Before anyone accuses me of sour grapes for not getting out: feel free to look through my history and see that I have left 5 star reviews for rooms I didn't escape, and I have left 3 star reviews for rooms that I did. For me, it is all about the quality of the time spent during the 60 minutes that you pay for an escape room moreso than the actual act of getting out.  My husband and I visited Room Escape Ottawa this past Saturday and tried their Deliverance room. We have done well over 50 rooms between us, so we consider ourselves Escape Room Enthusiasts. We picked this facility due to the overwhelming number of positive reviews on both our Facebook Group and Google reviews.  The Good:  All bookings are private bookings. No worries about having to be thrown in with random people at the last moment. The room itself was also multiple levels, which was something different.  We had actually booked a second room but were definitely not coming back for the other because of our experience with the first. Even though it was inside the 24 hour cancelation rule that should have meant no refund (which we were totally willing to accept), they very kindly took pity on us and refunded our fee.  The Bad:  The room had an abundance of the same type of locks. This is one of my pet peeves in escape rooms because it forces you to try the same combo multiple places - wastes time on the experience versus filling with valid content.  The physical facility shares the space with an archery activity center. It was bedlam - kids running around unmonitored, screaming groups of people playing some kind of tag. The layout makes no sense because they cram you into a waiting area and then make you move so they can take photos.  Walkie talkies for clues. Every time we asked for a hint, they told us what we had already tried/figured out because they clearly couldn't really see or hear what we were doing.  The Ugly: Oh my holy mother of goodness I have never heard music so loud in an escape room in my life. In a game designed for team building and communication, I couldn't even hear my husband standing right next to him. Insanity.  The GM came in the room at one point. I hate nothing more than someone interrupting our experience. If you can't effectively give clues through your hint system, either you need better communication skills, a better hint delivery system, or better puzzles. In no way should it ever be required for a human to insert themselves in my game.  Cheesiest theme ever. Had I known what I was booking, I would not have.  That being said, if I lived in the area, had young kids and a few hours to kill, I wouldn't hesitate to go to this facility. As a solo couple of escape room enthusiasts, I wish I had known what I was getting myself into and gone to a different facility. Hopefully this review will save someone else in the same boat from making the same mistake! read more

This was my first time ever experiencing for myself the big hype around escape rooms ! This place is awesome! 5 stars off bat as I will explain! My sister was the first to mention to me about this sort of activity as her and her coworkers had done it! For those who aren't familiar it's a room or several in this case where you are put in a scenario and locked in the room... Your challenge is the escape the room by finding clues that help you get out or in the case of serial killer charade which my friends and I did ... Many different rooms! I don't want to talk too much about the clues or any of that as you will have to experience it for yourselves ! However I will say the electrical work is on point ! Also loved the rooms and clues! Despite my friend group being a little upset that us 5 friends got put in the challenge with two strangers it was a great experience ! I give 5 stars because the stranger thing didn't bug me at all I liked it as I love meeting new people :) Try this out ! You know you want to! Super sweet and imersive. Girlfriend and I did undermined found it to be challenging but also had a hard time focusing because the rooms were so cool! Special effects and other surprises make you feel like your in the story. Highly recommend this place! I came here with friends and family during my visit to Ottawa. Being the only person who had done an escape room I had big shoes to fill. Lucky for us, Room Escape is ahead of the game when it comes to advanced puzzles and very high tech contraptions. I can't say too much without ruining the fun! The room itself was set up very well, with a series of rooms that led to the final escape made sure you were going in the right direction. The service at Room Escape was enthusiastic and welcoming. They were dramatic and really into the storyline. Kind of cheesy, but I kinda like that! Lol... My only reason for 4 stars was that there were too many people for the room. While I don't mind being paired with another group, we felt like it was crowded. We were a group of 5 paired with a group of 3. The room we did was the Serial Killer room, I forget its actual title. We had a private booking just before lunch on a weekday, and we're surprised to find it was in the same building as archery tag. You can order drinks, a few snacks, and store your values in a locker. Quite a large establishment considering. We tried the serial killer charade room. We didn't get out but we did have a ton of fun! Can't write too much about it without giving anything away, but it was definitely interesting and challenging. When I heard that it had a lot of technology, I didn't know what to think, but I will say it is definitely more technologically advanced than some of the other rooms I've tried elsewhere. I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone who wants to try something new. They also take two photos of your group before you go in - a happy one and a sad one, for when you escape or fail to escape. We took my 13yr old son here for his birthday. I'd never escaped before but I enjoyed myself and he had a blast. My only question is why our victory photo wasn't posted on the fbook page with everyone else's. I can only guess we weren't photogenic enough. Pretty bad when you have to email the company to see your photo. :( read more

My friends and I have done 3 rooms within the last two weeks because they are so much fun. We love escape rooms so when we discovered this company we were blown away by the creativity of each room. I did the Serial Killer room for my first escape room. I have done 5 so far and it is still one of my favorite ones. Very immersive, can't recommend it enough. The staff and facility are top notch at Room Escape. I have also done Boom Room which was quite entertaining as well. I will say I did prefer the Serial Killer room slightly more because I found the puzzles a little more interesting and the decor/props of the physical rooms were better in comparison. For our summer vacation this year (July/Aug), our family of three decided on a stay-cation and did a bunch of Escape Rooms in Ottawa. We completed 15 "escapes" in 10 days, and had a blast! While discussing our vacation with family/friends, I was asked to rank the rooms in terms of which were our favourites; this is difficulty as each "room" had different elements that were cool or unique. I'll review them chronologically and try my best not to give too many details that will spoil the fun of the puzzles/room. (The overall ranking was based on the gestalt of atmosphere, puzzle quality and fun factor. The lower the number the more we liked it. eg. Rank 1 out of 15, means this was our favourite. Rank 15 of 15, means this was our least favourite.) Room Escape Ottawa - Stranded - (5 stars) This was the thirteenth escape room we did on vacation. The room was spacious. The decor was very good. It definitely felt like a different lush planet! The lighting was slightly dim, but it didn't feel dark due to the decor. (The only dark-ish part was the transition between the first level & second level of the room.) The puzzles were amazing and varied! Very hands-on! I wish I could do them all (vs sharing them with my team mates). This room would be suitable for a family with kids or a large group of people due to sheer number of puzzles. Our team of three completed this room with about 4 min left. Rank 5 out of 15. P.S. The unlimited hints & the way they are delivered is a refreshing change! Room Escape Ottawa - Boom Room (5 stars) This was the fourteenth escape room we did on vacation. The room was spacious. The lighting was sufficient. The decor well suited for the theme. The puzzles were well constructed. This room would be suitable for families with kids. Our team of three completed this room with about 8.5 minutes to spare. Rank 10 out of 15. Room Escape Ottawa - Deliverance (5 stars) This was the fifteenth and final escape room we did on vacation this year. This room was spacious. The decor was spectacular and very realistic. The lighting was good. There were some very unique puzzles and elements in this "room". The puzzles were varied and would be suitable for families with kids (as young as 7 or 8). It was lots of fun, and it kept everyone busy! Definitely one of our favourite escape rooms! Our team of three completed this room with about 5 mins left. Rank 2 out of 15. read more
