    Teriyaki Chicken

This place offers pretty satisfying food with great volume for price. Quick service and friendly staff. They seem to be closed at night and weekends, but if I'm back here during weekday lunch time, I'll come back!

I thought this was going to be typical food court food but I was wrong. Small menu but mostly cooked to order. I ordered teriyaki chicken which came with veggies and rice for $7.85 and the drink was $2.50. This is generally more than I like to pay for lunch but the quality was worth it.

It's my go to for a good casual teriyaki lunch. Prices are a bit steep but I'm fully satisfied with the food. It's your standard food court teriyaki with all the sriracha and hot sauce fixings that you'd like. Lines can get long when you wait for the lunch hour at 12. I'm pretty sure this is the most popular stand at local bites

After a long time I went back to the new food court on locust St. This is the second time I'm eating at teriyaki boys. The quantity served is good. I would say it's non-spicy teriyaki. I got the beef chicken shrimp teriyaki for $10 which is a good price but the taste is blunt. No spicy at all. May be next time I should ask them to spice it up. It can be a regular eating place.

I got the "lunch special" which was the chicken teriyaki, veggies, fried rice, and a fountain drink for $12.

With time running out on a Sunday evening, we knew we wanted sushi and Akebono was still open so we decided might as well give it a shot. This was quite possibly the best dining experience I've ever had the opportunity to enjoy. Our server Nick picked up on the date night vibes immediately and knew exactly what to do. Curating the entire meal for us, every single bite he brought to our table was everything we wanted and more, from the tempura shiso leaf hamachi serrano to the torched tuna nigiri as the final bite. One of a kind conversation and etiquette through the entire service, exceptional food produces by the chefs, and the corner table on the patio made for a date night we won't soon forget. Get yourself into Akebono if you need yourself a roll or a bowl that will stick with you for a lifetime.

We popped in for a lunch and could not have been more pleased. The modern spacious room was perfect. The cool 80's music was a fun and unexpected touch. Our service was absolutely incredible. Two men assisted us and were so nice. The one guy chatted with us and really made us feel welcome and appreciated. We are from Chicago and found out the owner is as well. The food was fresh and tasty. The portions were very generous. We loved or classic maki rolls and sampled some of their very creative specialty rolls. Wow, every bite was de-lish. I would definitely return.

We started with the dumplings, and they were outstanding--crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. They were the perfect way to start the meal. I ordered the Spicy Beef Ramen, and all I can say is... wow. The broth was rich, bold, and full of depth without overpowering the dish. The beef was incredibly tender, practically falling apart with every bite, and every ingredient came together perfectly. My wife ordered the Miso Ramen and couldn't stop talking about how flavorful and comforting it was. Every spoonful tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The atmosphere was another highlight. The restaurant has a beautiful, open layout with warm lighting, Japanese-inspired décor, and a welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay and enjoy your meal. It feels modern while still being cozy. To top it all off, the service was phenomenal. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling intrusive. Hokkaido delivered on every level--food, atmosphere, and service. We'll definitely be back, and if you're in the Ankeny area and craving ramen, this is a place you need to experience. Highly recommended.

All day Sunday. Generally make it here every time that I get to town. If you had told me how much time I would have spent in Des Moines twenty years ago, I would have said you are nuts. Rolls range from $6.50 to $10.75 on HH. Had the Cali Roll and Crunchy L.A. tonight. Both great. No cucumber on either. Nothing ruins a good piece of sushi like Cucumber. Glass of Chard for $6.50. It's lightly fried with a delicious mango sauce that compliments it perfectly. I never thought I'd enjoy a mango flavor on a sushi roll but it works. Also, the chicken crunch salad is good although there is a bit of an aftertaste. Not sure what it's from. The service is usually pretty good, food comes out quick and you can usually get waited on pretty quickly. I've been there for lunch mostly though. I like the vibes inside, it's always so clean, with plenty of seating inside and there is even outdoor seating if that's your thing. I am definitely a fan and plan to be back again soon! You have to stop by if you're ever downtown or just looking for a good sushi restaurant in DSM.
