We had a water control issue in our backyard. We hired Down to Earth "Landscape Architects" to help…read moreus solve the problem. They gave us an estimate of around $2500, which we agreed to. We made half the payment and were told that they were going to contact us to set up the date for the work. They did not. Instead, they did a surprise show and one morning appeared on our yard. On a day we were not home and were unable to supervise their work. We were asked to make the next payment right away, which we complied. Our agreement was that they were going to dig a trench, lay stones, top-soil and mulch and put some sod down. This was to prevent storm water over pouring to our neighbor's yard. They laid the stones, soil, mulch and sod. But they did not dig the trench (which was the hardest part for us and the main reason we wanted to hire "professionals" to do the work). Not surprisingly, because of this poor workmanship, the first rain, the VERY FIRST rain, after the work was complete, all the top soil and mulch was washed over to our neighbor's yard. We were back to zero; in fact in a worse shape that what we started with! After spending all that hard earned money.... We took pictures and sent him a very kind email and asked him to come back to check the site. His response was that we have to pay him to come back to the site. Yes, he told us that he has to be paid to see the mess he created! After trying to convince him to come and see the result of his workmanship (and also the design, because it was his design) for one week, we had to give up. He did not return our calls, emails or text messages. That week it kept raining and every time it rained, the more top soil and mulch got washed over. We had no choice but to fix it (spending MORE MONEY!). We spent even more money for the work that we have already paid for! Since then we have taken him to small claims court. And filed an official complaint with BBB. BUYER BEWARE: In his quotes, he does not include labor cost. He jacks up the price for material (3 times the cost of top soil, 2 times the cost of sod etc.) to HIDE the cost of labor. That way when you take him to the court, you have harder time for blaming his poor workmanship. We have a lawyer friend who helped us with that, but make sure in his quote, you make him write the cost of workmanship. He told us (in person and in email) that our yard was going to take several days for his crew to complete. Our neighbor saw him come and go within couple of hours. So, make sure to be there to supervise him and his crew. His website claims that he is a "landscape architect" - after my interactions with him, I do not believe his a licensed architect. There is a lot of false advertisement going on. Our experience working with Dan Davis has been incredibly negative. His business practices are very DISHONEST and UNPROFESSIONAL.

Jason and Ashley told us our project would take four days, and it ended up taking three months. Our…read moreproject entailed laying stone tiles in a small patio area and constructing a countertop. At first, Jason and Ashley seemed professional because they accommodated our style choices. We were clear with our wishes and put everything in writing to communicate as openly as possible. Unfortunately, Jason did not understand a written, critical request to lay the stone in a pattern, so it was installed in an arbitrary, senseless way. When we pointed it out to Jason, he denied that he did anything wrong, then said it was our fault because we "didn't catch it in time." This demonstrated his lack of integrity. Over the next 3 months, he and Ashley went back and forth on whether they would fix their mistake. For weeks on end, we would hear nothing from them, despite multiple attempts to contact them. At one point, Jason came and ripped up our entire backyard, causing our backyard, driveway, and garage to be unusable - covered in broken stone and dust, and then left it that way for a month, with no communication. In the rare instances that they saw or talked to us, they were very rude. Jason was extremely sexist, interrupting me mid-sentence, pointing his finger at me to "silence" me, and only allowing my husband to answer his questions. Finally, after months of begging, Jason re-installed the stone. This took several days, and we had to stay home from work at the last minute, to make sure everything was done the correct way. The whole time, Jason and all of his workers were tremendously disrespectful. Jason said we tried to "screw" him by asking the company to pay for its mistake. Also, their workmanship was awful. They wanted to use chipped/broken stones for the repair. Lastly, they ignored our requested dimensions of the countertop and significantly changed its size. We are glad to be done with AllOutdoors. We want to believe Ashley and Jason are good people, but we would never trust them to do any work on our home again. Obviously, we don't recommend them.

This is not a pleasant chore, but it has to be said…read more Overall, the work was rushed and shoddy. We asked him to blow the leaves off the back of our property, as well as remove small trees and brush. He only did a portion of the work, and we had to remind him we wanted the entire back done, despite making this a top priority in our first meeting. Even then he left out a portion, and had to be reminded again to do what had been asked. The flowers and plants were planted without due attention to detail, as well as insufficient fertilizing with the supplies we had bought for that purpose. We've had to go over all the plantings and do them properly afterwards. He transplanted some azaleas from the front to the back yard, and only one of the three was done properly. Again, we've had to fix what he had done improperly. The river rocks spread over our garden beds was done well at first, but as the job progressed it got sloppier. I spent quite a bit of time rectifying this situation by adding more rocks and making it neat. There's just very little attention to detail evident in the work he did, and not a great deal of care was applied. There was always a sense of the work being rushed instead of applying the care it needed. Our lawn has felt the effects from his truck and excavator driving on it, and some spots will not be growing back without replanting. It looked like a battlefield when he was done. If you do hire BDS, make sure you are watchful for his use of the truck and excavator. They can do real damage, as they did to our property. I will also add that he did damage to our driveway, and refuses to acknowledge it. We had a crack in the driveway before he came, and now it is much more than a crack, and that part of the driveway is collapsing into pieces. I asked him to send me pictures he said proved that he didn't do it, but he never did, despite being asked twice. The neighbors have also commented on the damage that he did. All I can say is, if you are considering BDS, you've been warned.
