Let me start my first review by saying "I cannot recommend this school enough"!!!!!! As a first time mom, I was extremely anxious about sending my 3 yr old to pre school; she herself had some social anxiety and did not take well to new people (or children). After visiting a number of schools in the south suburbs, I felt comfortable enough after my visits to Salem to choose their program, and I'm so glad I did! My daughter has attended this school for 7 months now and LOVES the program; she has blossomed socially and truly loves her new friends and teachers. Equally as important, I am thrilled with the education she receives! In addition to learning the basics (writing her name, recognizing letters, words and numbers, music, etc.) I'm amazed at the spiritual concepts and life lessons she has learned from the teachers at this school (how many 3 year olds can talk to you about taking "personal responsibility")! The staff is so nurturing and loving to the children, all while promoting a high standard of respect and behavior with and amongst the children. My daughter who used to avoid people at all costs.....can't wait to get to school everyday and even asks why she can't spend the night! I can go to work everyday and feel totally confident that my daughter is safe, happy, and LEARNING. If you're looking for a loving environment for your child to learn and grow, check out Salem and allow them to bless your family as they have mine.

The care and attention they give to my son by far exceeds any of our expectations. The way his teachers have helped our son develop his individuality, while at the same time emphasizing self-discipline and respect towards others, has truly been a heartening experience. It's funny sometimes, that as a parent, you learn just as much from your kid as they do from you. Ms. Heather and Ms. Linda in Wee Willows are remarkable and treat the children very well. They accomplish activities with the children that I wouldnt dream of doing with ease. So why did I give this place only 3 stars? Two words: Management and Price. It is outrageously expensive. The only place more expensive in my zealous drive to find suitable daycare was the Bright Horizons at Oakbrook Terrace. The management is not very friendly. The front desk was alright to me but the minute I mentioned that I would be taking a 4 week vacation and would like to hold my son's spot; they just turned rude and nasty. They told me that I would have to cough up a whole month's tuition to save my child's spot. When i refused to budge, they told me i would have to unenroll him and have him on the waitlist. I was willing to do that and accordingly submitted a written letter a month in advance of my trip. A few days later, one of the front desk staff stopped me on my way out and asked me what i was going to do. I told her that there was no way that I would pay a whole month's tuition when my child wasnt going to be there. She said fine...we have a lot of other families on the waitlist and he wont be getting a spot. I was completely taken aback with the nastiness and rudeness. I really like the teachers very much but in this economy, I cannot pay a whole month's tuition for my son to just save his spot. I have enrolled him at another similar (and much less expensive) daycare closer to where i live. Some observations: -The part-time teachers dont care about the children. My son came home with scratch marks on his bum once (at 7 months of age). On complaining all i got was the standard - his nails have grown and he must have scratched himself (through the diaper? I dont think so) - As someone else pointed out, the front door is not monitored and the staff are not in the office most of the day - The center director is absent and in my 8 months here, i have seen her a total of 2 times - I used to go during lunch hour to nurse my con when he was younger. The older children would be playing in the parking lot which I do not think is very safe to do even with 1-2 teachers supervising them - The food quality is strictly okay. I brought a lot of homemade meals for my son to have

All in all, my son enjoys going to school daily, looks forward to learning more & I couldn't be more pleased with the staff and quality of education my son is provide. My children both began their education as toddlers at FVMS and both completed the program in sixth…read moregrade. This is not a traditional school, they allow children to make mistakes and encourage them to find the answers. They support the children in learning how to communicate with each other in addition to teaching beyond educational standards in arithmetic, writing language science and so on. My children left Montessori and felt that the public schools were not able to keep pace with what they learned through these programs. They have both expressed that their public school experience is socially disappointing because the students are often unkind and treat each other with disrespect. While my children were encouraged to help peers there public student peers are often concerned with shaming and putting peers who are different than themselves down. Fox Valley Montessori taught my children that learning is fun, that curiosity is a value. My children learned to be respectful, they learned how to manage their work and it is serving them quite well in high school as they manage their time for finals and AP classes. This is not a traditional school, it is so much more, this school teaches your child what community is. Their Montessori education has prepared them far better than I could have imagined and I cannot recommend this school enough.
