The restaurant is decorated in traditional Syrian style and they offer good quality Middle Eastern cuisine. The portions are good with fair prices. We ordered Tabbouleh Salad, Hummus with Beef, Fattet Hummus with Beef Shawarma, Roman Zaman Pizza (Saj) and Roman Zaman Shawarma Platter. Our food was delicious (the cheese in Saj was rather too salty) and we were so full that we couldn't order desserts, even though two of us shared one platter. Roman Zaman has been such an incredible place to have breakfast and lunch when you have a spontaneous decision to go out for food. Each time I have gone the food has been incredible. Although a very busy place, someone is always at the door to greet and seat you somewhere. The staff are direct and quick to get your order which is actually really nice because you avoid those fake conversations that occur because they want tips. The staff here are ready and polite when they get your order and provide you with it in efficient time, which I loved a lot to be honest! The ambiance is actually flexible so to speak. Many people do come here dressed super casual, but even if you were to dress up you wouldn't be "out of touch." You would still fit in. The ambience is catered to both fancy and casual. So do wear what you choose, it gives off a fancy and classy vibe simultaneously. Very cute Syrian style restaurant with authentic decor and a fountain in the center. The food was excellent (we ordered mixed kebabs, shawarma, meat saj, arayes, tabouli, fattoush, and hummus) and especially loved the fresh mint lemonade! Service was great as well. For dessert, we got the kanafeh (which is made fresh and takes 15-25 minutes depending on size, so try to order in advance). I won't comment on their food because I've been here several times to eat and the quality of their food constantly changes. However, just last week I went to try their kanafeh and tea (my mom had their Turkish coffee too. At $8 the kanafeh is definitely Overpriced especially considering I live near Dearborn in Michigan where I never pay more than $3.50 for a slice of kanafeh larger than this. I will however say that because these kanafeh are personal sizes and always come out piping hot and fresh, I loved every bite of this. Not to mention the cheese was in perfect proportion and was delicious. For someone who doesn't know middle-eastern food or doesn't come from that region, i'm sure it's perfect. But for someone's home cuisine, this was missing flavour, spices, texture and everything.. I ordered the following apps: 1) hummus with beef: hummus is below average, beef is cold beef shawarma cut (not fresh, not juicy) 1/5 2) Sausage, they only give like small 5 or 6 pieces, they were cold, no molasses in them, no flavour, just whole lot of flavourless spice! 0/5 3) chicken liver: 0/5 4) chicken wings: 0/5 5) tabouleh Salad: 2/5 6) Gargir Salad: 5/5 For dinner I order the chicken scallop, which might be so many other things but certainly NOT a scallop, this is not how scallops are made in a perfect world. Ok this place is super awesome! My family and I came here with some friends and man were we blown away. Being Lebanese, I can appreciate and acknowledge good middle eastern food and Syrians know how to cook! Their flavours are different from ours but still just as tasty! The lentil soup I had was better than the one my mom makes! And my mom is an amazing cook!! So I was shocked when the flavours just kept on coming, the Fatteh was delicious, the Taboulé was tasty and the fatouch salad was different, I could have used some more sumac myself but it was a pleasant and satisfying different flavour pallet to a classic. I love the falafel, they had a perfect balance of cumin and the right amount of crunch. I think the only thing I thought was a little different and odd was my father ordered a chicken shawarma sandwich and they were served on a bun instead of pita. Don't get me wrong, he said it was tasty, but I'm used to it being on pita not a bun. I think next time I'd ask if they can put it on something different. Tucked away in a plaza in the heart of Mississauga, this Syrian restaurant automatically transports you to the heart of old Damascus the moment you step through the doors. This place is fantastic for date night or a family gathering and I've been here for both. Every time I come, I always start off with the Hummus with beef, almonds & pomegranate dish. It's hummus with a strong aroma of garlic and tahini topped with chunks of well cooked beef strips and coated with juicy pomegranate. This appetizer dish is plenty enough to share amongst two or three people easily. For my main meal, I tend to gravitate towards the grilled options because what's Arab cuisine without some fresh kabobs? I highly recommend the Roman Zaman mix grilled plate. It comes with one beef kabab skewer and one chicken shish tawook skewer. Along with sides of garlic and tahini sauce and of course, freshly baked out of the oven pita bread. Falafel- very dark in color. Tasted slightly different from the falafel am used to. Was ok Roman zaman shawarma platter- beef & chicken. Very dry both of them. Didn't have a great taste to it. Omigosh, what a gem of a find!! Came here for dinner with a friend and was seriously blown away. The service here is as super good, felt they were attentive and the food came so fast. We tried the chicken hummus (my favourite) as well as another mixed kebab dish. I could seriously write about the chicken hummus for days. It had juicy tender warm pieces of chicken, pomegranate seeds, sliced almonds, all with a bed of creamy dreamy hummus and pita for days. This here was in the appetiser section but was like a meal. The felafels were big and tasted great, due to the fact they were made fresh. -ROMAN ZAMAN KIBBEH (MIX) - 2 Fried beef kibbeh, 2 fried potato kibbeh, 2 Fried Helah kibbeh and 2 Grilled Beef Kibbeh. Now Kibbeh was something new and it was like a Jamaican patty. Some of the types were amazing and some not so much. - ROMAN ZAMAN SHAWARMA PLATTER - Beef and chicken Shawarma, pomegranate molasses, garlic sauce. This here was not bad and the meat was cooked well. Presentation of the food was very well. The portion size were ok but as mentioned above the price was on the high-end and could get very expensive with a bigger family. I also got their Watermelon juices which was more like slushy but was amazing. They also have tall hats at the entrance to wear and a picture can be taken at their funky entrance seat. I have been here one time with couple of friends, and i was expecting exquisite experience after being blown by the middle eastern authentic decoration and the copper utensils, the cleanliness and the elegant service. I gave it four stars because of the freshness and the service of the restaurant, not because i was satisfied with the experience from syrian cuisine. The prices are pretty high I would say for the quality and the size of the items on the menu. We ordered chicken and meat shawarma, which in my opinion hard to get right, the chicken shawarma was tasty, flavorful, the thing I didn't like is that it was not roasted perfectly, and didn't have the grill taste which middle eastern shawarma is famous for, in addition to that it was stuffed with french fries which didn't add anything. The meat shawarma wasn't as tasty, but well stuffed with meat, and it tasted nothing like an authentic lamb shawarma. One more thing we ordered and it was claimed to be authentic, cheese manakish, they said it is stuffed with baladi cheese, which on the contrary was stuffed with processed mozzarella that is not as flavorful. I got a beef shawarma and it was 12$ and so small and so sub par. I've had a better shawarma for 5$ I was so so so disappointed. I had four bites and put it down. My boyfriend got the lentil soup that was served luke warm and was very plane. I was so disappointed in this place after hearing the hype and would never go back.
