In…read moreshort, the care I received was exceptional in quality, compassion, thoroughness and communication. I have a unique cardiac history and exhibited one sign of a heart attack. Thankfully, after testing it was determined I had not suffered a cardiac event, but the symptom I had was the offshoot of an upper respiratory virus. I genuinely appreciated the staff's care and the thorough process they went through to be sure there was nothing more serious going on. It was well worth it for my piece of mind at the very minimum. These are kind, compassionate professionals throughout the house, and they explained everything in lay person terms I could understand. Skagit County is so fortunate to have Island Hospital!!!

E.R. 69 y.o. Female arrives ambulatory at 12:40 on a Wednesday afternoon. ER is empty. Complaint is…read moreleft arm numbness; comes and goes, slight nausea. History of Chronic Heart Failure, pace maker and defibrillator, multiple heart surgeries for genetic heart disease. Gets checked in, has vitals taken and is told to return to the waiting area. Family comes in with a five year old under the weather. Didn't look terribly serious, he was ambulatory and moving around the waiting area. That family was followed by a young lady and her mother. No idea their concern or diagnosis. Both sets of patients were checked in and taken back to the treatment area before any one called me. In fact, after be waiting an hour I drove myself home. An hour and a half after later Island Hospital called to see if I was still in the waiting area. I told them I was not and that I won't attempt to use the ER Department again.

As far as a nursing home and assisted living center Josephine home is A+ rating. We have had our…read moreparents there for over 5 years. They started out in the 2 bedroom suites and then when mom passed, dad moved to a studio suite. He is in a wheelchair and needs assistance so that was all a very easy transition for him. If he later needs more care it is added and we know that he can go to the full care area later on. The thing I notice the most is that it doesn't have the terrible smells that other homes have. (The nursing home smell) That is important, cuz it means they are clean. We appreciate that. So we are happy to know that he's getting good care there. Especially with the COVID-19. They have been very careful and safe with the residents there. We can now schedule an appointment to see him outside for 30 minutes. That is nice.

Mount Vernon Wa Life Care Center…read more I went to MVLCC after complications for an amputation with the idea that I would do a rehab stint there. These are my observations from a stay that ultimately was just under 8 weeks and included a state inspection where the state inspectors interviewed me. The Facility and My Room The facility serves 2 purposes, rehab, and long term residency. The facility is laid out nicely with a dining room adjacent to the kitchen, a day room to one side of the dining room and a centrally located activity room where groups could get together. The Gym and rehab rooms are at the far end of the building. There are a few nursing stations scattered down the central hallway. There is a dedicated shower room as none of the rooms seemed to have a shower in them, The Facility itself is dated and suffering from a lot of deferred maintenance they are playing catch up on. It needs paint, carpet, plumbing fixes here and there as well as some Hvac work.. I would expect the conditions to improve as they work the issues. My room was set up for 2 people and had 2 TVs but only 1 sink and shared a bathroom with the adjacent room. This wasn't too bad to deal with, but I might feel different if I was a woman sharing a bathroom with men in the connecting room. We did share the bathroom with women in the adjoining room for a short while. The gym and rehab room were what I was focused on and the equipment, while old, got the job done. The food was generally uninspiring, but they feed a lot of people 3 times a day so perhaps I need to ratchet my expectations down a bit. The kitchen staff also had to split meals between those residents eating in the dining room and those eating in their rooms so all in all, they did ok. There was limited consideration to doing diabetic options and I don't recall there being a dietician on staff. Now we get to talk about what made all of these shortcomings tolerable for me. The people on staff in Physical Therapy and the Occupational Therapy rooms were excellent and the one on one time they spend with you is tailored to what your individual health journey requires. I got stronger faster because of them and I can't say enough good things about them. Also, the CNAs, those non nurse caregivers, were great. Those that I interacted with took really good care and looked out for me, I owe them my thanks. But we need to consider that I was a low maintenance patient as I could do a lot of things for myself, others are not as lucky as I am and I noticed a distinct dropoff in care for those needing more help, and that's a shame. The Nurses I had were outstanding and made sure I was on time with my meds as well as doing a good job with wound care. One was also an amputee and walked me through some of my issues and that really helped. The Admin folks were really good at dealing with the insurance stuff as well as getting deliveries and mail to me. There was one particular bad apple among them but you just have to look beyond them So, would I go back there? If you are there for rehab, Yes, the good outweighs the bad and I can tell myself I can do anything for a month. If you are looking for long term care, I would ask them how they are doing on the deficiencies noted in their annual state inspection that occurred while I was there. Ask to see the report.

They have done an incredible amount of tests to determine what is ailing me. They saved my life. I had a doctor who shall remain nameless, but is from Anacortes Wa who wouldn't help me get oxygen when I got out of the hospital. Thank God for UGH/peace health professionals. I contacted them and they loaned me 2 big bottles and the tubing etc. Not many hospitals would do that. Like I said, amazing!

I am very displeased with the care that my dad received on January 30th and 31st of this year. He…read morewent in with a cough and had a hard time breathing. They did some tests and told us that he had RSV and that it was treatable and he would more than likely go home that night. He was being treated in a bed in the hallway and was sharing time on the monitors with another patient, so the staff was not continually monitoring him. I feel like they underestimated the severity of his condition and did not give him the attention that he needed because they were understaffed and too busy. Within 3-4 hours of being diagnosed with RSV and not doing anything to help or treat his symptoms, my dad went into cardiac arrest and died. The doctor admitted to us at the time of his death that they exhausted all of their resources of epinephrin and could not save him. I feel like they missed the signs of what was coming and are too blame for his death. I will never agree to be taken to United General, for any reason, if I were to have a medical emergency. I feel like this place should be shut down if they can't provide proper care and have enough staff/ equipment/drugs.

Adjusting table, some worn with holes, are spread out in the middle of a large room. No privacy or partitions, we don't want to share our private healthcare with random strangers. The carpet throughout the facility has large wrinkles, a major tripping issue. This is just not a good fit for us, and The Hard Sell is not hoe we do our business!

I also really like that the neck adjustments are done gently rather than bone crunching! It's easy to get same day appointments. The office is neat and clean.
