This small brewing company is along the Rio Grande between Velarde and Taos. If you blink while driving, you'll miss this establishment. My wife and I stopped in on Sunday, August 22, 2021. Luckily, they were open and my wife and I were greeted by a liberally tattooed female bartender with a giant smile. She looked happy to see us and the place had not another soul inside. We sampled the Highside Hefeweizen, Lady Bug IPA, and the Tarantula Trek red ale. Unilaterally, we ordered two pints of the Hefeweizen ($5 each). It had beautiful banana notes with a hint of cloves. The Highside went down refreshingly and super smooth. We enjoyed our pints on the outdoor rear patio, under a large sunbrella. This place offers Karaoke on Thursdays from 5-7 pm, Trivia on Fridays from 6-7 pm, and Live Music on Saturdays from 5-7 pm. They also have a refrigerator with four packs of their beer ($13) to go as well as growlers. Of course, we left with a cold four pack of the Highside Hefeweizen.

A last minute decision and a good decision. The beer was good. And the patio vibe was relaxing. Don't let the view from the road detour you- it's worth the stop. Great selection of wines as well.

What a treat! We literally slammed on the brakes and turned into the parking lot, not knowing we were in for the treat of our lives! We did a beer flight and a white wine flight. LOVED the beers! ALL OF THEM! Our guy who took care of us, was the best! He told us the story of Lol Llorana... the best! We will be back if ever in Santa Fe area again Update to this review: I just watched the movie The Curse of La Llarona, the bartender at Blue Heron Brewing company told the story much better and scarier!

This place is right off the road when coming from Colorado or Taos. A good pit stop if you enjoy good ambiance and nice beers. We had a flight of brews, all of the names of brews are inspired by either the thing they saw while brewing the beer, northern NM, and quirky things. I can now say I drank a tarantula and lady bug brew :) All tasty and for $10 you can get 5...We decided on a growler of Scottish Ale. The place is quite small, they do have a patio if you have kind of a bigger party. Each table has jenga on it, so while you talk you can get a bit of a challenge in. There is just ONE restroom (not the cleanliest) so you if you need to go you are going to have wait...

Nathan gave us great service! We tasted several wines, and purchased the Rio Embudo red. We had Mediterranean pizza, everything was good!

Great brewery. Good beer and just a great place to hang out. The service was good and had a great time.

My husband and I stopped here on our way from Taos to Santa Fe after seeing a sign for a brewery a couple miles before.

By the time I saw this place, I was willing to pay more. I've been here maybe 3 times, and always when I'm leaving Colorado and heading towards Santa Fe, hence they are the proverbial oasis in the desert. The store itself is fairly clean and large with a lot of coolers. Their selection of snacks is varied, they have plenty of ice and drinks, you will even find some local made spices, chiles, wines and a few knick knacks. Everything can be found cheaper somewhere else, it's just a matter of how far you want to drive. If you're looking at basic road trip snacks, so you spent an extra $1, who cares? For multiple items that could be a different story. Their single unisex restroom is kind of dirty and I always fear the day it will be out of order! Luckily that hasn't happened yet, but there is always a line. I do think they could be better about the maintenance though. The lot leaves enough room for parking and using the gas pumps without getting tangled. The gas prices were higher than we had been seeing on our trip, but not gouging higher. If they were anywhere else, the prices and lines would be 3 stars. But see above, I'm always relieved to see them when we take this route.
