The day he was supposed to pick it up, I was browsing online, and they had an ad on a site that I follow. Lo and behold, there was a beautiful birthday cake with my name on it, spelled just like I spell my name! So I jokingly asked my husband if that cake was for me......his face when he saw the picture said it all! He actually thought I had been snooping around (which I wasn't, but have in the past ) So he was supposed to go pick it up in an hour, which he did. When he got home and opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised. Even though I had already seen a picture of it, it was way more beautiful in person! It was covered in gold glitter, which I love! The smell of the cake was amazing! We have not had any yet, but if it tastes like it smells, I will be in heaven. The husband of the cake company explained to my husband that his wife gets a little excited to post the new cakes they make, so other than that little hiccup, we couldn't be more pleased with the cake. We were flexible and were able to come back later that night, after we got some errands done... and honestly, the wait was worth it. The cake was probably the best I've had in a long time. She was very thorough and went through the history of weddings, and showed me how to pose for wedding cake cutting pictures. I decided to book her despite the mishap with the tasting appointment (her daughter got married the week before). She offered me a discount for her mishap, which really made it worth it. (She's inexpensive to begin with). The design of the cake was a very vintage, lace cake design, and it couldn't have been more perfect the day of. Everyone wouldn't stop raving about the cake and that we had SO MANY flavors. Guests were also happy they got to pick which one they wanted, instead of being force fed whatever was given to them. We had a ton of leftover cake, and we were able to take it home with us. She makes extra cake to feed the kitchen and waitstaff, and doesn't charge you for it. (Makes you look like a rockstar). They stayed to cut the cake for us, and were super professional. They even brought their own boxes. They would have brought napkins, plates, forks, knives, etc. if the venue wouldn't have provided those for us. Jackie was even nice enough to lend us a cake cutting set (I forgot to buy one... OOOOPS). I would highly recommend Mary Poppins Cake Factory for a wedding cake. I can't wait for my 1 year anniversary cake. I will be using them again in the future.

When I was in the Cooke Marketplace for a rare pandemic outing, I was thrilled when I stumble upon their shop! When I think of Bake Erie, I of course think of their colorful Ohio cookies with delicious frosting. If you catch them during the day you'll see a bigger selection, but I was there near close so cookies were all that was left (but don't worry, we still bought). The inside has a clean, white feel to it that every teenager will love taking photos in. There's a few tables to sit and relax or you could take your bakery to-go while strolling the Marketplace. Like most customers, I assumed the tips placed in those jars were going directly to the employees working behind the counter and making drinks during busy rushes. Finding out that employees reportedly do not directly receive those tips feels misleading and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The staff always seem to work incredibly hard, especially during rushes, and customers tip because they want to support THEM. If tip money is being used differently, customers deserve transparency about that. For me personally, this -- combined with other experiences that made me feel unwelcome -- has changed how I view the business entirely. I'll be choosing to support other local businesses moving forward.
