Wednesday, June 30th 2021, I sat down at a bar in Seattle for the first time since March 15, 2020. A veil was lifted over Belltown. Covid-19 is still lurking, but with one hand tied behind its back. For me, life must begin again and anew. At my age, I have to cherish every smile, hug, and handshake. I felt like Vasco de Gama navigating my bar stool at Roquette. I looked up at Joe, the barkeep at Roquette, and almost yelled out "Land Ho!" He mixed me one of his expert concoctions, and I felt right at home, discovery was unnecessary. I have written about Roquette, one of Seattle's best cocktail bars, snug, discreet, and romantic. It's like a tiny boîte in on a quiet street in the Ninth Arrondissement of Paris, sophisticated and charming, without effort or pretense. I have a reservation tonight at Roquette. A dear couple is visiting from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and I want to show them the best of Seattle. The last time we were together was in Paris. Cozy little bar with friendly staff and tinned fish!! Panic Button was pretty, tho a little too sweet for me. Sparkling rose was a nice sipper with our snacks. The octopus tin was good, but the smoked trout even better. Served with a wedge of lemon, bottle hot hot sauce, pickled peppers, and a stack of saltines- my perfect meal! read more

Their daily happy hour is 5pm - 7pm which makes so much more sense than the usual 3pm - 5pm I see at other places. Their cocktails are delicious and artfully crafted. Relaxing, cozy ambience with dim lighting which is good for tired eyes when winding down. Cute decor. read more

Me and my friends ordered the Panic Button which was recommended to us and I got to say this was a really interesting experience. The server was really welcoming and friendly. Didn't take long for our drinks. Upon taking a few sips, I already like the drink; then taking the seed and chewing it left a numb feeling (also really salty at first) but then following up with the drink was really unique. Cute little bar next to Umi. Love the interior although the palm trees on the back wall are really random. Great bartenders, especially Brennan. (Hope I remembered right) try their version of the French 75 and also their mango spritzer. Really wonderful. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed this speakeasy style cocktail bar. The place is tiny, so expect a wait to get in, but it is totally worth it! The staff members were really nice and our server took the time to answer questions to help us order. We ordered the Red Letter Day and the Angry Bird and loved them both equally. The server where we had dinner earlier in the evening told us this was a speakeasy. I think people in Seattle have a different concept of speakeasy than we do in Chicago. I would call this more of a tavern with mixologist. It's small and casual. We weee coming from a fancy dinner and felt really overdressed. We started to leave but the bartenders convinced us to stay and give it a try. I'm glad we did. We visit Seattle once or twice a year and lived on the east side for a year. This was hands down the best bar I've visited in the PNW. The drinks were good. The service was great and the other patrons were friendly and fun to talk to. One of my knocks against Seattle-area bars was that never felt very friendly. You can sit down at a bar in Chicago and make new best friends in an hour. In Seattle, no one even talks to you. This bar is making me reconsider that stance. Maybe it's just the bars I've been going to. If you like friendly bars with good drinks, i think you should give Roquette a try. read more

Wow. Did not expect such an excellent cocktail experience after leaving Bath Tub Gin & Co unsatisfied. Best Sazerac variation ive ever had, and best non-alc options I've ever tasted (my prego wife was astounded). Just a perfect bar that should be every tourist's cocktail destination in Seattle. Take that from a person who has traveled from LA, to NYC, to London, to Paris, to Rome, etc in search of great cocktails. Will (the bartender) is truly doing the Lord's work. read more

I picked this spot for going out to celebrate my birthday with a friend, after hearing lots of buzz. The ambiance is really beautiful and the blue velvet couches/tropical mural are very classy and well-done. However, the drinks didn't especially 'wow' me--the menu is divided up into categories like "grapes", "grains," etc. Lots of cognac I noticed! I opted for "The Fall of Man" which had sherry in it as well as green apples for a garnish. My friend ordered a drink that had strawberries for a garnish (can't remember what else was in it). We both enjoyed the drinks but for $16 cocktails I guess I was expecting something a bit more memorable. P.S. They have a $60 off-menu snack which consists of caviar and Bugles. Small and intimate speakeasy where you can actually have a conversation while enjoying a drink. Large selection of liquors. High end cocktails range from $15-50+. Definitely a place for a fancy cocktail, but not more than one if you are on a budget. I had a vesper martini (my favorite when made correctly) and they did not disappoint. Great service. read more

Definitely one of the best cocktail spots with a French twist - they even had Amer Picon! Love the space and set up and menu is a nice mix of classics as well as some originals. Started off with their Best Vesper, which was definitely one of the best I have had. Loved the addition of bergamot bitters and clean taste I then immediately followed with a Brooklyn, as they had the Amer Picon, and it was the first time I had a proper one since moving back to the US. I ended with the Tipperay which was a tasty combination of Irish whiskey, vermouth Cocchi Torino, green chartreuse, orange bitters. Food is limited to tins, and the tuna we had also hit the spot. Roquette really hits all the right notes, and it will be a place that I will return to over and over again. read more

Fantastic and attentive service and expertly crafted drinks. I love when you find a bartender who makes a drink that feels worth the price. There are so many over priced mediocre drinks in Belltown, but these are the opposite. The flavors are complex and well thought out and the presentation is beautiful. AMAZING (and beautiful) cocktails! Wish their snack/food menu was bigger, but I understand that restaurants have had to switch up their offerings in covid times. For food right now, they've got all sorts of tinned fish; served with various pickled items and crackers. Had the Panic Button cocktail, which has some seed that makes your tongue feel fuzzed and tingly for a bit. The bartender recommended eating it halfway through the drink. Definitely an experience! Proof of vaccination required, with ID. read more

Came here on a whim after getting sushi next door and it did not disappoint! Cute space for a date whether it be with a partner or a group of friends. Stopped by here for a quick drink before an event and it was cool. Serious cocktail vibes and pretty extensive menu (seems to have something for everyone). Got the jade monkey which was fine but probably my mistake because I didn't see that there was midori in it so it ended up feeling like a green melon calpico which is not my favorite but I appreciate the artistry that went into the cocktail. Friend got a pina de nada which was like a pina colada flavored old fashion??? Super cool and definitely down to try more from this place. read more

Came here based on my friend's suggestion on a Friday night, it was pretty busy but we were lucky enough have be able to grab 2 seats at the bar. I love the setting and the intimate atmosphere of the place, the whole bar is relatively small and more of the tables were reserved, so reservation is highly recommended. I had Espresso Martini and my gf had Palmetto Sour, we both loved our drinks. The bar tender was very attentive, always made sure our water glasses were full. read more

We stopped in for cocktails late at night. Yes there's always gonna be a wait, deal with it since it is most definitely worth it. Their cocktails are awesome! Okay, so if you don't like boozy drinks, then you may not like them, but I got the Irish Morning and it was so good, but very boozy. Stop by at this speakeasy for good drinks. read more

Stumbled in here after eating at Umi and not sure how I haven't been in here before. Interesting cocktails and laid back ambiance that allows for coming in dressed however you want. The drinks are great, decor is cool but unfortunately the rude and arrogant bartenders ruin the bar for me. If you charge premium prices for drinks you better be professional and provide premium customer service. I can't remember the last time any staff at The Metropolitan Grill raised their voice at me or ignored me. Do better! read more

My partner and I came in on a slow Monday afternoon. The two gents who served us were delightful (Joe and Kevin..? Sorry gents). I asked for a non-alcoholic beverage and received a divine Pathfinder, grenadine, coffee concoction. She ordered a Chartreuse highball off of their happy hour menu. Truly magnificent. Roquette is one of my favorite cocktail bars in Seattle. They are located next to Umi Sake House behind a blue door. When you enter you enter a kind of dim light oasis. I would recommend sitting at the bar for your first visit so you can get recommendations from the bartenders (ALL OF WHICH ARE AMAZING). They've also added more food and have caviar as well. Instead of traditionally serving it with Blinis they do it with bugles which I totally prefer. Every drink I've had here has been amazing and I love coming to visit on a cold seattle night read more

Love me some speak-easy bars! What a lovely find! Despite being a Seattle native, I'm not familiar with what Seattle has to offer in terms of speak-easies. I have visited a number in Philadelphia as well as NY city. I suppose I simply doubted Seattle could live up to my east coast experiences. I'm happy to say Roquette proved me wrong! Firstly, true to the speak-easy persona, the entrance was questionable in identification. We couldn't tell if we were at the right place or if it was even open. When we recognized the entrance however, we easily entered and found ourselves in a very cool, throwback, swanky bar. It was relatively intimate and seating was readily available because we arrived around 5:30pm. Happy hour lasts until 7pm, which makes sense because that's prime dinner time rather than "drinking time." Unfortunately, our visit was a few weeks ago and I can't recall the exact drinks we ordered, but they were excellent cocktails that weren't OVERLY sweet like many bars do. There were generous pours of liquor, and fruit cocktails were made with fresh fruit. I only remembered to do this review because we are pending a second visit before the New Year and needed to send this place some love! Great find! Hopefully, it doesn't change with increasing popularity, as is often the case with some businesses. read more

I rarely go out in Belltown, but I'm so glad I checked out this place! We were able to sit right away at around 8pm on a Friday and the staff was so great! Parker made some great drinks and even made us an off-menu mixed shot based on what type of flavors we were looking for. Overall the vibes of this place are super stylish and the drinks are worth the price. I'll definitely be coming back next time I'm in Belltown! read more

Asked a rockstar bartender at a nice restaurant in Post Alley where she would grab cocktails in Seattle and she said to go here. So I did and I'm a scary good judge of character as this place was great. More of a date spot seemingly but the drinks were exquisite as were the humans behind the bar. 10/10 would recommend for great cocktails in Seattle read more

My favorite is a mezcal-based concoction called a Barrel Roll, which the bartender generously made for me even though it wasn't currently on the menu. Perhaps the A team works the dinner shift, as there is zero service for the Sunday brunch shift. La Loba is led by a James Beard-Nominated Chef with experience at renowned Michelin-starred restaurants, which is why our experience at La Loba was so extra disappointing. As a guest, I expected more, and as guests, we should have received more. We were sat and our server takes our order. We did not see him again until the end our meal. Despite it not being busy, as they first opened at 10:00 AM, we were never checked on while we waited 20 minutes for waffles and tableside French toast. Perhaps we changed our minds, and did want to order coffee, or a cocktail, or supplement to our order (which I did), but was never afforded the opportunity as we never saw our server, and all other servers seemed incredibly busy just walking around the restaurant, not doing very much. This was not isolated to our table; there was another table where they were essentially left alone after their food arrived. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing brunch, La Loba will not be providing it, as there is a DJ playing music for ambience. The music was incredibly loud, where I could not hear my husband, who was sitting 3 feet away from me. When the food finally arrived, we were given a "show" (the tableside French toast), I am not sure why the server bothered to tell us what he was adding, as we could not hear him over the music and his mumbling. The food was unimpressive. My husband's waffles were hard and dry. My "XXL" French Toast was essentially a huge hunk of bread, topped with fresh berries, granola, nuts, vanilla gelato, and choice of local honey or dulce de leche. I had expected the bread to have been sliced and stacked, or for the bread itself to be somewhat flavorful. But no. Almost $40 for a hunk of hard, bland bread and some berries. The only flavorful aspect of the plate was the gelato. I could have forgiven the food if the service was better. Our server finally made an appearance to clear our plates and was shocked I didn't finish my hunk of bread. It was only at this point he asked if wanted anything else. We received our check as he hovered while we tapped our card to pay, and immediately cleared our table as we were getting up. If only he gave the same attention to clearing our table as he did in actually hosting us with hospitality, we would have returned for dinner. The food is not spectacular, or singular enough to override the non-existent service. The restaurant, like its food, is beautiful to the eye, but a huge disappointment when you actually experience it. A generous one star, because zero is unavailable. Just another Seattle restaurant with self-entitled service staff expecting a 20 percent gratuity for barely doing the minimum.
