Food portions were OK. Definitely on the gourmet side, but the burger was quite filling! It's not too noticeable on my photo, but the hamburger has a mini burger on top of it. Food is ok but quite pricey, so I'd recommend going there for light bites and sharing if in a big group. The bill will add up, otherwise. Our server was good, however, unlike other restaurants and bars we encountered in Tulum, this place was not very friendly or inviting to celebrations. Our waiter, nor any other service staff at the restaurant offered any sort of celebratory sparkler, even after consuming over $400 in food and drinks.
This was a full-on experience night and easily one of the highlights of the trip. From the moment we walked in, the place had energy, music, lights, and a crowd clearly there to celebrate something. It never felt stiff or overly formal, just lively and fun the entire evening. The food was excellent across the board, but the standout was the tomahawk steak presentation. When it arrived, sparklers, drums, and all eyes on the table, it honestly felt like some kind of ceremonial animal sacrifice in the most entertaining way possible. Over the top? Absolutely. Memorable? Even more so. Great atmosphere, great service, and legitimately great food to back it up. We laughed, ate way too much, and left buzzing from the whole experience. A true 5-star night in Tulum.
We had been to RosaNegra in Mexico City and decided to continue the tradition by going to the Tulum one. The Tulum one is wayyy larger than the Mexico City one and the vibe was very energetic. The servers were super sweet and ensured we were comfortable despite the loud crowd. They were enjoying themselves too which I totally loved. We ordered a bunch of cocktails and some fried tofu, grilled asparagus and some Japanese rice for apps. The food took a while and wasn't impressive, except for the Japanese rice but I wouldn't hold it against them as this restaurant is more of a party place. The music that day was insane and they were playing both old classic and new house music tracks. The price is on the steeper side so be careful about what you are ordering.
We had a fun dinner here one night with some friends and enjoyed the dark mysterious atmosphere, the great food, and excellent service. Our server Raul was very helpful in ordering gluten-free options for me. We enjoyed the artful presentation of the cocktails and the tacos were fabulous. It's a pricey tourist area so just be prepared for American prices but definitely better service and great food.
Go here if you want the Tulum party experience. The staff has some tracks and tricks to ensure they include every table in and there are groups celebrating bachelorettes and weddings so it gets really lit (especially with the lit fire sticks they pass). Again we were only here to try a dessert and the experience, so we got the chocolate sphere, which should come with a disclaimer that it serves 4-5 people. And it comes with a whole show, lights drama et al. Even their restrooms have a vibe with stone sinks and the works. They don't push tips.
Wow!!! I'd never been to Tulum and the Strip makes your head Spin! It is filled with Extraordinary, Elegant, Fine Cuisine & Luxury shopping. This place was nothing short of that! And Festive to boot! The had a show with music handed us sparklers & people danced about and stop tables. The food was Great service for the price could've been better that's the ONLY reason for 4 stars; and quite frankly it was more like 4 1/2 stars. The best thing about this place was my Espresso Martini it was presently second to none & we have stayed at 5 stars hotels all over the world. Very very impressive!
The vibe inside this restaurant is great, but the food was just okay. My friend ordered the fish tacos. These were some of the worst tacos I've tried - super dry and salty and the salsa lacked flavor. I had the salmon which was tasty, but nothing exceptional. I asked for the salmon cooked medium and it came out to the temperature I requested. I wish there was actually a little more salt on this dish. The burrata was good. The server was attentive and friendly! If you are dining in Tulum, most restaurants do not have windows to enclose the building. RoseNegra was the same, so it was fairly hot while we were eating. If I came back to Tulum, I wouldn't come back here.
I had a fantastic time at this restaurant. One of the main reasons I selected it for our bachelorette party dinner is because I saw that they had great vegan options. I knew nothing else. We walked in and immediately we were hit in the face by the mood that is RosaNegra. There were sparklers at every table, pretty much every person. That lifted the spirits somewhat. We were seated literally spank in front of the stage. I could probably feel them breathe if I was paying attention. The bride was swept away by a random man who started dancing salsa with her. Did he work there? We will never know. The menu has a bunch of shit, but not nearly as much vegan stuff as I was expecting. Pretty minimal, actually. Or maybe it was just that it was all mushrooms? I don't recall but I couldn't, as a mushroom-disliker, partake. I ended up ordering the guac, humita empanada, and esquite tostadas. The rest of the table ordered a smorgasbord of other things including the mashed potatoes (delicious) and elote (delicious). For my drink, I ordered something with tequila or mezcal, perhaps the bacan and it arrived with a fucking SKULL in the glass. It was SO COOL. The other people who got a drink received these neon colored beverages that tasted amazing. This place has a lot of highs and lows, the highs would make a 5, the lows a 3 so that's why I have settled on a 4. Highs: -the food was FANTASTIC, the esquite tostadas where incredible. I was too full for the guac -the drinks, as above, were really unique and campy -the whole vibe is something else. I felt like I was dining in a night club. EDM music, tons of sparklers, it was a really crazy experience. Walking home from this restaurant made me realize that many restaurants on that street are like this Lows: -I never received the empanada but was charged for it -the waiter was inappropriate. He literally yelled at the person who was paying for not giving enough of a tip. She tipped him! But he wasn't satisfied with the amount and literally asked her, and expected an answer, for a higher tip. It was really awkward and uncomfortable I did read online (after coming home thank god) that someone witnessed a shooting outside rosa negra. Not at all rosa negra's fault whatsoever but more a testament to the fact that Tulum seems like it is much more dangerous than is widely known and if you are planning a trip, maybe you should reconsider. If you are already here, well, this is certainly an option for dinner!
Ambiance: super cute restaurant but we got sat by the dj booth in a corner. awkward location. But i loved that they give everyone a sparkler during dinner with people dancing. Loved it & it looked cool! Service: service was decent - wasn't super fast but we felt attended Food: The beef empanada was good! I also loved their spicy salsa that was given complimentary. I got fish tacos and it was also good! The fish itself needed a bit more seasoning. This place is on the pricey side. For 1 cocktail, bottled water, fish tacos, fries, and tip came out to $90. Im from Vegas and was shocked at how pricey it was.
While I fully expected this place to be pricey and vibe focused, charging 400 pesos ($20) per water refill is absolutely atrocious without any heads up considering we didn't order or knowingly receive bottled water. The cocktails were weak and food ok (my fish of the day was well portioned but over cooked). Party vibes were good, and they did try to make each group feel celebrated, but the lack of transparency leading to a surprise bill was unsettling.
Our group of 6 had a 9:45 reservation, but arrived closer to 10 with our table still not ready. We waited about 20-25 minutes to be seated. We were seated right near the bar where people were hanging out (I had to constantly tell people to move because they were so close to me). Wifi wasn't working so we were provided with menus. After looking over the menu I got gucamole as an appetizer and shared with the table. They also provided us with bread with cheese and various sauces. The bread was delicious and filling. The gucamole was equally as delicious. I ordered the mushroom and truffle risotto. O.M.G. super delicious and flavorful. The risotto had a really good consistency with mushrooms in every bite. I was thoroughly pleased. As patrons we are the entertainment lol. At random moments servers will bring out sparklers and insist you stand in your chair and vibe to the music. It really was a good time with good music. Service was slow. It took a while for us to get our drinks, food, checks, and to pay. Make sure you have at least 2 hours to dedicate to being there. This restaurant can be a lil pricey and it is definitely a vibe, but not covid friendly. read more

Went on a Saturday night , definitely encourage you to make reservations. Food wise , I would say the food was okay. We got the lobster tacos , lobster bisque , the tenderloin steak with chipotle cheddar mash potatoes. We definitely weren't as attended to as I expected. Probably saw our server every 35 minutes, about 3 times on a 3 hour stay. The negative side of it , our server asked for $20 as a tip after taking 35 minutes to come back with the bill -- the audacity at that. Go for the experience , don't expect the best service. read more

This place is the definition of a 5 star experience. Nothing sucks here. Let's start with the food. They have all sorts of things on the menu and I don't think you can go wrong. The lamb is ridiculous. The tacos are delicious and have a good balance of flavor. The empanada's are also some of the best I have had. The dough is flaky and inside is just right. The filing is not overpowering which is always nice. But honestly you don't come here for the food even though it is 5 stars. The atmosphere is amazing. They have great music playing and it gets lively as the night goes on. One of the most fun dinners I have had. This is a must visit when going to Tulum. read more

This place is an awful scam. Didn't choose the place. Was super bummed that I wasted a night of my vacation at this place. Loud music to avoid explanations; feel cool. Strobe lights and pressure to drink and do shared rituals that make very little sense. They might, but there's no time or ability to explain. It's not very pretty. Non descript. Boring old decor. Literally every place touching is better designed and far more beautiful. Awful value, and I'm used to Santa Monica prices. Burnt bread. Fairly meh empanadas and tacos. Possibly worse than on the street for 1/100th the cost. Took half the food away before I was finished without asking. Delivered Salmon with dry ice and a strobe light flashing a covered container. Somebody bought a fancy steak and it was done less than they wanted. Waiter made them cut it open in front of whole table and it was wrong. Salmon is chewy and about the same as my novice mom can do on a grill with lemon. Caesar is slightly better than gas station quality, massive leaves not even possible to eat without cutting. Pretty much nobody finished their food. One person likened it to Panda Express. I felt the comparison was fair. Perhaps the only thing I ate worth mentioning as good: mushroom risotto. Was pretty decent. Drinks are small and mildly watered down. The gin and tonic was dyed blue for no reason. Sparklers and novelty items to distract from the lack of quantity and quality. The hookah (?) have blinking lights inside. DJ was annoying, playing jock jams, constantly changing tempo for kinda annoying tranistions. Too loud to talk below a yell. Candles are hastily topped with tin foil. They spilled pouring water. They made us stand on our chairs for like 2 minutes with no explanation for a poor drop that the DJ didn't deliver. With sparklers. It was amazingly sad. Try literally anywhere else. read more

From the food to the vibe of the restaurant, everything was immaculate. All the dishes we ordered were delicious and the service is A1. The servers are all so attentive and nice. For dinner we had the street corn on the cob, spicy ground beef empanada, tuna tostada, salmon coconut ceviche, and duck carnita tacos. Typically I don't like eating corn on a cob because it's too much work to eat. But the dipping sauces that came with the corn had me hooked. The tuna tostada was my favorite! I loved the flavor of the salmon coconut ceviche but it was sitting on a bowl of ice and could've been better if it wasn't so chilly. From 8-9pm, they pass out sparklers for everyone and it's a whole vibe! So fun! read more

Won't let you down. We had Abigail be our waitress and the service did not disappoint , she was fenomenal. They do sparkler shows every hour-ish, the crowd really puts on a show while you enjoy your dinner. Yes the prices are a little high but the atmosphere and the vibes don't let you down! read more

I visited this restaurant with a big group. The food was pretty good, service was wonderful and the drinks were fun. We spent about $900 for a group of 9. Everything was great until one of us got food poisoning from the rib eye steak. For background, we grill steaks medium rare all the time, and love them. The steak at the restaurant came out, looked alright, and he ate it. One of our other friends tried a bite as well. Later that night, both of them began feeling sick. The person who ordered the steak ended up sick on the toilet with food poisoning the entire next day. We called and emailed Rosa Negra, and they were fairly unresponsive, took days to respond, and simply stated their food products were up to their standards. We requested a refund multiple times and they didn't refund the steak. For a group that spent nearly $1K at the restaurant, this was extremely disappointing. Their steak ruined his last day on vacation. read more

definitely a party environment! Make sure you're ready to spend!!! This place is cute. They have the sparklers that come out and it gets the whole restaurant up & dancing. The food is delicious. Staff isn't friendly. They are used to fast paced touristy ambiance so I don't blame them. Go here if you are wanting a fun environment. Not the place to have a conversation during dinner. This is the place to dance & drink while you order some light bites. read more

LOVED this place...the people, the servers, the food, the ambiance..spent the most money on drinks.. I'm vegan and they have a totally Seperate full vegan menu. I got guacamole, a burger, and some mushroom tinga tostadas that was the star of the night. They also had a habanero sauce that was the BEST! Our waiters were amazing to say the least. They really accommodate you here, never had this type of hospitality in the US. This place sets the bar for ambiance. We came here after surviving hurricane grace, the people cleaned up everything just in time for 6pm for us to party...if that's not great service I don't know what is. You are able to pay in Mexican pesos and USD. They throw a party! If you want to party and have a great time, come here. They even give u shots and sparklers! Who doesn't love sparklers?! P.S bring money and lots of it. The pros: the ambiance, the service, the habanero salsa... The cons: I don't like that this place isn't as authentic as I hoped it would be. I wish the salsas were spicy, I wish white people didn't complain about how spicy food is especially in Mexico. You can tell they accommodate the white peoples taste here and not real authentic Mexican food. It lacked salt, lacked flavor overall, I wouldn't come here for the food itself. Definitely would recommend the mushroom tinga tostadas for any fellow vegan. But, I would come here for again for the party. So, if you've ever wanted to try super giant octopus or a giant Nigerian tiger prawn, Rosa Nega has got you covered. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The waiters attentive and could explain anything on the menu you had a question about. The service was A+. Cocktails were fabulous. I had the Lola (if you like passionfruit, this is your jam) and the Smokey Margarita (mezcal lovers, this is for you). I honestly could have tried the whole menu, but I was tired from a week of drinking and wanted to enjoy my food. Now for the entrees, oh boy. We ordered the Super Colossal Octopus and the Nigerian Tiger Prawn. When they say it's a Super Colossal Octopus, they weren't joking. It was just like, two of the octopus's legs, but they were HUGE. Also cooked to perfection. The octopus was so tender I couldn't stop eating it. None of that overcooked, chewy octopus here. If you needed a protein hit, well, get this then. Then comes the Nigerian Tiger Prawn. Holy moly. It was about a foot long, like the size of my forearm and I'm a 5 foot, small asian girl for reference. The center was cut open and cooked in garlic and butter and this was the best shrimp I've ever had in my life. Because of it's size, it tasted more like a shrimp x lobster hybrid and that is as good as it gets in my book. Definitely worth getting since how many chances in your life will you eat a shrimp that big?? Those two entrees were more than enough to feed me and my SO. Overall, if you're looking for a bit of some upscale dining but not TOO fancy, this place is it! It's also located on the beach road area so you're also nearby a bunch of beach clubs and cocktail lounges should those strike your fancy after dinner. read more

What an amazing dining experience!!! Visted Tulum for a wedding and the entire wedding party was accomadated at this tasty resturant. Just like the rest of Tulum, Rosa Negra is unique and authentic. The dining staff was top notch and great at providing recommendations. Most of the portions were absolutely sharable. I'd suggest ordering as you go to avoid over order lol. Every single thing that touched the table was hot, fresh, and delicious. They also have a wonderful wine and cocktail list. This seems to be currently one of the "it" spots in Tulum. It was suggested to us by our hotel. Due to COVID restrictions you need to make a reservation prior to attending. When you arrive, you are greeted by two gorgeous women in red dresses, and taken to your table. The service when we arrived at the place was great. I don't want to say the plates are overpriced, because they are huge. Sadly, you're not told that when ordering. Therefore, if you order any type of appetizer prior to eating, the amount of food you'll leave behind is ridiculous, for what will be a $50 (or more) plate. It was three of us, and I wholeheartedly believe we could have shared my plate and have gotten one appetizer. If the single plates were so large, I can't imagine what a "plate to share" would look like (there were some of those on the menu as well). I hate seeing so much food go to waste. More than making the "sale", I love when waiters/waitresses are honest about the plate sizes. I'll specifically speak about my food. I had the risotto with meat. If you look at the picture, you can clearly see the outline of oil along the whole plate, as well as the little puddles of oil in different areas in the middle. While my family members keep mentioning that it was probably from having too much cheese, it was somewhat gross. I did my best to eat it, but before we even called for the check, I was already feeling sick. The longer we stayed at the place, the fuller it got. For sure, if you want to party, this is a place to go to at night. Keeping in mind that due to COVID, there is an 11 PM curfew for Tulum. They have a DJ that plays techno music. They also have hookah and you can buy bottles. If that's not the environment that you're looking for, i'd suggest that you go at 6:00 PM. read more

First time to Tulum and would highly recommend coming to RosaNegra! The atmosphere was so lively and fun and service was amazing! Abigail was super attentive and gave a great recommendation for our dinner. The corn and mushroom appetizers are a must and Surf & Turf didn't disappoint. Def come to party. We spent our last night here. We had reservations at 9. It's sparklers every 10 min. There is little to no breeze, it was quite humid. But overall a good experience. I would skip the steak. I wanted to try the seafood but they informed me there was no seafood available. read more

Ah-ma-zing! If you're looking for a fun vibe , excellent service and great food , come here ! The best nights are Friday and Saturday when they have a live dj. They also do a light show at 10pm on those dates which really hyped up the crowd . I had the tomahawk steak, not featured in the pics here but worth every dollar , so delicious. Also had two ceviches and dessert . Everything was served with a great presentation and finger licking good. I would recommend this place for large groups or a fun night on town . They also have hookah , so my group and I ended staying after dinner to drink and smoke some hookah . I will be coming back for sure ! read more
