Absolutely blessed. The highway was shut down in Gunnison so my friends and I went the scenic route back to Denver. We ran into this spot and I cannot thank CDOT enough for not communicating effectively that the road was closed. THIS WAS THE BEST ACCIDENT FIND IVE EVER HAD BEFORE. The menu is small but HITS. I had the off menu special, chicken salad sandwich. Absolute gem. The tomatoes are all made fresh on the estate along with the amazing wine selection. Had a sav blanc because why not and it really was great. Tried my friends tomato bisque and it CRUSHED. Break up that road trip, go out of your way. Lunch with a side of mountain views? Don't mind if I do! Root and Vine is cute cafe in Paonia. And as my first line alluded to, the patio views of the Front Range are nothing short of extraordinary. With not many dining options in the area, we actually came here two days in a row. Though the food took a long time to come out, we were both satisfied with our meals. The menu ranges from breakfast burritos to lunch sandwiches, to coffee beverages and wine (they are, in fact, attached to Qutori Wines). They had some weekend brunch specials, too. My favorite meal of the two was the Grande Breakfast Burrito. For starters it was BIG, indeed. Loaded with potatoes, green chile and more. I especially liked the crispiness of the tortilla. Their Muffaletta Sandwich was unique to say the least. It definitely presents itself in a weird manner, with a slice of salami draped on toppings and French bread. It still tasted fine, especially after a hike, but the presentation threw me for a spin. When in Paonia, this is easily towards the top of the list. read more

Good food in a beautiful location overlooking the mountains/vineyards, at reasonable prices. Terrible service which is why this is only a 3 star review. We stopped by around noon with my two small (and famished) kids, ordering four sandwiches and a few desserts. It was somewhat busy but not crazy. They brought out dessert right away and because my kids were so hungry, they were fighting us to pick at the desserts. The food itself did not come out until more than half an hour after the desserts--long after people who came after us were served and had already finished their meals. When we were packing up, I had to ask two different people for a box about 3 times. Again the food was good--not great--and this is a cute place to stop. Several other reviews mention the slow service so I would say that this is a recommended stop only if you don't have small kids. If you do--best to go to Big Bs down the road for lunch where the service is much better. read more

So this place is super charming with amazing views of the vineyards. It was a great place to stop as we headed back to Denver. I will say that we did wait quite a while for our food. Enough time to enjoy our coffee and the view but just keep that in mind. Also, they do charge extra for a lot of items. One of my biggest pet peeves as a non-meat eater is if a breakfast sandwich comes with meat, let me sub tomato or avocado for free. Anyways, I'm sure there is a good business reason places don't do this. The coffee and food were delicious which is why I give it 5 stars. The view alone is worth the stop. read more

We drove by this place after being on the road several hours and turned around to check it out. So glad we did! We needed a break and this stop felt like an oasis to us. Their food is all organic, the wine is from their vineyard and the cherries are grown locally. We had sandwiches with cherries on the side and a big slice of cherry pie after! We ate here twice in our three day stay. Both times we ate there, the staff was friendly and the food was great. Probably the best place we ate at during our stay. For our first visit, we enjoyed some fantastic wine tasting with a very hospitable pourer Leigh?? (Maybe Lee) We enjoyed chatting with her about the history of Qutori winery and the different wines. We then had empanadas for lunch. I had the chipotle chicken, my wife had the green chili. Both were good, but I had food envy over hers. the green chili chicken was fantastic. Very flavorful with a zip of spice. Less than 48 hours later, we had their breakfast. My wife had their eggs benedict and I had the breakfast bagel. Eggs benedict was a huge portion, but she enjoyed them. The breakfast bagel was tasty as well. My only gripe is that they don't open until 8 am...I am starving by 8...:) read more

This is probably our favorite place to eat in Paonia (it's hard to choose a favorite!) The kitchen is consistent and mixes up excellent creations for breakfast & lunch. I'm gluten-free and there is always something for me on the menu. The mountain views and well landscaped couryard are a bonus! read more

Location is great and the food was pretty good. I'd say if you are in the area and need healthy choices, this is the place to go. We ordered the charcuterie board, hummus, salad, and caprese salad which was way too much for two! Good service and most importantly we know that they pay their workers fairly. A must stop if you want a quieter and beautiful stop, without the craziness of a bunch of kids running around. read more

Super delightful place right off the highway and perfect for some gnosh after wine tasting. Julie and staff are all extremely pleasant and accommodating. The kids and adults put in a big order and then the adults wine tasted till the food came, then picked a bottle for lunch. Empanadas, muffuletta, and gluten free hummus sandwich aren't to be missed. The empanadas are excellent as is the polenta casserole and the spinach pie, I could eat any of this every day! They lost a star with me at breakfast, not impressed. The half burrito was mostly potatoes, some sausage and an overcooked omelete like egg folded in and the $2 extra for avocado was like 3 small thin slices...weak compared to all the excellent items above.
