They pride themselves on not serving the regular run of the mill brews but the hard to find stuff and the beers you've never heard of. This place is a regular's haven. A few comments. 1) It has beer selection, draft and bottle, and alcohol content per beer is displayed on menu for those especially rough days. 2) It ain't chain food. It's not necessarily the hardcore foodies foodfest but it is most definitely not Chili's. No cheap, deep fried genres here. Just some flavor and originality at a price still cheaper than the Outbackiest of Outbacks. 3) To reiterate: it is a regular's haven. From reading the reviews, the folks with service problems arrive at peak hours. Sure, it may be an area in need of improvement but I've never been to a crowded bar in any city and received my beer in a wink. The simple solution: return at a less busy hour. This establishment has a very fine selection of beers and ales; they have specials every day that provide excellent value. The sandwiches are very good. The service is very good. I brought my wife and daughter for dinner. Nice place. I had the Sinatra fettuccine and added a chicken breast. Delicious and just the right size. Wife ordered the turkey sandwich and said that it was delicious. Everything was wonderful. Good prices and great selection of beers. read more

Deliciousness and friendly staff with a nice wine selection. I had the moscato and was impressed. I also had the Reuben- definitely rivals my favorite which comes from a deli in Minnesota called Cecil's. I would definitely recommend this venue for a date or an intimate group of friends. Visiting McAllen on business from California and this is definitely a spot that had a northern California vibe. A cute hipster lounge type of setting, indie music, over 100 craft beers on draft, great selection of wine, dim ambiance, and friendly knowledgeable staff. Tall high wooden booths with pillows give the place a romantic feel great for casual dates when your looking for a place to relax with a good beer. It was almost as if I stepped out of McAllen and was teleported to a place you would easily find in SLO or Santa Cruz. It's tucked away in the Arts district in a beautiful neighborhood. This place is great. They have a good selection of beers and probably wines too, but I'm a beer drinker myself. There food is delicious and very high quality. The food has a high class restaurant feel to it but the atmosphere of the place is more relaxed. It's defiantly the place to go when the art walk is on. I go for the beer selection mainly. If you're a beer expert or anything like that make sure to ask the manager for his opinion on beers. I asked for a beer similar tasting to a smooth larger like Heineken, and the waitress didn't have a clue and gave me something wheaty and malted. Other than that, this place is a great place to go. First time there. Loved it! Our server Alex was everything you want your server to be-prompt, knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. So many beer choices! He asked a few questions about our beer preferences, then made some suggestions. We really liked our choices. We both had the Lunch Special which was Blackened Chicken Pasta With Andouille. Wow! I will start by saying that the beer selection is really good and that's all this place has going on for them. The bartenders have absolutely no knowledge about craft beer, and Mike is the worst one. I asked him to recomend a Stout and he brought me a Witbier and then he tried to convinced me I was wrong when I questioned him. At closing time I had a little bit beer left and he rudely asked me to chug my beer or dump it by saying, and I quote "I did what you wanted all night, now you will do as I say" What the actual FUCK?? At this point I handed him my beer and asked him to dump it and he responded with a growl. I was never rude to him and in exchange I received one of the worst service I have experienced. read more

This is Roosevelt's baby! Just get a pizza or something they suggest from the kitchen. This is the only place with beer like this, ever. I mean try a few beers. Best happy hour for a 5 pm zip. sit outside, cut it up, nice big ashtrays. Cool staff, never overbearing but they can tell a story. Even work on projects here. Omg come on, you still go to starbusts and tiddle around with a couple of drinks the WHOLE time. No, invite a business partner here and have like 3 pints of Texas gold, buy a pack from the dispenser. We have returned a couple of times for brunch since I first rated this spot so highly. As a result, I have to downgrade my rating. Even when we try to be among the first to arrive, the foods are not ready or already gone. And there is no real concern on the part of staff to provide you with the missing items later. People often need some assistance on the buffet line & there is none. Serving utensils may be missing. Can't access the soup without the lid falling into the pot. How can they serve crab legs & have no utensils to help you get to the meat? We were treating friends & it was not the special occasion I hoped for. The pulled pork was the best ever! The breaded butterfly shrimp was very good. And a $2 mimosa is a good deal anytime. But when my friend is into beer & hasn't been there before, I'd like a waiter to speak with knowledge, if not a bit of enthusiasm about the craft beers that are available. Since my friend asked for Stout, could he not come back to ask if he liked it, or discuss it? Just disappointed I guess. read more

Lots of great craft beer choices, although all the IPA drafts were high ABV. Service for the beers was helpful, but slow. We sat in the covered patio area, and the food service out there was really slow. After waiting about 20 minutes after our beers were served, we finally went inside to ask someone to take our food orders. We also had to go back inside to ask for our bill. During that time none of the wait staff came out to the patio to check on the customers there. However, the food was great. We had the Cuban sandwich and the healthy salmon dinner. So two stars at best for the service and 4 stars for the quality of the beer selection and the food. read more

I don't go to this place as often as I should. My work schedule probably has something to do with it. Also, it's a little bit of a younger crowd (I'm 43), so I don't always feel in my element. I will say that the beer selection is pretty good for a McAllen establishment. You won't find this selection anywhere else in the RGV. The crowd is most definitely hipster to trendy. No worries, it's not as hipster as Austin so you won't find sriracha at every table. They do serve food here too. I've had some of it on a couple visits. It's pretty tasty but don't expect to make a full meal out of it. It's better than just pub food. They've got some interesting treats to snack on. Tapas and the like are what you'll find here. The pub is located in the heart of the downtown art district. The outdoor patio is very comfortable but bring a jacket on a chilly night. If you need a place to find a good craft beer, this is your spot. This is not a brewery though. Do not expect in house beer making. read more

Roosevelt on 7 is great! I'm new to McAllen and will be here for the next few years so I wanted to become acquainted with the local establishments. My friend and I were greeted immediately by a friendly bartender named Joe who welcomed me to the area and made us feel very much at home. His knowledge of beer is phenomenal and his recommendations were spot on. The place has quite a large and varied beer selection that appeals to a wide audience... and the $3 Texas beer happy hour was awesome. I have been going to Roosevelt's for several years. I lived in Germany for many years and miss the beer! Roosevelt's is the only place in the valley where I can get beer that is close to what you drink in Europe. A few times they were low in selection, but I still go back. Worth the time and money! I can not believe the service we had today, July 22, 2013 at Roosevelts. I had raved to some out of town guests that I needed to take them here before leaving back to Houston. First of all the only waitress working spent more time on her phone than waiting on the 5 or 6 guests in the establishment. She continued to disappear and looked bothered about serving. We ordered appetizers but our real surprise came when my pregnant friend found a dead fly in her salad. She had already eaten more than half when she discovered it. The waitress did take the plate back and offered another dish but my friend just ordered another mushroom appetizer. We all laughed when we received the bill because the waitress ended up charging my friend the mushroom appetizer. We all thought the appetizer should have been complimentary after a disgusting discovery in her salad. I am not sure after today CAN NOT return with guests. I love the food and laid back ambience but the lack of cleanliness ( greasy menus, unclean tables, dirty floors) & rude service will probably keep us away until problems are resolved. Excellent place in McAllen to go to! Good service and fantastic selection of beers anything from ale, ipa, lagers etc. No waterdown beer (budlight, ml, ultra...) Great tasting beers ad wines to go with an awesome selection of food. Menu selection is perfect, not pages and pages of items. Great food! Love the people that go there as well. the only reason I'm giving this place 1 little star is because the waitress that is there during lunch time is probably one of the worst waitresses I have had. I don't expect to be treated like royalty but I do expect to be treated with respect and politeness. this waitress always delivers the menu, bill, or whatever in a bad manner. I usually sit outside and I do understand that since there are more people inside but to be waiting 15 minutes just to get a menu & my drink order when I can CLEARLY see her looking at me thru the door is plain rude. As other reviewers have mentioned- there isn't much in the way of chill bars to hang out at in RGV, so most importantly the atmosphere at Roosevelt's is something we really enjoy. (And honestly, probably the only reason we've bothered to return.) I'll also second the opinions that service is hit or miss: some nights we'll go and have our food and drinks with no issues, other times service can be slow, and sometimes it's downright awful. One night in particular we were with a group of 10 (dinner and drinks split into about 7 checks, so admittedly...that can be confusing) but all of the drinks for the group were put on our tab. When we received our bill, we notified the waiter of the mistake and he just shrugged like "not my problem." My husband went inside to talk to him and explained that this check had about 23 drinks on it, while the other 6 checks had none- so clearly this was a mistake. He had been taking orders and serving our table throughout the evening and obviously knows he didn't serve 23 drinks to a single couple. The waiter became really combative and after some arguing agreed to split the difference, he ate half the check but still asked us to pay for the other half. We even offered to help him split up who had what drinks, we didn't want him to lose money but he huffily told us to forget it...the whole thing was really uncomfortable and we just chalked the ordeal up to laziness. Unfortunately that's pretty standard attitude for the staff. The outside patio is nice, but seating (both inside and out) can sometimes be an issue. The patio has a collection of large tables that are great for bigger groups- but when seating is scarce it's kind of obnoxious to see two and foursomes occupying a table that seats 8. Would make a little more sense for them to break up those tables into smaller seating for slower weeknight evenings and put them back together for the busier nights- but again, that would require effort. The food is kind of meh, they do have some good stuff but nothing to write home about. It's worth a shot, is a nice casual place to grab a beer with friends, but not somewhere I ever find myself dying to go back to. read more

Tonight we decided to dine at this particular location for the first time. Had heard many reviews so decided on trying it out for ourselves. Have to mention that the food was delicious. I had the John Dillinger Ham and Bacon Pizza. My wife had a Caprese panini. Our drinks consisted of a Brooklyn lager, Pacifico, and Jacks pumpkin spice. Great beer selections, but the wine selection was not too expanded. You can actually find a lot of those wines at HEB for less. It was great to say that everything tasted good. From the food to the drinks, we were satisfied. The prices were decent. For all mentioned above we paid exactly 30 bucks. The only reason why we chose to give it 4 stars instead of 5 was because the service was poor. We weren't checked up on often, and our server changed every time. I understand that it may have been because they were understaffed but, we found that it wasn't such a bad thing. If you just have a little patience and relax, you can spend a much better time with your significant other as I did. Great place. read more
