Really good drinks! I'm impressed that the bartender can make an extremely amazing cocktail. We came here after dinner as it was open and plenty of seating available. I got the Panic Button (gin, grapefruit, lemon and egg white) it was delicious! Not overly sweet and had a good tart to it. We also ordered the New York sour, and it was delicious! I looked up at Joe, the barkeep at Roquette, and almost yelled out "Land Ho!" He mixed me one of his expert concoctions, and I felt right at home, discovery was unnecessary. I have written about Roquette, one of Seattle's best cocktail bars, snug, discreet, and romantic. The server where we had dinner earlier in the evening told us this was a speakeasy. I think people in Seattle have a different concept of speakeasy than we do in Chicago. I would call this more of a tavern with mixologist. It's small and casual. We weee coming from a fancy dinner and felt really overdressed. We started to leave but the bartenders convinced us to stay and give it a try. I'm glad we did. We visit Seattle once or twice a year and lived on the east side for a year. This was hands down the best bar I've visited in the PNW. The drinks were good. The service was great and the other patrons were friendly and fun to talk to. One of my knocks against Seattle-area bars was that never felt very friendly. You can sit down at a bar in Chicago and make new best friends in an hour. In Seattle, no one even talks to you. The ambiance is really beautiful and the blue velvet couches/tropical mural are very classy and well-done. However, the drinks didn't especially 'wow' me--the menu is divided up into categories like "grapes", "grains," etc. Lots of cognac I noticed! I opted for "The Fall of Man" which had sherry in it as well as green apples for a garnish. My friend ordered a drink that had strawberries for a garnish (can't remember what else was in it). Loved the addition of bergamot bitters and clean taste I then immediately followed with a Brooklyn, as they had the Amer Picon, and it was the first time I had a proper one since moving back to the US. I ended with the Tipperay which was a tasty combination of Irish whiskey, vermouth Cocchi Torino, green chartreuse, orange bitters. Food is limited to tins, and the tuna we had also hit the spot.
