Some may go for steaks, but I just stick to the chicken fried steak because there are very few places left in Texas that still do it right. The portion is huge, cooked perfectly, with good gravy and sides. Great atmosphere (also getting harder to find) and friendly service. I look forward to my next visit, hopefully without all the fire fighters needing to be in town. You need a break. I do have a TR recommendation for a South Texas favorite that is also hard to find anymore, pepper steak. Not the Chinese version but two beef patties (hamburger steak) stuffed with jalapenos and cheese covered in brown gravy and served with fries and Texas toast. You can do it.
