I arrived on time for my 11:45 AM appointment, knowing it would be with another stylist for color since mine would not be available for a haircut until closer to 1pm (my original appointment time). I had added a root touch up/color appt prior to that and was told I would be able to be squeezed in but with a different stylist since I was told mine was already fully booked. I knowingly was fine with this plan because I had the expectation my haircut would take place after blow drying it (closer to the expected 1pm time slot). After waiting over one hour over my scheduled haircut time (with a "complementary acidic hair mask" that had been in place for way over the allotted 15 mins), my stylist was finally ready to blowdry my hair and had finished with foils from the previous client. Even though she had checked in and asked me if I was in a time constraint, I did not expect to be an hour over my scheduled hair appointment. I felt like I was left ignored at the sink with my hair air drying out while waiting. Although I did enjoy my stylists calm demeanor and conversations throughout my experience, my stylist repeatedly left me to attend to her previous client that was before me. I was also disappointed at the amount of oily products placed in my hair, and it was decided to be remedied with more dry shampoo instead of the idea of starting over by washing oil products out. I would have been much happier if she had just passed me off to someone else honestly. I was surprised and even verbalized to her that even if I was scheduled for a haircut at 1pm (without my color appointment), I would have still had to wait over an hour because someone scheduled a full blonde highlights appointment before me. When I get blowouts from upscale salons, they last me close to a week. I was deeply upset that I spent a lot of money and time at this salon only to have to wash my hair the NEXT morning from the amount of oil products and leave in conditioners that were placed. Even more dry shampoo could not rectify how dirty and oily my hair looked the next day. Furthermore, after already waiting for over 1.5hrs over my scheduled haircut time, the stylist only provided a minimal trim rather than my desired cut even though I shared that my goal was to remove dead ends. When I asked for more length to be taken off, she reassured me that I needed to trial hydrating my ends with more oil based/mask conditioner products at home, that she didn't want to take a lot off since I am trying to grow it out, and to schedule another "haircut" in 8 weeks. Although she sounded reassuring, I expressed that I didn't feel comfortable paying for a haircut when barely any inches of hair were cut at this appointment (seriously no chunks to sweep on the floor). My hair looks exactly the same in length and style--with retained dried dead ends. I had to come up with my own solution that if I went home and wanted to get a real haircut, that I would be able to come back. She reassured me I would not be charged for a haircut for today and to come back if I truly wanted inches off as long as I came back within a few days of this "blowout". Already disappointed and disastrously upset at this point, I proceeded to the receptionist desk who quoted a total of nearly $350. When I disputed the amount, she dismissed my concern and insisted the charge was correct, even though I told her I only came for root color not highlights and that I was promised not to be charged a haircut today. Her response was "haircut was not charged...highlight and color is the same price $297, blowout was $53." I knew this was incorrect as I had previously reviewed prices with the front desk person when I first booked this appointment over the phone a few days prior. Astonished, flustered, and exhausted, I paid and left--knowing I will hesitate to book here again. Twenty minutes later, I received a phone call from the front desk girl admitting that I had been incorrectly charged for another customer's service. She also stated that there were no available appointments for a haircut if I wanted to come back for one in the narrow time frame my stylist suggested. She stated "she's all booked" and the earliest appointment was a day that was 9 days later. Although a refund was supposedly processed for the initial mistake, I do not plan to recommend this salon to close family or friends. The lack of professionalism, integrity, and customer service from both the stylist and the front desk management was appalling. read more

I had never gotten my hair professionally colored before and I thought I had done a good amount of research when I found Ronnie Elias salon. I came in requesting a light brown color with some strawberry blonde tone to it with blonde money pieces (see pic below). 4.5 hours later I left with burgundy hair, not at all what I asked for or wanted. I had a total of 4 stylists work on my hair but was told that the original dye mixture grabbed onto my hair WAY more than they thought. Although I understand hair textures are different, there was no excuse to have put that dark of a color mixture in my hair in the first place. I was told I did not have to pay which I appreciated (the reason for 2 stars) but I would not recommend this place. Made me never want to dye my hair again! read more

Hannah is the BEST!! I have been seeing her for the past year and she always takes such good care of me and my hair. I get my hair treated with chemicals pretty often and she knows just where to cut off all the damaged parts without making it too short. Great framing everytime too. The salon itself is clean and well maintained with someone always making sure hair is off the floor. And decorated very cute for Valentine's Day season! LOVE, love this Salon. Been going here for better part of the age of your college kids. Kristen did a beautiful job on my roots (one day) then come back for a hilite (another day). This works much better than a high-low color for me BLENDS well. So nice! She is one talented, hardworking Mom, friend and a keeper for a Stylist. Front desk Sisters Mia and Bailey are spot on for getting you an appointment and understanding your needs. This salon rates better than a five; let's go with a 10. I am always very pleased with the way Beverly colors and styles/cuts my hair. I trust her completely. She is such a lovely and kind person and I always enjoy the time spent with her. When I ask for product recommendations, she always steers me in the right direction, but she never pushes them on me. Mia shampooed my hair this visit and I couldn't be more pleased. It was such a relaxing time and she was very pleasant and thorough. The receptionist who greeted me immediately offered me coffee and water and was very gracious. Regarding the negative review from DP, I was there at the time, and he arrived 8 minutes early for his appointment with Beverly. He was greeted by Mia before deciding he couldn't wait and left. So, if he says he waited 20 minutes, taking into account that he was early, he actually only waited 12 minutes at the most past his scheduled appointment time. That is not an outrageous amount of time to wait but given that he has more important things to do with his time, it's best for all concerned that he did leave. However, he won't find a better stylist than Beverly or a salon with kinder more attentive people. On a positive note, I highly recommend this salon and especially Beverly. My appreciation to all the staff for their excellent customer service and for always making me feel so welcome. For some reason, this review shows me as living in San Francisco. I scheduled with Narce and I couldn't be happier!!! She gave me a TO-DIE FOR blonde color (exactly what i asked for in every way!), and my hair felt like a literal dream when she was finished; you would never know there had been a drop of bleach on my hair from how healthy it felt. This salon is different. Let me tell you how. For years I followed hair stylists I liked around from salon to salon and while that never really bothered me, it made me beg the question, why so many changes in venue? I'll get to that in a minute. I only ever found this place because a good friend of mine worked there. It isn't in a prominent location and can't be seen from major streets and is NOT part of a chain of businesses. I have always been a nut about letting anyone cut my hair as it is long, thick and my mother ruined me by taking me to places like Hair Pare as a kid, where I left looking either like a prepubescent boy or a 80s hair band star. My guy I relied on for years left the state and I decided to give my friend a shot. She and the salon were amazing. Elissa is my stylist of choice but I have grown to know and recognize almost all of the stylists there because they never leave! The owners treat their employees like family and the good ones stay forever. I have never in my life seen so much invested in employees at a salon in terms of training to stay up to date on new trends and products and in terms of them being happy at their place of employment. I feel like as a customer, this means you have access to the best techniques, color, tools and knowledge as it updates in the industry and that is a big deal when you are spending money and trusting people to do the service right. We as non celebs are walking in to pay someone to make us look good and as far as I am concerned, you can actually trust this entire salon! Again, I spent years following artists I trusted but seeing a place so invested and dedicated to making every one of its professionals the best that they can be is so rare. The salon itself is upscale but comfortable, full of gorgeous personnel and customers and every time I go there, they have new products that they have researched and can recommend. The salon is in my opinion, a hidden gem. You can't go wrong here but if you are wondering who to go see, they keep their stylists' profiles and strengths up to date on their social media and website for you to peruse. Additionally, they sponsor and contribute to community events and charitable causes that makes me love them that much more. Practical notes: Parking is a breeze, ATMs are plentiful in the surrounding shopping areas and their confirmation system is automated to send you appointment reminders and such which is a major convenience. I have the pleasure of being a semi insider, having a friend there but that made me more reluctant to even go there initially as that could have been a very awkward end to a friendship, should I leave unhappy. I have been back for over 10 years now and cannot recommend this company enough. They are consultative and listen to what you want and need and deliver! The staff stays, as I have mentioned before, because they feel valued, supplied with the tools they need to do their jobs and be successful and personally, that is who I want styling my hair...people who give a damn and love their jobs. Wow, I'm not sure what salon that FTR poster went to, but I couldn't have had a more different and EXCELLENT experience! Starting with my initial call to set up an appointment and pick a stylist, my needs and requirements were listened to and accommodated. My appointment was with Keri, who took at least 15 minutes before sending me to get a shampoo, to discuss my needs for my hair and what sort of cut I was looking for - I've never had a more in-depth and conscientious stylist. My haircut was EXACTLY what I was looking for and I couldn't have been happier. I didn't feel like the salon was overcrowded, I prefer to be in a place that is bustling with good energy. If I wanted peace and quiet, I'd go to my grandmother's salon...or a library. And, I definitely don't agree with it being overpriced, either. For the quality of cut and service you receive pricing was on par with my expectations. To top it off, after your first appointment you get a little swag bag and just by filling out a feedback form an opportunity to get a percentage off your next hair cut! I'm generally one that bounces around different salons always looking for something better or more affordable, etc. But, when I finish up this review, I am picking up the phone and scheduling my next appointment! read more

I am notoriously a nervous Nancy when getting my hair cut and styled - I just have had too many times where I didn't like the outcome. I was really happy with my haircut at Ronnie Elias Salon however. I had Ashleigh who did a great job with my hair, making sure that I liked how it looked throughout the cutting process and also letting me know what worked best to add volume to my thin hair. I am so picky with salons, but I absolutely love this one! All the employees are so kind, everytime I've gone in, they've given me genuine compliments about my hair, things I'm wearing etc. With the pandemic, they've done a really good job spacing out the salon and making sure that everyone wears a mask, and wiping down surfaces regularly- I've always felt very safe when I'm in there. I've never posted a Yelp review before, but I have to share my incredible experience with Elissa this morning. I got a truly terrible (too short, uneven) haircut at Hair Cuttery 2 weeks ago, and a friend recommended Ronnie Elias Salon. It's expensive for me and a long drive, but I needed an expert to fix the damage so decided to splurge. Elissa talked with me, assessed my hair, and discussed my desired look. Her advice was to let my hair grow out for 6-8 weeks and come back then for a full wash, cut and style. And then she fixed the bad cut - at no charge!! She did a full dry cut and showed me how to style my hair in the interim. I am so grateful for her expertise and kindness. I'm looking forward to seeing her again in a month or two! I just had my second perm at this salon. I have been having perms since I was 18 years old. (Have fine hair). I have had too many perms from hell from the VERY top salons in the DC area. These last two perms were awesome. Bev was the stylist who did the perms. She is so detailed and attentive to all aspects of the perm. I had no idea hat perms could be like this. I sent this email to the management of the salon in May and never heard back. Instead of responding to my email, they ignored it. I thought I'd share my experience on Yelp. My appointment in May was supposed to be with Kristen but after waiting for 30 minutes for her, I was dumped on Beverly. I would also add that even though I was waiting so long no one offered me something to drink even though everyone around me was offered a beverage. Rude. I had called earlier in the week to explain what I was looking for when the receptionist had suggested Kristen. I didn't know anything about Beverly and felt uncomfortable changing stylists last minute, but I went with it. I explained to Beverly that I've had a lot of bad haircuts recently and that I am looking for a "cool" haircut since I'm in a creative field. I showed her a photo of what I had in mind and that was that. The haircut itself is fine, same old boring cut I was trying to get away from, but not a bad cut itself (although it looked nothing like the photo). My final frustration came when I asked for styling tips for a wedding I'm going to next weekend and she told me to experiment on my own instead of helping me or showing me anything. Then I was rushed out because her actual appointment arrived. To summarize my feelings, I felt the staff was inhospitable to me, I felt overlooked and didn't leave with a satisfactory hair style. And for $80 that is unacceptable. I'll be looking elsewhere for my next attempt at finding a salon, and a damn haircut I can be excited about. I've been going to Nikki at the Ronnie Elias Salon for 4 or 5 years now. She's super friendly and she sure knows what she's doing. I always tell her the general idea of what I want, then let her do her thing because I trust her 100%. She did my prom up-do a few years ago and I also let her chop all my hair off last winter when I decided to donate it. I was TERRIFIED because I have never had short hair in my life, but it turned out great and I'm so happy I did it. All the other people there are super nice too. STAY AWAY! The people are really friendly and the stylist, mine was Shawn, seemed to listen. He also assured me that he could accomplish what I was wanting...which was an easy cut- However, the cut was awful! My cut should have been an easy one- short- wash and go- no bob --kinda flippy - but i have no idea what he did- the cut is uneven, and nothing goes together- "a mess" is what it has been described as- even when i specifically said NO blow drying- that is what he did- Thnakfuly it's just a hair cut and i will go back to me more expensive but so worth it salon! he was NOT a 70.00 hair cut...in fact, the old college days of hair cuttery gave me better results than this! ALso, it took forever to get my hair washed. I was walked over to the Hairwashing station and told "one of the girls" would be over in a minute. AFter being passed by several people a VERY NICE young girl, Carloline, who was the BEST part of the Salon stopped b/c she relaized that Iwasn't being helped..so she did a quick (but thorough) wash since no one else seemed available. She even told Shawn- "I was doing a color but she was just sitting there with no one helping her so I jumped in...." Shawn's reply was...oh...was no one taking care of you? Those Bad Girls. Ronnie Elias is hands down the best salon in NOVA! Elissa has been doing my hair for over 12 years and I wouldn't go to anyone else for cut and color (she's the queen of blondes!). Each and every time I get my hair done (which is every 6 weeks), I get tons of compliments and Elissa nails it time and time again. Ive also gotten updos and blowouts from other stylists there and have always had a good experience. I've even had other hair stylists from other salons compliment me (or her) on how amazing her work is. The staff is very friendly and there's a feeling of family when you walk in. I wasnt impressed. I first got there, people around me were all drinking water or soda, but my lady did not offer anything till I was almost done. I got color so I was there for awhile, actually it was 3 hrs. I couldnt believe how slow she was. In the middle of her applying color and highlights, her other appointment came in, and immediately stopped applying color and went to her. My stylist then told one of the four high school students that work there ( they clean up hair, wash hair, help out) to finish my color. I was outragged...im not spending over 100$ for a young hs student without hair degree to "finish" my hair. It was dissapointing. She then came back little late bc she then had to put something in my hair to tone it bc it got to red or somerhing. This place to become successful needs to keep one stylist per appointment, not have them jump from one customer to another...and leave coloring to specialists. I've been a client of Elissa for about 4 and 1/2 years now, and I absolutely love her ability to take whatever idea I bring her and make it happen. I have been all sorts of blondes, red and brunette over the years and varying lengths from extremely short pixie to past shoulder length. She never pressures me to purchase product (though I do, because it's there and I'm there and it's the stuff she uses to make my hair do things, and she's the expert here), but always offers and genuinely cares on a personal level as well. NARCE, yes NARCE, saved my hair from a horrible botched hair job. I had my hair done at 37 Fashion in Vienna 2 days earlier (BEWARE OF ELAINE, SHE HAS NO SKILL) and the Elaine totally messed my hair up. I just needed my hair refreshed with the lowlights and highlights. Well she painted my roots with the lowlight color and then proceeded to highlight over that. Well it all bled together and was blotchy and brassy. That was the first time I left a salon crying. Anyways, Narce at Ronnie Elias Salon fixed me right up!! She made me feel comfortable and listened to what I wanted. The atmosphere in the place was great too. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. They gave me water and were sympathetic to my hair situation. Missy, the receptionist, was right about Narce when she said she works magic. My hair is almost back to normal. If you get your hair colored, you know how bad a color correction can be and how bad it can ruin your hair. Well Narce did a great job and spent her time making sure the color lifted correctly. She also toned & conditioned my hair. Thank God I found her. My stress about my ugly hair job has been lifted. I am newer to the area and have been to 3 salons already. I finally found a hair stylist in the area that I trust and will be back to her. She is great with color!!!! This salon is extremely busy, there are usually 10-15 people lined up with color processing, which makes you feel like a little fish in a big pond. The first time i went Margaret was my stylist. I wanted a darker color on top and a lighter color underneath. FOUR HOURS later I was done. While Margaret does pay attention to detail and its clear that she is a perfectionist, she is super slow and left color on my face and neck. The next appointment i had was with Meredith. Not only did she make me feel like she had better things to do, but she painted my entire neck red and black all over my forehead. It took days to come off, and i even used nail polish remover to speed up the process. For a 'high end' salon that is totally unacceptable. I would be embarrassed if I was a stylist and left color all over my clients. Lastly the salon does not accept a tip added on to a credit/debit card. You MUST have cash or a check. Why in the world wouldn't you update your system to allow for the norm? The salon is run to crank clients through not to create long lasting clients or relationships with people who are paying a small fortune to get their hair done.
