I heard some great things about this place from Brazilian friends that live in the area so decided to check it out for a dessert. There seemed to be many homeless people hanging out on the street outside the place when we visited. They have a few parking spots and that was good. Place was busy when we walked in and continued to be busy throughout our visit as we decided to have our dessert at the place. Information was written in Portuguese but workers spoke English and were very helpful. I went with a passion fruit mousse. It was very rich and sweet. AMAZING Brazilian snack sized hot foods, dessert, and fresh fruit juices!!! Prices for certain items like the conxinha (Brazilian croquets) for only $3.50 are a crazy deal. The menu items are very rare and hard to find. This place is a gem for sure. We have always stopped by for desserts, but they also serve Hot/Cold Subs and Brazilian Sandwiches. Lots of other desserts and baked good options- Empanadas, coxinhas, brigadeiro cookies, casadinhos cookies, cakes, pastries etc. Our all time favorite is their Tres Leches. It is really light, perfectly sweet, and drenched in leches! I am not a big fan of Flan in general, but my husband really enjoy's their Flan as well. The service is always nice. I like their pastries and bakeries, my fav is the Coxinha with cheese and their puddings. I've had a few kitchen foods like a burger and a steak bomb and have always had a bad experience. The burger wasn't fully cooked and the steak bomb was a sad sandwich with the standard steak, peppers, and onion, Nothing special. Brought my gf today for her first time and she was grossed out at how unhygienic the employees are when handing food. The older employee with glasses who seemed like a Manager or owner wasn't wearing gloves when handling food and was touching her mouth and licked her finger to get a plastic bag open and didn't wash her hands at all during my supposedly 20min wait for a sad steak bomb that took more than 40mins. Another employee who was using gloves had used the same gloves where she scratched her head and the same register touch pad the Manager was touching. I really liked this place for their already made pastry bites but after this unhygienic experience I can only imagine what goes behind the kitchen, I don't think I can stomach the food again. They have wear a mask signs for covid but I think they should worry more on being more hygienic handling people's food. read more

Very cute place, excellent service, I think from what we witnessed more of a quick take out dinner and lunch type spot the dessert options we went with Oreo cheesecake and tiramisu both were not fresh a bit rubbery and lacked flavor however I got a chicken and cheese croquet and it was delicious. If you are a white person who doesn't speak Portuguese they will try to rip you off by having you pay after eating and up-charging you for ridiculous stuff. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries and a Coke. The cheeseburger was listed on their menu for $7. They asked if I wanted lettuce and tomato which I said yes to. I was also told the Coke and fries came with the burger. The meal itself was mediocre. The burger tasted more like a meatloaf and less like a hamburger and the patty was not that big. When I went to pay after I finished eating, they rang me up for over $14 and said because I got lettuce and tomato it's considered a salad (?) and they also charged separately for fries and the Coke. They have really good desserts, but I probably won't be back just because of this experience. Don't want to give another cent to an unethical business. read more

This place SUCKS!!!!!!!!!! I wanted to like it. The reviews were good. I was looking forward to trying their empanadas and other non-dessert baked goods ever since moving to Tewksbury in late April. Finally, on the day before thanksgiving I was in the area getting some stuff for the holiday and came by just before noon. One would think the empanadas would be fresh?!?! These were gross. Ok let me explain-the ground beef-typically the staple empanada of any place that sells them-was dry and crusty-but not in a good way. One bite and the empanada came completely apart on me. That would be fine if it was good-but this was awful. I tried a cheese empanada, that wasn't terrible-but nothing I would go back for. Two other things I can't pronounce were so awful I didn't swallow I just spit up into the bag and then through over $15 worth of stuff out. Never tried any of the desserts-they looked decent in the case-but I won't be trying anything else. I did see a review were someone said they got food poisoning and I just chalked that up to someone maybe lying to help the competition maybe. After this small sample I feel like it's highly possible. This food passed off as "fresh" was disgusting and I don't say that about empanadas I just don't love-these were indeed GROSS!!! Side note-there were 4-5 people working and only one spoke english-I get it, you are a Brazilian restaurant, but you are in the USA - one would think a few key words like Ham, Beef, Etc would be learned pretty quickly-but not so here. Stopped in for a mid-afternoon sweet treat with a friend on a Friday. It was past lunch and the place was buzzing with diners who seemed to be regulars. A young lady behind the counter offered to help us but she spoke broken English so it was a challenge to try to understand what some of the sweet treats were. My friend and I decided to share a coconut sweet treat that looked like a big oblong macaroon and we ordered two flans that were already prepackaged in a clear to-go container. We took a seat at a high counter near the door facing the street to share the sweet treat. It was ample for both of us because it was extremely sweet. Neither of us finished our halves. It was chewy and made with condensed milk. I took the flan home for my husband and it was such a big piece that we shared it over two nights. The flan here is absolutely excellent - light and not overly sweet. It was only $8 for two flans and in the coconut treat. Very affordable based on the quality and size of the flan. Highly recommend açaí bowl here! It's the best I've tried thus far. Their abit different from other acai bowl. This one has this white powder which is milk powder. Also theyused condensed milk versus honey. I also enjoy the burgers... a little pricey but worth it since theres egg and potato stix in them which is a nice twist.They have so many sweets and Brazilian pastries. The menu unfortunately is all in Portuguese, but you can look at their pamphlet which is in English. Not all the worker can speak English so had to do alot of pointing. They give you a number once you're done ordering then when or order is ready and machine voice will say something like number 22 take your food. They have parking but it's limited, there's street parking available. Weekend is very busy. read more

Worst açaí I've ever had. Extreme amount of toppings just to use less real açaí in it, açaí texture was like plain whipped cream, probably it was just mixed with something else in order to make more with less. There were literal rotten bananas, literally black!!!! Horrible. My little sister in law got food poisoning from their coxinha, as well as another woman who was with us. My friends and I are students at UMass Lowell and were looking for a place to get desserts late at night. This was one of the only options that popped up and it's close to campus. Usual, I'm the one that picks where we go for our weekend meals but today, my husband suggested we try Romeo & Juliet, a Brazilian eatery that he discovered on Yelp. I was a bit apprehensive at first but I gave him the benefit of the doubt without having a chance to read the reviews. We arrived at what seemed like an abandoned restaurant in a "rougher" area of Lowell on a side street between the transitional housing center (homeless shelter) and the infamous Appleton Street. The small restaurant had a private parking lot on the side of the building. There were a couple of restaurant patrons eating huge rice plate meals with meat and salad. I knew for sure that we wouldn't be able to each finish one of our own. As you walk into the restaurant, the kitchen and ordering counter is on the left and there are bar stools and counters to the right. The staff speaks very limited English so it was nice to have pictorial references hanging above the counter as well as displays with the pastry and dessert offerings for the day. Everything looked soo delicious, it was hard to narrow down our selection! In the corner of the restaurant, there was also a small retail section with fresh bread, cake and chocolate. We went with three of the fried goodies (pastes) on display and also ordered a fried fish nugget rice plate. The "pastes" were $2.75 each and was still warm when took a bite into them. The pictures do not do it justice. Each fried deliciousness was massive. The pastel de carne was flaky with a beef filling. There was another option for cheese only. It was like a flat version of an empanada or Jamaican beef patty. I was surprised to see a Kibe meat roll in the display case as the dish is more prevalent in Middle Eastern cuisine. Their version of the kibbe was fried and moist. There was plenty of ground and shredded meat. It was a huge piece. My favorite was the chicken with corn "risoles frango com milho" pastry. It reminded me of a tamale with shredded chicken and corn, It was gooey and delicious! I would go back there again just for this. For lunch, there were burgers and combination plates that included rice, salad, beans, fries and a meat or fish option. There were grilled chicken, wings, marinated steak, sausage, fried fish fillet and fried fish fritters. We went with the fish fritters. The plate was massive and there was more than enough for the both of us. It was so cheap, around $8-10.00. The meal reminded me of a "casado" which we ate almost every day on our trip to Costa Rica. To wash that down, I got a Brazilian soda, the #2 most popular soda in Brazil. The flavors are unique and tough to describe as it's made from the guarana plant common in Brazil. We were so stuffed, we couldn't even finish our meal. Never-mind the endless dessert that I wanted to try. We will definitely be back to try other menu items at this place. Service was friendly and prices were great! The platter, (3) fried apps and sodas were less than $20.00. read more

Looking for dessert to end the birthday celebration, was packed and all lit up when we showed up at 10 pm. Pleasantly surprised they had off street parking, not used to finding that in Lowell. Let's get the bad out of the way: The burgers are AWFUL. Low grade meat, severely overcooked - reminded me of something they'd serve at a bad school cafeteria. My girl got through almost half of hers but I only managed two bites before giving up. Very disappointing as we specifically came for burgers based on other reviews. A bad day in the kitchen would explain the overcooking but the low quality meat seems like it would be standard. There's some novelty with the corn, peas & ham but all those extras are a bit pointless when the burger itself is inedible. Chicken or kielbasa versions might be good, but anything of the hamburger options are best avoided. Soggy French fries. Cardinal sin. In fairness we did take the food to a nearby park which wouldn't have helped but the yucca were still delicious and crispy so that's probably just standard for their fries. The meh: Most of the staff didn't seem to speak much English. Not the end of the world but surprising. One guy's English was perfect and was very helpful moving things along (took my order then re-wrote it so the woman at the register could process it). The excellent: The yucca and kielbasa sides were superb. The place had a ton of desserts, delicious looking pastries and even cakes. Unfortunately didn't sample any of those but based on the other sides I'd wager they were legit. The staff member that did speak English went out of his way to help out. Food was ready faster than promised and he even brought it to us in the parking lot (Covid). TLDR: avoid the hamburgers and fries - don't miss yucca and kielbasa. The place has been redone and is really nice and clean inside. The selection of food, empanadas/croquettes, and desserts is amazing and extensive. Their empanadas/croquettes are HUGE- I had the corn chicken and beef empanada this time and they were delicious. I got the steak plate which I ate over 3 meals. The menu is only in portuguese and only some of the wait staff spoke English, so be prepared. Prices are reasonable and this is a place people return to over and over for a reason. Let's get one thing out of the way....this a cheap eats place. Don't go in expecting a burger that tastes like its $20. The foods good, the service is great, and you don't leave feeling likes there's a huge hole in your pocket. The burgers have beef (of course), oftentimes ham, and potato stix, which makes them very salty. They are VERY big and the buns are great. I'd stay away from the stuff in the display case. Ive tried a good amount and most of it isn't worth it in my opinion. Empanadas probably the best. Go for one of the side dishes instead. Cant comment on the deserts but they look great.
