When making adjustments to my books for 2016 he left several items that would need to be "cleaned up" the next year. Thus, making more work for himself next year if I would be a returning customer. He also made a very concerning entry for 2017 that essentially hid thousands of dollars. I am not sure what his intention here was. There are only two reason I can think of why this would have been done: 1.) Again, creating more work for himself next year, or 2.) It was an attempt to steal. To top it all off I found several errors on the tax forms, which showed that there was very little attention to detail. Luckily I noticed this before anything was filed.

I submitted Rita and paid Rita. I paid IRS via voucher. Stephens was to submit IRS and Ohio taxes electronically. I am due a refund from Ohio. Weeks went by. No refund rec'd. Called office, answering person said "Oops, we forgot to call you we need..." I had submitted that info on their secure email but sent again. Called 5 weeks later and spoke with Stephen, the accountant, he confirmed it was actually sent in (call on5/5/26). Still no refund. CAlled Ohio tax agency, they confirmed they have received nothing. Calling Stephens tax office trying to get the confirmation number IRS and Ohio were submitted...no answer. Now I am trying to call IRS to see if the 1040 was ever submitted and this is my worst nightmare. I have never encountered this level of sloppiness ie misconduct.

Initially the communication was great and I felt like I was in good hands. It is a small law firm, but they are very knowledgeable. After a few months, the communication was abysmal. I would make a call or send an email and would wait actual weeks for a reply. I get it: people are busy and I am far from their only client. I was told initially I would make a down payment and could pay the rest later. Suddenly I was told for them to continue doing work I had to pay them the rest. Okay, no big deal. However the first check was returned to me unopened. Maybe I wrote down the address wrong? I'm not sure. So my ex tried to drop off a check in person and they weren't open. I didn't realize I would have to beg them to take the money. In early December I emailed them, giving them one last chance. I sent another email and finally got a response that they were very sorry, they were in Florida on vacation and would reply when they were back in the office. It's February 4 and still no reply. That's one hell of a vacation! (Mind you, in between that email and January 1 I drove to Florida for a vacation. I was somehow still able to handle my work emails). I tried again. Still nothing, and no returned messages when I called. I genuinely hope everyone there is okay but I feel like something may have happened. They used to be so organized and responsive. As for the half payment? Likely will never see that. Next time you want to waste money, at least have fun with it.
