Pork chops fried are grilled are tough. So very tough... Brussel sprouts are bland, Mac and cheese is ok, that creamed corn tastes like it has flour in it, maybe it's corn starch, that cornbread is the worst excuse for cornbread ever. No southerner would serve that dry crap, the sweet potato casserole was decent. The service is great, the restaurant is adorable and the staff are super nice, but the food is BAD. I stopped going there. The food was too inconsistent. My initial couple of visits were spectacular and I had the fish and chip when they are done right they are superb. The problem is that you never know how it's going to be on the day that you are there. The last time I again ordered fish and chips, they were not terrible but they weren't great. I also got some coleslaw that I wondered what was the strange taste coming from within. It was so odd that I asked our waiter and he supposedly asked the chef and was told that it was coleslaw dressing. I don't know it tasted like some sort of cleaning product and I could not finish eating it. My wife and I have been there approximately five times and once it was out of this world, but we have not had a repeat of that visit so we're not risking it anymore. We've been twice now, tasty food and friendly service. We haven't been when it's full so I can't complain about a wait or slow service, so that's a plus for me! Haven't been in a little while but coming back and having the same great meal that we always get every time we go.

Very nice and quaint restaurant with a nostalgic feel. The menu is quite extensive. Since we were there for lunch, we ordered an appetizer of the deviled eggs. 6 on a plate with bacon bits on a lettuce bed. Very salty, not particularly tasty, with maybe some curry seasoning? Would not order again. We ordered Cobb salads because of an article in our local paper showcasing a beautifully presented Cobb salad loaded with favorites like chicken and in this case pulled pork. How utterly disappointed we were when our salads arrived. The pulled pork was maybe two forks of a thin wisp of meat. There was no chicken tender(s). Chicken was almost non existent. There was maybe one whole tender cut up into 1/2 inch chunks. Same with the avocado. Instead of 4 or 5 beautiful slices on top as they showed on the newspaper, there were just maybe a quarter of an avocado cut up interspersed in the iceberg leaves. Truly a bait and switch. Very disappointing. We also had a burger that contained a fried green tomato, some type of sweet jam and bacon. It was good, served with red peas, which needed more flavor. I would not return for a Cobb salad, but maybe a try of something else. Too bad I don't have a picture of the salad I received as a comparison to what was advertised in our local paper. I have been here twice now and the atmosphere is quaint and country. The hostess and servers do a fine job with the food and keep you well hydrated. The smallest peeve I have with the place is at least one food item I order is over seasoned, under seasoned, or just funny tasting. Example is creamed corn, one of my favorite things ever. I have eaten gallons over my lifetime and it is pretty hard to mess up, until now. I don't know what they add, mayo, pickle juice or whatever, but it's inedible to me. It's always hit or miss to the point I am actually afraid to to try something else. Please keep it simple, country cooking doesn't need fancy spices, just plain old salt and pepper. I am definitely going to ask about flavors or a small sample before I order other menu items going forward. read more

Food is great and service was very nice BUT the building seems to have a mold / mildew smell, problem about it. We went twice because we weren't sure on it but after the last time our clothes and mask smelt of mildew and we kept smelling it all day after we had left. Such a shame and because of this we marked it a 3 and unlikely to go back :( which is quite sad as the food and service was good. read more

Not sure how this location compares to the Lexington root cellar. We decided to try it on a whim. What we tried: oyster starter, prime rib (ordered medium rare, it came closer to medium but still enjoyed it) and shrimp/grits. All the flavors were good, and being from the west coast I have to say these are the first grits I could see myself ordering again. Only slightly negative note was the sweet potato casserole side. Just ordered take-out and EVERYTHING was awesome! Fried chicken livers with the right seasoning and just the right proportion of seasoning. The creamed corn was homemade and fresh. Blackened catfish BLT was standout good. And the onion rings had real onions tender enough to bite through, with batter that stayed on, wasn't greasy, and still had some crunch despite the ride home. After some thought need to update review. Food was ok but not great. Small portions for the price. Had oysters about 8 in order. Wanted baked potato but I guess person with recipe was not in yet.
