Used roomforty for our wedding. We were very happy with the quality and taste of the food. We were told that usually it's only downhill from the tasting, but we felt our tasting was representative of their quality. They were also able to preserve the quality even though we got a little behind schedule at our wedding (due to speeches running long, etc.), so they had to hold the food for a while, and it still came out great. I hired Room Forty (catering) + Pharmacie (bar services) for my wedding on 12-10-22 at The Harper and cannot recommend them enough! Room Forty is the venue's exclusive in-house caterer and Pharmacie is the venue's exclusive in-house beverage program. Room Forty uses fresh, seasonal and organic ingredients, and Pharmacie makes all of their syrups, etc. for their *excellent* craft cocktails from scratch. One thing I really love about Room Forty and Pharmacie is that they offer seasonal menus (yes, even the cocktails), and honestly, all of their dishes and cocktails are so creative and delicious; you really can't go wrong with any of them. We had about 130 guests at our wedding. Room Forty and Pharmacie offer a ton of different packages, but they are flexible so if you are like us and want to make changes to your package throughout the wedding planning process, it's very easy to do so. We chose to do the full open bar with 3 bars due to guest count, and a full plated dinner with a salad course to start, choice of 3 entrees, one of which was a silent veg entree that we got to pick, and tray-passed apps. We also added a welcome cocktail (the bees knees) for our guests upon arrival and had 2 signature cocktails (the old fashioned and my personal favorite, the blackberry margarita), a sparkling toast and tableside wine service, all of which I highly recommend. We selected the following menu: (1) Tray passed appetizers: chicken empanadas, saffron arancini and old bay crab cake lollipops (2) First course: little gems salad with pancetta vinaigrette and pecorino (3) Entrees: scottish salmon with summer corn, spanish chorizo, serrano chili and cauliflower puree; filet mignon with caramelized carrots, celery root and hazelnut gremolata; and the silent veg option/my absolute favorite dish of the evening: burrata cheese + corn ravioli with truffle beurre fondue, calabrian chili oil and basil Room Forty and Pharmacie truly did NOT disappoint! The food was exceptional and the drinks were incredible; everything went seamless throughout the entire day. The servers and bartenders were all amazing and just all-around wonderful people to work with. We were absolutely blown away with everyone's attention to detail, execution and service. The bars looked amazing, the bartenders and servers were both hip, friendly and knowledgeable, and our guests were beyond impressed. Room Forty was extremely easy to work with and they were very flexible on custom changes. We attended a group tasting at our venue a few months before our wedding where we got to taste different appetizers, entrees, desserts, late night snacks and cocktails. We also got to mingle with the staff, which was so much fun! The staff was exceptional and everyone was so friendly. On the day-of our wedding, everything was done very efficiently; there was never a long line to get drinks and every single staff member performed their jobs with a positive attitude and a smile, which really brought the best energy possible to our wedding day! Overall, we loved Room Forty and Pharmacie; they provide a wonderful service and their staff members are professional, dressed appropriately, and leave a wonderful lasting impression on guests. We had an incredible experience at our wedding tasting at the Fig House. The first course was served on a white countertop turned in to an artistic masterpiece. The chef used colorful ingredients to create what looked like a modern painting that you just so happened to find pork belly soft buns inside. Then course after course started coming. They were all so delicious it was tough to decide exactly what we wanted to be served on our big day. The hospitality and every cocktail curated by Talmadge were incredible! The desserts were also out of this world - the deconstructed passion fruit tart was insane. Terrible terrible terrible catering. I was at a gala a week ago and it was the only negative of the night. I have been going to this gala every year and the food is a highlight until this year. Not having enough food for everyone by having family style. What in the world, who does that? Dessert was small and minimal, coffee containers broken. I saw people getting up to get wine, where were the servers?!? We ended up at a roomforty-exclusive venue after our initial venue couldn't host our wedding due to covid. We loved our original caterer, and were sad to make the change, but we did hear great things from everyone we talked to about roomforty. Though the did end up being twice the price of our original caterer. They did not disappoint! The menu was really creative and fun. The food was super good. They even made some special exceptions for my groom who hates sauces and made his entire dinner without them! Even without the incredible sauces, his plate was still super tasty. They even provided us with a snack tray and drinks right after the ceremony so we could get some food in our bellies. The wait staff was on it the whole night. For my sisters wedding they changed her vegetarian dish without her knowing. I unknowingly broke the news to her the day after the wedding when I asked her. To start off, the tasting they set up for us was top notch. They served us what seemed like 20 courses of food including drink pairings. The food was wonderful and they put a lot thought into the presentation of each dish which is very impressive. The day of the wedding, my guests were raving and I mean RAVING about how good the food was. One of my guests said, the beef dish was the best he ever had. Perusing our wedding # the day after, I realized the only thing that rivaled the Instagram photos of our 'Thunder Road' first dance was the Room Forty food. "Best wedding food ever" is all my husband and I kept hearing after Room Forty catered our reception. Scallops with grilled watermelon, lamb ossobuco, a homemade pasta mid-course... I mean seriously, Room Forty is as good as it gets. In our initial discussions with Room Forty's owner, we requested a gourmet yet casual feel to the food -- like LA's Little Doms or Pizzeria Mozza. The chef's impeccable interpretation was rich Italian dishes, with a fresh California touch. Totally filling, but not so heavy that people couldn't get up and dance. The only complaint we heard was that the hors d'oeuvres were so good and voluminous, guests didn't have enough room for dinner. After a three-course seated dinner, we skipped cake so we could have more time to party. Room Forty covered us with impeccable passed desserts. We also left them to set up a bar for us. They called in Pharmacie, which did an amazing job. (Ask for the Bees Pajamas. Trust me.) Further, having worked in the service industry, my husband and I were totally grateful that Room Forty knows how to staff a party. They don't skimp on wait staff to save money. The service was entirely professional. I don't think Jonathan Gold does catering reviews yet. My advice is book 'em before he starts. After that, this LA secret won't have an open date for years. read more

We went to a pop-up event on Saturday night and we were very excited because it was our first ever pop-up. It was an interesting evening, it was in a distillery and in the middle of a heat wave and there was no AC... so it was uncomfortably hot. NOT anyones fault so we all deablt with it - just an unfortunate circumstance... however the heat made the cocktails go down WELL!!! LOL The courses were all paired with cocktails and the cocktails were AMAZING. The food was hit and miss for us. The dessert was amazing!!! But the fish had a chai tea foam on it we did not care for... but the whole experience was interesting and overall we enjoyed ourselves and would like to go to another one in a cooler venue! read more

We had our wedding at the Fig House and used RoomForty to do our catering. They were amazing! I don't know how many times they edited our invoice because we kept changing out minds. We also edited the guest count up to the last week because people (surprise surprise) cancelled last minute.RoomForty was very gracious and understanding. They also really took our suggestions into account when deciding how to prepare the food. For example: I wanted "El Pollo" like chicken and "Costco like" pizza. They did it- and 100x better then we expected. A direct quote from a wedding guest at the wedding "i have been to a lot of weddings and this is by far the best wedding food we could have wanted". I first encountered Roomforty several years ago as a wedding photographer, working for mutual clients. Having seen plenty weddings over the years, I was blown away by their unique and thoughtful presentation, their philosophy about what a wedding meal should be, and of course the amazing courses themselves- which the owner Steve insisted I partook of even though I was just a vendor. It's safe to say that I had my catering team selected long before I even knew who my husband would be. :) Fast forward to my own experience as a bride this past month, and we could not have been happier! My husband and I designed our entire wedding to center around a beautiful dinner party- so we put our full trust in Max and his team to deliver a memorable evening. We gave Roomforty several challenges to work with; from planning our wedding remotely to the actual venue- a private home with spacial and appliance limitations- and they handled everything with grace, patience and professionalism. Max guided us through our menu selection, which blew our guests away, and their service day-of was just as exquisite as I remembered. (We also had Roomforty bartend for us, and people are still raving about how delicious the drinks were!) The whole event from start to finish was a beautiful performance and a delightful experience for all. Their staff is the best of the best; they seem to have hand-selected each one to ensure that every guests experience is 100%. What they accomplish as a team is an art that I haven't witnessed from any other caterer in almost 10 years of being in the wedding industry. We attended the Room Forty OC Valentine's winemaker pop-up dinner this year. We loved it! It was undoubtedly one of our favorite ways to celebrate valentine's day - enjoying a delicious multi course meal, paired with delightful wines, in a beautiful setting under the stars. Room Forty's execution of the meal was fantastic. Every course was inventive and well balanced. The servers were attentive and kept our wine glasses full. We had the privilege of working with Roomforty for a wedding last weekend at the Fig House. We were completely blown away by this catering company. Not only was the food amazing but the unique presentation of it all was unbelievable. They were extremely organized and ran the night flawlessly. It made our job as the wedding planners very easy! Worked here for about 18 months and can't say enough about the business. I have worked many places and it's hard to find a passionate core group of employees who love what they do. Chef Libry is a great leader and chef, he only strives for perfection. I know it sounds like I am advertising this company but I am only telling the truth. I'm not sure where to begin. First, I'll say that this is the first yelp review I've ever felt compelled to write. I've been to some pretty astounding restaurants in the foodie-capitals but have always felt that the experience was exactly what was expected and therefore a public review was unnecessary. Room Forty, though, is a hidden gem that deserves some MAJOR public recognition. So here goes. Room Forty bills itself as a catering company, though is much more distinct (and distinguished) than that label infers. I was recently married outside of the LA area and hired Room Forty to "cater" the wedding. Not only were they able to provide an astounding 5-course meal and matched wine pairings for my guests but they also made the process of doing so completely painless. Steve Fortunato, the founder of the group, conducted a site visit (three hours away from LA) and helped us formulate our vision with incredible patience and enthusiasm. Margaret Slaton, general manager, managed all of the logistics (hiring waitstaff, renting heat lamps and linens, contacting winemakers, working with sake vendors from across the country, etc) with ease and charm. And Libry Darusman, executive chef, created plates inspired by our vision with a touch of his own personal flare that even our gluten-free guests were able to appreciate. I personally ate every single bite of every single course (which I believe is rare for brides, but there was no way that I was going to miss out on Libry's sweet corn ravioli). The dinner was elegantly served (as evidenced by a picture we have of all of the guests taking pictures of the dishes) and the food was better than anything I've ever experienced at an event (large or small). Seriously brides, they're spectacular and make the whole process a lot of fun. In addition to catering, Room Forty offers quarterly pop-up dinners around the city to "inspire the team, experiment with flavors, and keep everyone on their toes" (according to Steve, the founder). I've been to two of these dinners. One started with cocktails and appetizers on the rooftop of one of the tallest buildings of the city and overlooking the La Brea Tar Pits. The other included a smoking cocktail (literally) as part of their attempt to pair cocktails AND wine to each course. Both meals were over the top delicious and both venues were stunning. I'm hesitant to tell all of you just how amazing these are, as each event obviously has limited capacity and I don't want to miss out on the opportunity to go, but I recommend you check them out if you can. They're seriously astoundingly creative, delicious, and a great deal of fun. read more

Attended a high end wedding this summer and as most people know there are only a few things that are very important at a wedding, the Food, the entertainment, and the Pictures, all of which combined lend themselves to an unforgettable event. In This Case the Food was the weakest link and left most of the 300 Plus guest unable to eat the food that was served, you would think that if most of the meals were not being eaten and sent back that a RED flag would be raised. The Staff was at best a second team this night and had no idea how to serve guests they all must have been hired from a temp service. the Venue was spectacular, the band was Great, The Food and Caterer were over their head and they Under Delivered I would Not recommend them for any event there are too many options available out there to choose from. read more

Beyond, beyond. That is the only words I can think of to describe RoomForty. My friends and family are still talking about how incredible the food was at our wedding and it was in October! They said the best wedding food they have ever had and not even just good for weddings but good in general. This is chic, hip incredible restaurant food not your usual gross catering. My husband and I are SO lucky we were able to work with them. My friends said they were actually stalking the mini corn dog server and people were raving about the short rib entree. Elegant and perfect. The service was impeccable. I'm sorry to say that I cannot recommend this caterer. We helped select Room Forty for our son's wedding--over 300 guests--based on the food tasting and presentation. Both were far from indicative of the actual result. We are very disappointed, even angry. In addition to the tasting, one of the key factors was that we were assured all their servers were highly professional. Like much of the food, this was deficient as well. The overall conclusion from ourselves and our guests' was that RoomForty didn't seem prepared to handle the size of the venue or the number of guests. The chicken, which was ordered by more than 140 guests, was described as "inedible" by almost everyone I polled--more than forty people. Many other guests told me they saw full dinners of chicken being cleared away nearly untouched. As far as I know, no one from Room Forty inquired why all these dinners were being trashed. In addition there were many tables who told me they were repeatedly not served, missing dessert and the later snack service of sliders. The most damning information from several guests was that they had informed the staff that the chicken was inedible. NOTHING WAS DONE. THERE WAS NO FOLLOW-UP. They were not offered an alternative, not even a snack. No one came to inquire about the problem. When I complained to the owner after the wedding, he professed that he hadn't heard anything about the bad chicken and said he would get back to me. I left several messages after that and still didn't hear from him for about a week. We then sent an aggressive email, and he finally called. We told him it was not about the money, though he never offered a partial refund. Scores of guests will attest to Room Forty's inedible chicken and deficient service. At least two tables of our guests left early to dine elsewhere, and I missed much of the dancing while trying to find food for our guests. This was one of the most important events of our lives, and I missed part of it because of this caterer. read more

Their event space on Figueroa is gorgeous without an attitude - check out the phenomenal stained glass work- which makes it the perfect place for a party. Roomforty was a big hit at our event! Everyone in attendance could not get over how good the food and service was. We had Roomforty serve both Lunch and Dinner for our group. I had to stop eating so much at lunch to make sure I had room for dinner! Roomforty deserves a bit more than just a quick review...so bare with me: Planning: Working with Allison behind the scenes in preparation for the event was quite a pleasure. She was professional, knowledgeable and extremely accommodating. We had a last minute event to plan and Allison did everything we asked for...and more! She help coordinate our dinner plans, helped to get our rentals in order and made sure everything was running smoothly. We had some issues with our venue and Allison was there to help us in every way possible. She went above and beyond and I can't thank her enough. The Roomforty Chefs and Staff: It is so refreshing to have amazing chefs and staff. The kitchen team came well prepared and timed it all perfectly. The event staff was friendly and helpful as well as extremely professional. Everyone was extremely knowledgeable of the food and what they were presenting. The Event Captain was doing everything in her power to make sure everything ran smoothly. She came up with contingency plans in case of rain and worked with me to ensure a beautiful event with no issues. Every element of this team made the experience that much more enjoyable. The Drinks: We had a nice selection of alcohol along with a couple signature cocktails. The ladies loved the Strawberry Mule and the guys leaned more towards The Fort. Needless to say, our bartender knew how to craft up great drinks and make everyone happy. We kept our bartender busy but he had no problem keeping up! The wine selection that we had with our dinner was simple and delicious. It was perfect for dinner! The Food: We cannot stop raving about the food and the dining experience with Roomforty. My lunch highlight was the Confit Chicken Salad Sandwich. Although there were many others that also liked the Capressa Prosciutto sandwich, I guess you can't go wrong either way. Adding the Orzo Pasta Salad to the menu as a side was a beautiful touch. That was a highlight everyone agreed on. Dinner was flavorful, well portioned and was presented beautifully! Timing of the meal was perfect! No one was ever waiting long nor did we ever feel rushed through the dinner. The first course was smoked tomato bisque, I'd have to say, this was a nice way to start our meal. The warmth of the soup set the tone as it started to rain outside. It really got everyone's taste buds going! The mid course was my favorite dish and it comprised of a crispy pork belly with potato hash, winter squash and organic egg! I licked my plate clean! I don't think there was a single plate left after that course. The main course was either a "chicken n biscuits" or "meat + potatoes." As much flavor as there was in the mid course, the main course didn't disappoint! There were a couple people that also had a fish dish but no matter which dish you had, all ended with the same result...satisfaction! If that wasn't enough, we finished off that beautifully articulated meal with the "roomforty campfire" which was their take on a s'more. I wish I could give some sort of criticism here but they delivered and my hats off to Roomforty! They really worked hard to deliver a beautiful and unique dining experience! My experience over the years has been with the Pop Up dinners. I laughed when reading another reviewer's recollection of the extremely warm event at the downtown distillery. Other than the fact that the elegantly dressed attendees were all "glowing" as if we were in Savannah in the summer, it was an amazing evening. While Fig House is glorious as a location, my favorite of the Pop Ups was at the Last Bookstore in downtown LA. Such a unique venue to enjoy wonderfully imaginative food. I appreciate that they are careful regarding allergies, etc. even when serving 70 guests at a time. I have had many excellent experiences and look forward to notification of the next Pop Up. I attended a pop up event last year in Anaheim. The venue was incredible. It was an old building that used to be a meat packing building. I liked how they brought in family style picnic tables and seated us with people we knew but also with people that we did not know. It's a great concept. There was a wine maker there, and each one of the courses was paired with a different wine. We ended up purchasing a case of assorted wines. The food that was served was very interesting, it was something I would not necessarily order at a restaurant. The great thing about their set up is that you have the opportunity to meet new people and share a beautifully prepared dinner. My girlfriend has some pretty tricky diet issues and they accommodated her immediately even though they had no warning AND her replacement dishes were amazing ! thats not a common result for us. Also The Fig House is like a hidden oasis in LA! Totally unassuming from the outside. I attended a fabulous wedding in Malibu in September 2014 that was totally marred by the caterer, Room Forty. One of the chefs must have dropped a large bag of salt in one of the entrees. It was absolutely inedible. All of the tables near us were abuzz. Everyone was embarrassed for the hostesses. Such a lavish and truly memorable affair, only to be ruined by the food. It still amazes me that Room Forty had the temerity or stupidity to serve that food. I just don't understand why they did not taste the food beforehand, throw it out when they discovered the horrible error, and redo the entrée or find a substitute somehow. They had to know how badly it would reflect on their company. When the waiters saw that no one was eating that entrée, they did nothing! We had our wedding at The Fig House in February and Roomforty catered our big day. Let me say first that the Roomforty tasting was one of our favorite parts of the whole wedding process. They made us about 10 custom drinks to choose from and they were all delicious. It was hard to choose. Then we had an array of food to try with helpful explanations from our guide Allison. The food at the wedding was hands down some of the best I have had at a big event. Our guests were going back for seconds and thirds. And they made a buffet work for a group of 175.
