    the menu of the restaurant

We've been twice now, tasty food and friendly service. We haven't been when it's full so I can't complain about a wait or slow service, so that's a plus for me! It's been quiet and you can actually have a conversation with your party. My husband feels like some things need salt so taste before you season, everyone's taste is different.

a plate of deviled eggs with bacon and lettuce

Very nice and quaint restaurant with a nostalgic feel. The menu is quite extensive. Since we were there for lunch, we ordered an appetizer of the deviled eggs. 6 on a plate with bacon bits on a lettuce bed. Very salty, not particularly tasty, with maybe some curry seasoning? Would not order again. We ordered Cobb salads because of an article in our local paper showcasing a beautifully presented Cobb salad loaded with favorites like chicken and in this case pulled pork. How utterly disappointed we were when our salads arrived. The pulled pork was maybe two forks of a thin wisp of meat. There was no chicken tender(s). Chicken was almost non existent. There was maybe one whole tender cut up into 1/2 inch chunks. Same with the avocado. Instead of 4 or 5 beautiful slices on top as they showed on the newspaper, there were just maybe a quarter of an avocado cut up interspersed in the iceberg leaves. Truly a bait and switch. Very disappointing. We also had a burger that contained a fried green tomato, some type of sweet jam and bacon. It was good, served with red peas, which needed more flavor. I would not return for a Cobb salad, but maybe a try of something else. Too bad I don't have a picture of the salad I received as a comparison to what was advertised in our local paper. Like night and day.

He was just trying to keep us away from the good stuff! For starters, walking in was nice and comfortable and came with a friendly greeting. It was 2 o'clock on a Thursday and there was a bit of business, but not too much to keep us from a visit and going to our seat in just a minute. My wife and I had different items so that we could taste more things. I don't believe that there was any negative conversation about a single bite. It was easy to get excited about the flavor of everything that we had. Pure comfort food at its best. If you made it this far in the review and don't go find out how wonderful this is. They have reopened with more space and now have switched things to a buffet style restaurant. We had a party of six go today for lunch. Their hours are now from Friday - Sunday, 11AM - 8PM, and offer a full buffet )$18.95) or a Meat & Three or Meat & Two options. You can also order alacarte if you desire. They had a huge selection..Fried Chicken, Chicken with bacon, Brisket slices, Fried Pork tenderloins, Collards, green beans, lima beans, corn, black eyed peas, mash potatoes/gravy, banana pudding and peach cobbler along with a full salad bar. I've probably left off several things. Needless to say there's quite a selection. I tried a fried chicken breast. It was very good, crispy and not dry. Went well with the mashed potatoes and brown gravy. The collards and green beans were also good. I wasn't a big fan of the brisket. It was hard to cut with the knife that they'd given me, but it did have a good taste. I probably wouldn't order that again. I also didn't care for the peach cobbler as much as I usually do. The salad bar had two types of lettuce and quite a large choice for dressings. They also had a broccoli salad which was very runny and not as good as I would've thought. The lighting could be improved over the buffet items as it was hard to tell what some of them were. They had signs in front of the items on the glass but not everything was listed..having to ask what many were. I was a big fan of Southern Mama's at the other smaller site where they served regular sit-down and order from the menu. The buffet format just didn't impress me as much. You move down the line and the staff would take your tray and load it with whatever you picked. Then you sit at a table and the waitress will bring you your drink and often checks on you to see if you need anything else. Service was good. The opinion from my friends: Four of us had chicken. Two of us liked it, two didn't. The vegetables and sides were all good. The beets from the salad bar were just so-so, not great. Broccoli salad wasn't popular with two of us. I don't know if I'd go back for the buffet. I'd prefer to order just the chicken, mashed potatoes and Gravy as a meal. From what I've heard it can get busy on a Sunday. We arrived at 11:30 (Saturday) and there was plenty of room, but by 12:30 it was starting to build up a line to get in.
