Stopped by this gem today, what a cute place, awesome vibes, awesome food and awesome service... you have to check it out!!! Had the catfish, coleslaw, fries, cheeseburger, and brisket club, baked beans... ALL so good, we cleaned our plates!!! No room for a shake but I hear they are so good. Try it!!!

Breaded Pickles

I've been here a handful of times now and it's became a MUST do when in Morehead. I crave this place a lot when I'm at home. A rustic BBQ spot that has indoor and outdoor seating and great customer service. Avoid peak dinner/lunch times to avoid the rush! This place gets PACKED during those times. I've had several things on their menu and I've never been dissatisfied. The breaded pickles are immaculate. THE BEST fried pickles I've ever had. They're so crispy, light and not greasy like lots of other restaurants. The breading is flavored perfectly as well. The pork ranch fries are amazing as well! They're great for an appetizer or to get with a sandwich. This past weekend I got a special they offered: Philly Cheese Steak sandwich with Mac n Cheese! The Mac was great, super creamy and delicious. The Philly sandwich was also really good! I would definitely get it again. I never know what to choose when I go here because there's so many great options available. Memaw's liquor is a new addition right next to the restaurant. They have several different alcohol options including several exclusive, hard to find bourbons. As well as ice cream and various other items. I left with a bottle of the recent batch of Bookers! All in all -- a great spot in Morehead. A place I look forward to going every time I'm down there. If you're thinking about going, give it a try for sure!

Pulled pork sandwich (they forgot the bun)

I really wanted to like this place. We stopped in here to take a break from our travels. There were only a few other diners when we arrived. We walked inside and were told to seat ourselves. We proceeded to wait almost 15 min before a server greeted us at the table, despite a few leisurely hanging out at the door taking selfies. By the time our waitress came to our table, we were ready to order while placing our drink order. At this time, another couple sat at the booth next to us. We didn't order anything fancy, just a couple waters, a turkey club, and a pulled pork sandwich. The couple that came in after us were able to be waited on, served, paid their ticket, leave, and their table was cleaned all before we received our order. When it finally arrived, it seemed to have been rushed together, despite the long wait time. The turkey was piled in the middle, leaving just bread on each end. The bread was super greasy and hard and had been sitting long enough that it was cool to the touch. Our pulled pork sandwich was missing... the bread! ‍ Once again we had to waive down a server to ask for the bread for the sandwich we ordered. The sign out front advertised milkshakes and hand dipped ice cream yet when we asked to order some we were told we would have to go to a liquor store next door if we wanted ice cream. With all of that aside, the turkey club was not good and the pork was mediocre. Again, I really wanted to like this place, but it was just one let down after another.

Back side of Mahi!

This place USED to be good. It has went downhill! Ordered blackened mahi fish on a hoagie. The fish was overcooked and nearly burnt on the bottom. The hoagie taste as if it was soaked in oil. My beans literally had little to NO beans. Notice the 2 big pieces of fat on the side. I won't be going back. And portions have gotten extremely small! DISAPPOINTING! 2 sandwiches, 2 sides, 2 waters for $28!

Smoked bologna sandwich with cheese

Okay, okay, so it's not a barbecue sandwich, but is the best darn smoked bologna in all of EKy! It's so thick, you may get TMJ (the meat jitters) from eating it! It's totes worth the risk! And while I was too late in the day to land the fried tomatoes as a side , their mushrooms were a great consolation offering delicious crispy bits to savor!

Quick jaunt of I-64, if you have not visited this gem you are missing out. We will be back again, again and again for some extra tasty sides, tasty huge meat portions and sweet tea that is so sweet your toes may curl. Sauces are great, the bottles could use a hose down from folk over zealously squirting sauce on the BBQ. Preferred brisket, but pulled pork had some nice burnt ends. Table next to us had turkey, that is our next meat. Baked beans are sweet and chocked full of meat and onions, extra tasty. They have in-house beer cheese, they have icecream and much more to bring us back. Go Eat Here!!!! Summer time offers up outside dining, for winter you get to eat with the stuffy wall critters. Service is friendly with good suggestions and pretty quick to get you back on the road with good vittles in your belly.

Patio dining

Sabrina is my new BFF. She is the most amazing server I have ever had. She made great food recommendations - we had the fried pickles, beer cheese, mushroom burger, beef brisket, and chicken tenders. We also had tasty margaritas from the bar in the garage. The food was delicious, and dinner was just perfect, sitting outside on the patio with the country music playing and the gorgeous Kentucky sunset in the background. All of that alone was enough for an enjoyable experience, but Sabrina elevated it to a belly laughing good time. She even got my salty teenage daughter to laugh out loud. I can't wait to go back!

What has happened to this restaurant?…read more This used to be our favorite steakhouse to visit, and we would drive a good distance to get here. The service has been on a steady decline for about a year, and our most recent visit was the most disappointing so far. The rolls were overbaked and dry, and they came out dark brown with no shine from butter on top. We didn't even finish the basket, and the small plates had uneaten rolls. The salad bar was stocked and clean, but the ranch dressing was watered down, and some items, like the chickpeas, looked a little off. The service was the biggest issue. Our server was surprisingly disrespectful. I wanted a small portion with no leftovers and planned to order a kid's meal, since there is an option to eat as an adult meal for an additional three dollars which would be a good addition to the $9.99 salad bar which usually leaves me too full for a regular entree. Instead of simply taking the order, I was given a lecture about how there was no point in "gaming the system" because I would end up spending just as much for less food. I even explained that I wanted to pay the extra charge and was not trying to avoid anything. The rest of our table ordered ribs and ribeyes, so we were not exactly trying to cut corners. It felt more like she wanted to push us into ordering more for the sake of a larger tip, especially since we were also pressured to order appetizers and desserts. Because of the awkward experience, we ordered less and tipped less than usual. The manager did stop by our table, but when we gave a lukewarm response, he did not seem very interested. We are people who never complain, ever, but eating out is expensive, and there is a basic level of service and quality we expect for the money spent. Between the rolls, the service, and the fact that this is not our first disappointing visit in recent weeks, we will not be returning until we hear that things have improved. (To add perspective, we ate at a different steakhouse the day before which was very slow due to new hires being trained, but we had no complaints whatsoever because the staff was friendly and the food was delicious.)

My…read moretop-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality and I stopped by here for dinner last Wednesday on a pretty muggy, rainy evening on our way from the SE Appalachia section of KY to Irvine, KY. It was conveniently located right off 15, and despite the meh weather, the place was easy to spot largely because there were a lot of cars in the parking lot - a compliment to the restaurant and its food, or the only game in town? Based on our experience, probably a little bit of both. Definitely does have the roadhouse vibes; it's very spacious and kind of dark in there, with a bar to the right of the entrance and the vast majority of the acreage dedicated to a large dining area on the left. We were seated immediately and after the meal took advantage of the cool map situation by the bathrooms where, if you requested a pushpin from one of the employees, you placed it on the map to show where you came from. Already oodles of NJ representatives on there, which is unsurprising. The random North Dakota pushpin was a bit of a shock, but I guess they travel too. The menu was pretty large but I was immediately drawn to the Fried Catfish w/ Hush Puppies entree, along with the tater skins app, which our waitress went out of her way to compliment. The Catfish was decent; as you can see from the accompanying picture, it was a huge portion and I took a sizeable chunk of it to go (where I think I eventually threw it out because it's not really road trip friendly). Coincidentally (or not, given where we were in the country) I'd had some hush puppies the night before at a hotel in Blacksburg, VA, and these were better. Those others were over-fried but also had mac and cheese stuffed in them, so these basically had better texture but not as much flavor. The mac and cheese was a real low point, unfortunately. Not dissimilar to the hush puppies, they were super tasteless and a bit watery. They had a bit of breading/crumb topping, but it really didn't do anything to improve the situation - definitely something for them to work on. The taters were just okay; usually the issue with them is that they're in the deep fryer for too long (which is not an issue for a lot of people, I suspect), but these I thought actually weren't cooked enough. The interiors were a little tough so the potatoes could have used a little more time in the oven or fryer. Service was solid. Our waitress was very nice and happily contributed her thoughts/opinions on different items of the menu, which my chum loves to seek out when we're in a new, unfamiliar place. I was starting to get a little tired by this point in the day so it was nice to have efficient, quick turnaround times for everything. The prices were decent as well, which probably isn't too surprising given that we were still pretty far away from Lexington and other, more populated areas. This was fine for what it is, and my preference is always to go local when you're traveling through small town USA in lieu of the chains. This wasn't incredible, but we enjoyed our time here and left a literal physical reminder of our time here with the aforementioned pushpin.

She also brought us spare napkins without having to ask). Simple little things like this always make the difference between a good meal and a great meal!
