for a long time so my husband and I had dinner there last night. It's a tiny hole in the wall place with only five tables. There was a line all the way to the door. It's a very popular place. I got the Yusiang Chicken and my husband got the Hunan Chicken. The entrees came with either: an egg roll , a crab Rangoon, hot and sour soup or egg drop soup. I really liked my entree. It was spicy and sweet and came out piping hot. I thought the egg roll was just average, though, and was disappointed that there was no homemade sweet and sour sauce that came with it. There were just packets of duck sauce. My husband thought his dish was just ok but his crab Rangoon was delicious. It was filled with a slightly sweet cream cheese filling. I had a bite of it and agreed it was very tasty, The service was very good and the employees were very friendly. I thought the prices were pretty good and lower than other Chinese restaurants we had been to. The amount of food we got was really good, too. We both ate half or what we got and had leftovers for lunch the next day. That's always nice. I would definitely come back again. They serve Laotian and Thai food, too. I had such a great experience here! I ordered the chicken and shrimp combination lo mein and the tofu mixed vegetables with fried rice -- both were so good. The lo mein had the perfect flavor and balance, and the tofu with veggies tasted super fresh and well-seasoned. The egg roll was also delicious -- crispy, hot, and flavorful without being greasy. The employees (or maybe the owners!) were so lovely and kind, and the food came out really fast. There isn't a ton of seating inside, but it wasn't busy when we went, so we got a table easily. I've seen good reviews of this place for awhile, but rarely get to the southside. Last Monday I had a craving for Chinese so I googled them to check their hours and phone number as I was going to make a special trip there. Their website popped up and said they were open until 8:00. I jumped in the car and was off. I called them to place a take out order when I was half way there, got voicemail. I called again a few minutes later, got another voicemail. The party I was calling was not available. I figured they must be too busy to answer the phone. When I pulled up to their door, there was a hand written note stating that they were closed Monday and Tuesday. I was not happy !!!! I know that I had passed at least 10 Chinese places on my way there, so I decided to stop at Mr Egg Roll at Indianola and SE14th. Had never been there before, but passed by it many times over the years. It was 7:30, a half hour before they closed. I should have known something was wrong when my General Tao' and rice dinner was given to me in about 2 minutes. When I got home to eat it, it was so dry and chewy I had to wonder just how long it had been sitting in the heat tray before I bought it. A couple of bites and they were all the same. I threw it in the trash. Overall, not a good night to have craved Chinese. I'll never go back to Mr Egg Roll, and will only try Sam's Fine Egg Rolls if I'm already in the area for another reason. This was a destination dinner on our way to Minnesota. We have gone there a few times and if you try it you will know why! The Egg Rolls are absolutely fabulous!! Like none I've ever had before. So flavorful and perfectly cooked. You can make a meal out of those, and throw in a few great crab rangoons Sam makes. Our food was very fresh and hot and incredible. Sam will visit with you if you want to ask any questions or request something special. He is a hard working and great guy. The Pad Thai is probably my favorite dish, well maybe that's because I get it every time, love the mix of shrimp and chicken in mine. You absolutely HAVE to get the egg rolls.....they are the BEST! The crab Rangoon's were pretty good too and had a good amount of filling in them. We also tried the shrimp egg rolls which were different but pretty good if you dip them in the sauce they come with. My family shared an order of orange chicken, general chicken, chicken lo mein, and angry chicken. The orange chicken had good flavor and the angry chicken was SPICY!!! The only thing that could have made it better was if the chicken was crispier (which is always impossible with any takeout so not holding that against them). The lady working the counter and Sam (the chef/owner), were both super nice and funny. We placed a pretty big order and Sam was able to whip everything up in what seemed like less than 15 minutes! I enjoyed my meal tonight! I had both kinds of egg roll, a bite of crab Rangoon, a spoonful of egg drop soup and shrimp pad Thai. I loved the chicken egg roll which was 1/4 of the size of the pork/bacon egg roll. I wouldn't order the pork/bacon again because I wasn't in love with the flavor. The egg drop was a little thick but it had a good flavor and better than most. The crab Rangoon was SWEET and I mean flavor. A little too sweet for me. Arrived on a Thursday night about 6pm. The parking in front of the place was pretty full. A few people inside were ordering take out options. We were greeted by Sam with a warm smile and wave. Once we said we would dine in, we were asked to sit anywhere. Inside is small and has 2 large round tables and 2 small square tables. With people in and put, it gets a bit crowded. Menus were handed out and waters provided. Ordered a side of eggrolls and crab rangoons as well as Mongolian pork and sweet and sour chicken. The sweet and sour chicken was very good, came with pineapple, carrots celery and a scoop of rice. Food was better than expected. Flavor was great and food came out hot! With 4.5 stars after 35 reviews, I had really high hopes that this would be Asian food heaven. Sadly, that wasn't how I felt about it. My husband ordered and picked up the food on his way home from work so I can't review that process. It was a Friday night, a bit before 6:00 pm. He did tell me that when he got there, the place was dead and he questioned if it was actually good. By the time he ordered, there was a line formed behind him so that squashed his fears. I had the Chicken Lo Mein with steamed rice and a crab rangoon. He had the Beef Pud Thai with Hot & Sour soup. My Lo Mein was just ok. Nothing special about it at all. It was piping hot though. So much so that my carton had melted through and formed a pool of liquid into my husband's carton of food. I tasted his Beef Pud Thai and was so disappointed. Where was the normal Pad Thai fast that I loved? Maybe since it was Beef and not a white meat they use a different sauce? It was just so bland. It lacked flavor and was just undesirable to me. It did stay hot as well. I'm not going to give up on this place though. It's convent for my husband to stop on his way home and these other reviews keep me optimistic. I just need to try something with more flavor. I'll get something "spicy" next time. read more

I got shrimp fried rice for lunch. It was flavorful, and the portion was massive. A lot of fried rice around the Metro taste like grease, or has no flavor, this definitely had some complexity to it. It had a lot of shrimp, which for the $15 price I was hoping that it would have a ton of it and it did not disappoint. It was a little on the greasy side and I'm not a big fan of frozen vegetables in fried rice. I would have preferred more egg instead of the frozen vegetables. Overall it was good, but I'm not sure that it was $15 worth of good. I was super excited about the egg roll and it didn't taste very different than other egg rolls from other places, so that was a big disappointment. First off they earn some stars for a quick delivery! I wasn't planning to inhale 1000 calories tonight but when the craving hit they were here in less than 30 minutes. The food was impressive for Chinese take out. Delivered piping hot and tasty. If you like soy sauce, ask for extra. I do wish they had veggie egg rolls but my thighs are greatful they didn't. What an amazing hidden gem. I had heard about sam`s for years but had never been there. It is hidden in the back corner of the shopping center so keep an eye out when headed there. The restaurant is very small, but it seemed like they did a huge carryout business. There were just two people working. The owner was in the kitchen cooking, which you could see from the tables. Mine had a nice spice level to is. There was enough food for atleast two meals on each of our plates. The only draw back was you do smell like egg rolls when you leave. First off the service here is amazing, probably some of the best I've ever had. Sam and his wife talked to us about our interests and they wanted us to feel at home there. Everyone that got food that day seemed to know Sam and he was friendly with everybody. First off we got egg drop soup, good. We ordered sides of egg rolls and crab rangoon, both were fantastic really loved the crab rangoons. I ordered sesame chicken and my wife got orange chicken. Both meals were great, only wish I had a bit more rice. We also tried the bacon and pork eggroll, I thought this was delicious, could really taste the bacon and sausage in it. Very small little place in a strip mall. Probably room for 15 people at the tables max. Could get crowded very easily. We stopped by and sat down. Served by a waitress who was friendly, but had a thick accent and misunderstood our order. We didn't complain and when the food arrived was extremely fresh and hot. 1 cook prepares all the food, I assume this is Sam. He is friendly and greets and thanks everyone that comes in from the kitchen as he's cooking. We waited only a short time for our food even though the place was constantly bombarded by takeout orders. Flavors are better than average and portions are large.
