Visited in September. Childhood memories as I visited our grandparents when I was little. I placed an order ahead & they were so accommodating. I ordered Co-can cookies( think shortbread flavor with mace) & their fruit bars. The smell of the bakery took me back to decades ago! My order was ready & I ordered a few other goodies to take to local friends. They even have OSU cookies...I even bought these even though i was raised a UM fan. These are huge doughnuts and even the adults cut the doughnuts in half. These are really delicious, fresh baked goods. I need to visit my Aunt in Helena more often so I can zip up the road to Ideal Bakery to get donuts! Our Uncle brought us a box our first morning there and we all gobbled them down so fast! First, I should apologize to anyone in the downtown Gibsonburg area for the amount of gleeful full volume squeals of my children as we crossed the street to the bakery before 6:30am! (We are not morning people and the promise of donuts is the only thing to motivate us out the door so early!) Our last two family visits we have popped up the road here to Gibsonburg on our way back to Oklahoma to fortify ourselves (and our five kids) for the long drive home. Not only do they have the best Jelly Balls I've ever had, but they have very yummy cream sticks in a variety of flavors! My hubby got maple, daughter got butterscotch, so good. We each got two donuts (because, come on, it's a 17 hour drive, who doesn't need to sugar up!) and not one was a "bummer." The gal helping us even put each persons donuts in an individual bag for each of us and was patient with the kids waiting to figure out what they wanted. Here's to new traditions! We'll be back Gibsonburg, and we'll try to be a little quieter next time around! read more

The Gibsonburg location in the home of the original bakery located in a century old commercial building in the heart of the business district. Their service is great, and though the town of Gibsonburg is quaint, people come from all over to have the Ideal Bakery treats. I love this place growing up in Gibsonburg this place is a town staple! I moved to Columbus back in 2007 and have yet to find donuts as good as the ideal bakery! I tried a new place today and it's close but the cream sticks are too dry! Keep up the good work... see you next time I'm in town! read more
