Her style as a teacher has…read morehelp me gain both knowledge in fundamentals of painting like color theory, composition, and value while encouraging me to develop my own painting practice outside of class. I find that she is a rare teacher who can work equally well with beginning art students and experienced artists. Her approach with all students is encouraging, honest, and tailored to their level of skill and interest. Above all Ruthie creates a positive environment in her classes where all are welcome to explore their interest in painting, learn about their craft, and perhaps discover more about themselves. I highly recommend her classes.

Always challenging herself to say more with less, she paints from observation, limiting her palettes and teasing out the essential form of her subject matter, a process that involves the viewer in the completion of an image. Ruthie's minimal approach includes her Japanese influence--she studied in both the U.S. and Japan--and her practice of completing each work in a limited number of sittings. While allowing herself the freedom to paint diverse subject matter in a wide variety of styles, she frequently returns to, and sensitively renders, the human form. The fact remains that Ruthie V. has made some very good paintings, and you should know about her. - Jen Graves, The Stranger "... a painter's painter."- Mitchell Albala

On 1-31-2023 I brought in 3 silk screens and 2 paintings to be deordorized and appraised which I had acquired It was from a smoker and the art work needed to have the tobacco smell mitigated. They had done this in the past for a silk screen with the same issues. It was done in a matter of weeks and at a reasonable price. Not so with this lot. After not hearing from Phoenix for several weeks I called and was told "someone would let me know" when they would complete the process. I was asked to pay $200 which was not an issue. I called every month and was told it takes a long time to get smoke out of silk. During the summer I called and was told again that my art work was not done. This is 6+ months and "still not done". I wanted my property back- no one knew exactly where it was but would look for it. By this point I felt that my art was being held hostage. They "found" it and set it back to Issaquah on August 5, 2023. I was told I had a balance of $460. Phoenix said that the work was not done because I requested items before deodorizing was complete. During this period of time (June 25) I brought in a Purple Heart awarded to a close relative severely wounded in combat. I wanted it to be placed in a shadow box. Last week (September 29) I walked by Phoenix while shopping at Gilman Village. Imagine my surprise when I saw a sign on the store window that Phoenix Art and Restoration was closed! Luckily someone was inside and gave me back my Purple Heart- It had not even been started on! What a disappointment and a scam. I would have liked to give negative stars to this dipicable business, but apparently that isn't an option. Do not trust any of your valuables to this business.

It's nice that everyone was able to do their own booking and we could still get spots sitting next to each other. Some of us were lucky enough to find a 5$ off discount code as well. The class started and ended on time. Everything was set up when we arrived and aprons were provided. It did fill up though so perhaps it is important to register asap. There were two instructors who helped with everything we needed and demonstrated the painting in the front of the room. I liked that the class I took had the pretraced picture on the palette when I arrived. I had previously taken a wine and paint class with another company and it definitely does not look as good due to this. It was also nice that we had a variety of colors to choose from for our background so each picture looked individual. I am surprisingly happy with how mine turned out. A member of our group arrived very late and was still able to catch up and ended up with a great finished product. I think everyone was slightly disappointed that the class did not include any beer from the brewery, but we were able purchase and drink while we painted. One of the instructors ended up doing some waitressing for us as well, which was incredibly nice and allowed us to keep on painting with little distraction. They also did a few raffles for some small prizes which was a nice touch.

Deb & Irina are the most patient people I've met in regards to teaching. They keep you on track,…read morebut follow up in case you were too focused and missed something. They are encouraging and make it a fun event. They are engaged with every single person, and don't try to rush you. I've done a few events with them at Emory's on Silver Lake, and everyone just has a great time. For a non-artist, I'm pretty impressed with my results. It's neat they travel to different locations, so you can find something near you on a specific day and it's easy to sign up! And I LOVE that they do more than just canvas prints, so you can get more creative and not have all these prints and nowhere to put them! The wine bottle lamps are AWESOME.
