I brought in about five or six Brooks Brothers suits that I bought at the outlet in Camarillo and he did a fantastic job. His prices are commensurate with the quality of work that he does. So if you are looking to have something done cheap don't come here. But if you value quality and appreciate expert craftsmanship when it comes to your clothes and how you look, Rome Tailors is the place to go. NEVER AGAIN. I had an old Christian Dior suit that I found at a thrift store. that had many small pinholes in the collar. The owner said he could fix it. He charged me $390. I bit the bullet and said to myself that i would pay this in exchange for a fitted, tailored fancy suit. I show up to pick it up and IT STILL HAD THE SAME HOLES. I had to have a New suit re-tailored just a couple of days before my wedding because of a bad job the (previous tailor) did. Everyone I talked to told me it would not be done on time. I called Rome tailor he had me stop by to take a look at the damage. Then he was able to get it back to me on Saturday morning. Before my wedding that was on Sunday! Rome Tailor is a hole in the wall tailoring shop across from the mall in midtown Ventura. Stepping in felt like being transported another era, in the best way possible. I arrived with 6 pairs of jeans, 4 of em from a Dockers clearance sale. Most were 3+ inches too long, and 1+ inches too wide at the cuff. They looked like my dad's slacks from the 90's. It took about half an hour to work through everything. Though I didn't really have a mental model for how much the work should cost, the price was more than I expected. He explained that the bulk of the cost was due to the tapering. Hemming cost much less. I picked the pants up a week later (a day earlier than he estimated). The pants fit perfectly, the creases are aligned, and the quality of the stitching is fantastic. I'll be coming back. read more

Yong is the owner and tailor at Rome. He is the best around. He has been doing custom tailoring for 45 years. There aren't many guys like him around any more. He can build you a custom suit or dress in every imaginable style and fabric. I had him re-cut six of my suites and they are perfect. I am going back to have him make me a custom suit. read more

this tailor destroyed a suit for my fiance 2 weeks before our wedding , pants too short and crotch and waist completely pucker and strings everywhere as well as completely destroying two bridemaid dresses that we don't have time to reorder in the amount of time and took a month to get finished . spent $600 for these items to be done and destroyed- don't recommend! read more

I have had 2 leather motorcycle jackets taken to him. He had to almost remake the lining of one jacket as it was 33 years old. Amazing work and craft. The second was alter the sleeves and zippers. Where to start... This was the first time I had been to this business. My daughter had called and asked them if they could do an alteration of a simple sundress on the same day. The gentleman on the phone told her no problem, and to go ahead and bring in her dresses. When I took her dresses in the gentleman although nice told me they would be ready the next day. I let him know my daughter had called and was told it wouldn't be a problem. He got a bit snippy, made a couple of sarcastic comments, and told me in that case it would be $60. I explained to him that we just wanted a couple of inches off and she had purchased the dress for $2 at a thrift store. His answer was well, you can pay $2 and then $60 to have it the way you want it. When I told him "thank you but no thank you", he dropped the price to $35 for the dress. We usually pay $15 for simple alterations at different local shops. From his response, he seemingly didn't want to do the job that day. He clearly didn't want our business so we probably won't go back for a 2nd chance. read more

Consistently good work on suits and coats that I have brought in, including conversion of one jacket from side-vents to ventless (due to persistent flaring of the seat flap), and removal of excess fabric from the upper back of a couple of other jackets that was causing a bunched-up appearance. One jacket had issues with a ripple around the collar that required a couple of attempts to resolve, but it looks great now. I think that he also makes bespoke suits but I have no experience with this. Pricing is higher than the competition but it's worth it for the quality of the work. read more

Rome Tailor is the best of the best in Ventura for alterations. He's also a "real" tailor who makes very high quality garments from scratch. His alterations and knowledge of clothing repair are second to none. While some may complain about his prices, you truly get what you pay for here. On two other occasions I tried other places for alterations (trying to save some money) only to end up with poor quality work. Lesson learned. Dropped off 2 jackets and a pair of slacks on Tues. I need the sleeves shorter by about 2 inches and the pants shortened 1 1/2 inches. He charged me $112. So $48 a jacket and $16 for the pants. He asked when I wanted them and I said Thursday, when I said that he laughed at me. He got very rude. After talking to a number of friends they said I paid way too much so I went back Wed morning and he had all ready unhemmed the pants and both jackets. He was working on one jacket. I told him I didn't want him working on other 2 items. So he gave them back to me and refunded $64 better then nothing. Then I get home and realize he didn't give me the buttons to the sleeves for 2nd jacket. He was a jack ass and laughed the entire time. Tried to say he would give me a discount of $12 and only charge me $100 I said no. read more
