Butterscotch pie
Phoebe M.

I visited on Thursday 8-9-23 Let me preface this review with a little backstory. I love butterscotch pie. The best butterscotch pie I've ever had was a homemade one from someone I knew through someone else. I've been on the hunt for a pie as good as that one for years. This lady once sold her pie at an auction for $350 because everyone there knew how good it was. I ain't that rich and my dreams of having her pie faded as the auction price raised. I have tried and reviewed pies from many different bakery's. I really made one lady mad when I said her pie was terrible, but those where the facts. If you'd like some entertainment you can find that review on Facebook and I'll tell ya, the comment section was pretty entertaining. So this isn't my first rodeo reviewing butterscotch pie. I will be brutally honest. Ok, with all that said, if the perfect pie was a 10/10 then this one is a solid 8.5/10. This is the best butterscotch pie I've purchased from any bakery. The only thing I can think I of to make it closer to the "perfect" one I had would be the filling to have added ooey gooey stuff. I wish I could get that old lady pie again, but since I can't this will definitely fill the craving. It is really good. Sometimes I wish I had never had that slice of Heaven because nothing will ever quite live up to it. She nearly ruined all future butterscotch pies. I'm happy I've found a good pie that satisfies the craving. I also tried the sugar cookie - I hear they are famous for these. I'm not a fan of sugar cookies, and this didn't change that for me. If you like sugar cookies I think you will really like them, but they aren't really for me. And yeah, I cried a little as I left that auction and watch that beautiful pie leave with someone else. I'll let ya know when I get over it.

Croissant breakfast sandwich
Theresa K.

I was visiting Morehead, and wanted to find a bakery. This was ranked among the top so I had to try it. As soon as you walk-in you're hit with the wonderful smell of the food. The place has two rooms filled with goodies. I was greeted as soon as I moved in and was given recommendations. Ultimately I ended up ordering the following items: honeybun cake, chicken salad, no bake chocolate oats cookie, and the croissant breakfast sandwich with sausage patty. I didn't get a chance to try the honeybun cake because my guy ate it lol. Although he did said it was really good. I enjoyed everything else, but the breakfast sandwich was AMAZING!! The croissant was soft and buttery, eggs were scrambled to perfection, and sausage patty is always good! Honestly, happy I don't live in Morehead because this place would take all my money on the croissant alone. lol. Whether you live in Morehead, visiting, or just passing through it is a MUST try!!

Carrot Cake

What they are known for are the bakery items and I'll tell you what... phenomenal. This is the best carrot cake I've ever had in my life. We also got the Artichoke Sandwich and Loaded baked potato soup. The sandwich was very good. However the soup was a little underwhelming, they need to add some flavor! Maybe try Dill. All in all, glad we stopped in.

She hand makes all of her baked goods and sugary sweets out of her house and there fore doesn't have an official storefront. She usually requires a day or two advance notice to be able to fulfill most orders, but that goes with any at home bakers. In my opinion, it is worth the wait. Cupcakes are really good and I try to grab an assortment of when I can. The price this trip was $14.65 for 6 cupcakes and a piece of Baklava. So not bad for the gourmet little bakery. I didn't make it out of town and back on the road before that baklava was devoured. For me, it not so much about the cupcakes than it is the thoughtfulness of a fresh baked treat that you can't get everyday. I grab them as a gift for when I am traveling through. I like the new store an location. Looks good. It is a new city so I will have to go 30 mins or so out of my way but will still make the journey on occasion as a treat when coming in. I just have to avoid the bypass but maybe the shop will help bring some more business into downtown Portsmouth. Service and experience has been hit or miss for each visit or attempted visit. This was my first visit at the new shop and was ok. As a customer I just don't feel valued or anything special here. It's like the excitement of them being there too is on or off. Just some good cupcakes and treats so that can be enough. Will see how future experiences at the new location goes and looking forward to updates with any future reviews.

Their buttercream frosting is second to none -- creamy, soft, not greasy and not gaggy-sweet. I have always found the staff (yes, even the younger ones) friendly, helpful and professional. I used to go twice a week until we moved out of the area, but now make the trip at least every month. These cupcakes store well in the fridge too, just make sure to let them come to room temp so the icing can soften. Every flavor is so good it's hard to pick a fave, but the white wedding cake and the lemon are at the top of my list. Highly recommended.

We always start at the country store which has an amazing deli. They have seating inside and some outside for eating. On this trip I ordered the ham and cheese with all the fixings. Their sandwiches are very reasonable and huge. I can only eat half the sandwich and I take the rest home. I also ordered pasta salad as a side which was tangy and delicious. My mom loves their chicken salad and macaroni salad. The store also has many homemade items such as an amazing cheese ball, plus an assortment of candy, jelly, applebutter and many of food items. It's always a good idea to visit the furniture store. I've been inside several times and have found some cool items such as Christian birthday cards. You never know what you might find. The furniture is beautifully crafted but a little pricey for me. Plus I have no way to get it back to Florida lol! Once we're done eating we head to the bakery. This is one of my favorite spots at Miller's. You can find a variety of donuts, pies, cakes and other sweets. On this trip I purchased glazed donuts, peanut butter cookies, a cream horn, and two long John donuts. My favorite long John has chocolate icing and white cream filling. The sign is hard to see from the main road so I suggest using your GPS. But if you have never been to Miller's I highly recommend you check them out. But don't go too hungry lol.

It is quite impressive and they do have a lot to choose from. I really enjoyed seeing how they've converted "junk" into beautiful pieces as well. Everyone wanted sweet treats so we headed on into the bakery. There were so many items to choose from. I love the hand pies, flaky crust with plenty of filling. Somehow I didn't take a picture of the coconut dessert I got but it was one of the most delicious pastries I've ever had. Sweet and rich, so good. It kind of feels like you can't choose wrong here, it's really just a matter of what you're in the mood for. If you like sweets you should come try them.
