I have been buying native plants here for my neighborhood butterfly garden as well as for my own yard for many years. I have also used their delivery service for large orders. The plants, people, and service are always high quality. They also have many non-natives that are beautiful including plants for vegetable and flower gardens as well as garden tools, fertilizersr, pots, and other garden supplies. My world has become so very small due to COVID- I barely ever leave the house and when I do I essentially never go inside when I get there. This has meant lots of shopping online- and trying to support local when I do. As Valentines Day approached, I knew that the gift my husband would appreciate the most would be plants for our garden- an online shopping would not be the best option. We had visited Roots and Shoots several years ago when, as one of the reviewers previously alluded to, you had to 'know someone' to be sent to a 'non descript house' I had heard that they now have a storefront and I figured I would venture over there. I am so glad I did! First of all- the space is (I think) all outdoors. That is to say, they have so many plants outside that there was no need to venture indoors and being COVID and my hesitancy to be inside, I didn't even ask about it. Steven helped me and he was super knowledgable. My husband loves roses but they are hard to grow here without a lot of chemicals and Steven introduced me to a native rose (!)- as well as a few other native flowering plants that I know will make my husband's day. If you are looking for a large selection of native plants with helpful staff in a peaceful setting with plenty of parking- this is the place. Also, the prices are extremely reasonable. I paid over $14.00 for 8 starter plants, even at Lowe's w High priced Bonnie plants, more than 50% higher at R&S's........When I went back and priced some bagged manure, even that was 50% more, so I asked why and they said they had to compete. It's probably a good thing that I didn't know this nursery was here earlier, or I'd be spending my money here weekly. I came in early on Saturday, just after they opened, with the purpose of looking around at their stock in hopes of finding some milkweed for our flower garden. I was greeted politely and asked if I needed any help. I was just browsing, but found what I was looking for fairly quickly. I ended up leaving with six milkweed plants, each about $5. Honestly, I was just expecting to find seeds, but to find plants that were already grown was a huge bonus. Two different varieties and sizes for the garden. Perfect. I resisted the urge to buy anything else, but there is SO much here to help support your landscaping and gardening addiction. read more

I was on the hunt for a local reasonably priced nursery and I found that in Roots and Shoots. They have a great selection and the prices are fair. The thing that stood out the most to me was their goal of sustainability and selection of native plants. I was really looking to fill up my front flower bed with plants that could thrive and survive on it's own for the most part in the Charleston area. I was EXTREMELY impressed with their HUGE Plant Spec Sheet available on their website that I was able to browse and research prior to going in person. They put a ton of time and effort into the spreadsheet and it has some amazing information that I think we could all benefit from as far as native plants go. We love this place. They recently made the move to Wapoo. During Covid, most of us have been working in the yard, to save our sanity. In Roots and Shoots we have found a gem and some amazingly different plants/trees like olive, parsley tree, spice bush, honey fig, - I could to on and on. This should be your number one lawn and garden center for the entire se corner of SC. I've shopped around to find the most researched and knowledgeable and it is them. Most websites will try to sell you things that are not only expensive but are terrible for the environment. They have done the detailed work in being knowledgeable about habitat health and ecology. This is the future. It's about food web dynamics, and whether you think it affects you or not, it does! Without our pollinators we do not have food. They do have regular and natural alternatives but please give the native gardening a try! It will surprise you in beautiful ways, with diverse populations that keep each other in check. If you simplify an ecosystem, you kill it, and pay a lot of money to maintain it while polluting your surrounding environment. These are the experts in the area, trust them, not the people trying to sell you chemicals. read more

My neighbor told me about this place. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a sweet black dog. I walked around admiring the variations of native plants. There are few things I can resist in life, plants obvs being one. I love watching them grow and bloom. I loved most everything and wanted to buy it all. I opted for the white bird of paradise in a beautiful bee pot. Their selections on pots is fun and diverse. I finally bought a bird bath stand and saw the other day a bird playing in her. All in all, I love my purchases and will be a regularly when I need to play in the dirt. read more

We found these folks by accident. Searching Yelp for plant nursery's I discovered they were having a spring sale of plants today! So i packed up my bride and off we went. They have their twice a year sale in the spring and fall. We pull up to this non descript house and went into the back yard and it was full of all kinds of fun plants!!! The owner was super knowledgeable and showed us around, of course we peppered him with questions because we are known to be dangerous to plants! We decided on two dwarf blueberry bushes, they were already blooming! and a rosemary bush. He gave us the quick rundown on how not to kill them and we loaded up! They also have a landscape business and these folks specialize in local acclimated plants for your home. Nice to know. The plants you get at lowes or home depot might have just been brought in from out of state and dont do well in our climate. We were pleased to have found these folks and were already planning on our fall pickup! Support local business's!!!! read more
