Today my 2 youngest kids and I made a point of going in. We got there some time between 12:30 and 1pm. My daughter had her heart set on getting an horchata but by this time they had already run out. She got a Pastel de Elote instead. She said it was sweeter than she expected and very filling and enjoyed it. My son ordered a breakfast burrito with eggs, beans, potatoes, and cheese. Declined the chorizo as he doesn't really eat chile yet. it was enormous and he said it was delicious after he was somehow able to devour the entire thing. It came with a cup of salsa, which he didn't use but I'm not surprised. I ordered a large menudo and even though we got it packed to go, I was surprised at how big the serving was. It also has posole in it, which is how I prefer it. It came with the little packets of oregano and crushed red peppers and also a side of diced white onions. Pretty good menudo, I did add a little bit more salt at home. It came with a torta bun (or bolillo), sliced in half and toasted. That was perfect for soaking up the juices. I definitely want to go back and the birria, the vampiros, and the birria with maruchan for sure! The grocery store is conveniently located within walking distance from my house. Not the best prices, but you will find some things here that you can't find in many other places. We picked up some of the Mexican Doritos, some of the Mexican candies, and other snacks while we were here. At the time they had a lot of the Takis on sale for 99¢. They also carry lots of kitchenware and gift items. If you smoke, they carry rolling papers, cones, and those types of items too. The staff is super friendly. Most of them are primarily Spanish speakers so we struggled a little to communicate, but it has no negative impact on my experience whatsoever. Will definitely visit more often.

This gas station and convenience store opened in the last year. The gas pump area is brightly lit, spacious, and has a large number of dispensers with the latest display technology. All pumps feature large LED displays and have eliminated physical buttons for gasoline grade selection and keypad entries. The pumps also accept Apple Pay or other NFC-based cards. Currently, payments are restricted to cards on the Visa or MasterCard networks-AMEX and Discover are not accepted. The store itself has a decent selection of snacks and beverages and there is also a franchised Fatburger restaurant on one end of the plaza. Overall, it's a clean and easy place to stop on road trips in the area. Note: if you're pulling a trailer, you'll want to enter through the street between the station and the Santa Claran casino to use the wide ramp into the station. Recommended.

From the front page of Santa Fe NEW MEXICAN, Sunday, August 4, 2019: ESPAÑOLA -- On the outside, the only Walgreens in this small Northern New Mexico city mirrors the thousands of others scattered across the nation, with the drugstore's familiar name plastered in red cursive across a hulking beige building. Located on the corner of Fairview Lane and North Riverside Drive, one of the busiest corners of the city, this typically busy Walgreens -- much like its counterparts in every state -- offers customers everything from toothpaste and greeting cards to energy drinks and same-day photos. But this particular store has a dubious distinction. For a seven-year period, it was one of the most prolific dispensers of opioid medications in New Mexico, an especially troubling fact for a city that has been in the throes of a harrowing, decadeslong battle against drug abuse and addiction that has claimed scores of lives and scarred hundreds, if not thousands, of families. The Walgreens in Española, a city with a population of about 10,000 people, dispensed the third-highest number of pain pills in the state from 2006 to the end of 2012, according to an analysis by the Washington Post, which examined a never-before-released Drug Enforcement Administration database that "tracks the path of every single pain pill sold in the United States." "These records provide an unprecedented look at the surge of legal pain pills that fueled the prescription opioid epidemic, which resulted in nearly 100,000 deaths during the seven-year time frame ending in 2012," the newspaper reported. "A county-level analysis of the cumulative data shows where the most oxycodone and hydrocodone pills were distributed across the country over that time: more than 76 billion in all." According to the newspaper, the Española Walgreens handed out more than 6.1 million pain pills during that period, behind Prime Therapeutics in Albuquerque and a Lovelace outpatient pharmacy, also in Albuquerque. The analysis tracked nearly 11.8 million pain pills back to Prime Therapeutics and just over 6.6 million to Lovelace's outpatient pharmacy. "Given the population base that Walgreens is supported by in this area, even if you include northern Santa Fe County, all of Rio Arriba County, there's no way we should be third in the state," said Lauren Reichelt, director of the Health and Human Services Department for Rio Arriba County, where Española is located. "We don't approach the population of Albuquerque or Santa Fe or Rio Rancho or Las Cruces," she added in an interview Friday. It helps so there isn't as much crowding while you're trying to go through. I have been to farmers markets in multiple states, but I have never seen one with a gift shop! That was very interesting to see. The market itself had a nice array of fresh produce, food, and artists' work. It was cool getting to see them roasting fresh chile and the band that played was soo much fun! The best booth for us was Dancing Turtle Studio. Absolutely stunning pieces of art and my guy bought me one of the hot air balloon pieces to commemorate our 1st anniversary. It honestly couldn't have been more perfect! The artist herself was incredibly sweet and wonderful to talk with. It was amazing getting to hear about her process as well!
