The staff are all very nice and helpful, but what they have to go thru on the computer to check a customer out is a little over the top. So expect a slow checkout, generally speaking. The stuff in the store doesnt sit long. New stuff is added daily and if you think you'll come back for an item tomorrow, after you think about it, you will miss out! His story is one of deep addiction and truly hitting rock bottom - waiting to die one night in the cold on a Spokane park bench. Being turned away from some homeless outreach agencies because he didn't even have ID any more. At what may have been a last try to get help, he was directed to Truth Ministries and THEY TOOK HIM IN. Probably one of the sorriest sights they'd ever seen, nothing to his name - without ID, virtually not even his name. They gave him a chance for a hand-up and he took it with both hands. Article in the Spokesman Review 10-1-13 (still online) documents him saying "This place really did save my life". T.M., I hope you read this - he went on to marry, have a steady job, live in a decent home, and best of all (in my view) my brother seemingly came back from the dead - straight, sober, and welcomed back to the family with open arms. They are extremely picky about what they take from you when they donate. No problem taking the brand new stuff though lol. The stores are an overpriced wasteland, so I'm not sure where the stuff they pick up goes. My first visit the UGM I was impressed at the organization. I wasn't in the mood to look at clothes but there seemed to be no shortage. I wasn't mostly interested in browsing the Knick knacks. I left empty handed, in part because there was nothing calling to me that day but also I felt the prices were kind of high. In retrospect, the area has to be taken into consideration. I would imagine all thrift stores (or any other stores for that matter) are a bit more costly in the PNW vs the south where I live and am used to shopping. I will visit again and we will see what I find.
