The last thing people need when they're struggling is people looking at them like you shouldn't be asking for help to begin with. It's humiliating and degrading so I don't recommend them based on their personel alone. Yes, this is a new Yelp account. I'll add a picture when I get a chance. I didn't have a Yelp account but chose to sign up for one. I figured I'd at least let as many people know about my experience as possible, so they stay far away from that charity and use one of the many other amazing charities that exist in Spokane that have been amazing and helped so many people this week, even if you don't have the proper documentation to prove what help you need. And those places were nice while they helped, unlike the Catholic Charities staff. And if you don't want to help or you can't help for that specific person's situation without certain documentation, maybe just say sorry we can't help you and go try this other place and have a good day, but no they all sat there staring at me and judging me and waiting for me to provide proof that I couldn't find. You don't get to sit there and look at people as though they shouldn't be asking for help to begin with and that they're not worth basic respect before they can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that they need help. I understand they're short-staffed and tired likely, but you don't get to treat people like that. You guys could learn a thing or two about manners and treating people with kindness and decency no matter the situation, rather than being standoffish and making people feel like they have to jump through a million hoops for you to believe them. I just up and left because I wasn't going to sit there and be treated like that. I honestly should have posted this sooner but I needed a few days to calm down because I don't appreciate behavior like that when we're all dealing with an insane situation. If you don't want to help or you can't, just tell them to move on. We'd rather be told to move on then humiliated. And maybe teach your personnel to treat people with respect no matter the situation and no matter whether you think they deserve help or not. And honestly, that would make me very very cautious of this particular charity in general because any charity that's allowing that behavior has much deeper issues.

I signed up for Catholic Charities housing assistance program in mid 2021. When I didn't hear back for a few months, I called and asked why that was the case. I was then told that my barriers were medium level, and that meant that I had low possibility of being pulled. Like, being homeless with a baby isn't urgent enough. They then told me that, had I been on drugs or recovery from drugs, or had CPS breathing down my neck, I'd be higher priority. I'm sorry I am not an addict! I do not think that addicts do not deserve help, but I think that we should all be considered equally. Then it would next after whoever is next. I was unable to get assistance in the several months I was signed up hoping anybody would ever call me. My next call was my exit interview this spring, and I was very upset. After 19 months of homelessness from being 3 months pregnant to my son turning 13 months old, they were of no help at all. I'm still upset about it. I'm still trying to find housing, too! I am so tired.
