She was probably not a good fit for Chandler Square anymore and the management decided it was time for her to leave. The reason for the one-star rating is the way she was told to leave. Yes, "told." It was ugly. Rather than being kind to a 93 year old, she was basically told to get out ASAP in a very uncaring manner. Any good that came with my mom's stay was tossed out the window by a thoughtless manager who just wanted her out. My mom is not an emotional person. This experience caused her great anxiety. And the crying and hand-wringing was painful to see. It was totally unnecessary. I occasionally thought I might one day be a resident of Chandler Square. Not! After this experience I can tell you this: I will never live in Chandler Square and I will never recommend it to anyone. My recommendations will be just the opposite. The management just does not understand how to deal with people. They are cold.

Except for the food, which has improved lately, he seems to be happy there. I noticed both reviewers had California towns next to their names. It makes we wonder whether or not they actually lived at Cap Sante Court Retirement Community.

Across the board, the staff from the cleaning lady to the administration have been compassionate without being maudlin and very competent in their areas of care. They understand dementia deeply and bring years of experience to my brother's care. My 84 year old brother has middle stage Alzheimer's and we needed to bring him from an assisted living facility in Chicago to live closer to us as I'm his guardian. He's been there 2 weeks and is much more alert and oriented than when in Chicago. He welcomes the engagement with the staff and they are helping him come out of his shell. We are pleased, very pleased. I will try to update this in a month or two, but so far it has exceeded our hopes for my older brother.

He tries way too hard to come off as charming and caring but I can tell he's not. I didn't speak to him directly but I am a great judge of character and I can tell by the way he speaks to others that he's not genuine. The caretaker/nurse who was speaking to my friend was visibly tired. She seemed burned out and like she needed a break. The morale seems to be low amongst these caretakers. She was pleasant but seemed to be frustrated and exhausted. I did overhear some of the other caretakers/nurses gossiping loudly and playing on their phones at the tables in the kitchen. It didn't feel professional. The music was country and way too loud. I don't imagine these patients want to listen to modern day country music. The Latina gal who runs the Alzheimer's unit is abrasive, rude, loud, and snotty. I can tell the employees don't respect her. I overheard them discussing how much they dislike her and I don't blame them. The way she was speaking to them was unprofessional and classless. I would not ever want to work for someone who belittles their employees, and in front of patient's family and friends. Every time I've been at this facility, which is 3 times now, I could hear her yelling at employees and reprimanding them in the most unprofessional manner. Why is she employed in this field? She belongs working as a jail guard or something. I was visiting a dear friend and if I had any say in it, I'd do what I could to find her a new facility. This one is dirty, it doesn't feel like a happy place to be, and most of the patients were visibly depressed. I understand that Alzheimer's can cause that, but I do believe more could be done to make these people happy. The overwhelming smell of urine was making it hard to breathe without gagging. I understand that this can be somewhat normal, but this was overpowering and I left nauseated. Bottom line: do not place your loved one here. They deserve better. I would not be surprised if this place closes eventually. Upon doing some research, it appears they've been cited and fined many times by the state.

It is never ideal when your family member makes the decision (or it is made for them) to get some additional help in life but LCRI is great for offering a large menu of options to keep seniors entertained and social. My dad now rides in a men's ebike club all over town daily, scary I know but he is able to safely keep his independence. There is always something going on and the staff is really nice. The food was okay when my dad moved in and has gotten so much better... When I think about facilities for seniors, our family is happy our dad is here because he is happy he is here and has a full circle of friends.

Deborah is an extremely sweet, kind, and empathetic human who understands the anxiety we face when our loved ones need elderly assistance. She helped us navigate the process right from the beginning, giving us advice on many options. She was proactive with communication, checked in often, and spent time in person without being rushed. She didn't pressure us into anything, but rather looked out for our mom's best interest. The facility tour gave us the overall impression that the residents were very happy.

When I called the day before, the agency would not give me any information about the person except the first name. When I pressed for her last name, they only talked about "protecting the employee". From what? The post anesthesia patient is the one at risk getting in the car with a stranger. I can't tell my family the last name of the person I am getting in the car with? At least in an Uber or taxi, you have all the information displayed on their professional license, on your phone, the license plate. etc. and you can text that to a family member. Unfortunately Peace Health won't let you use an Uber and I was forced to cancel my procedure at the last minute.

I contacted Right at Home…read moreand spoke with Terri, asking her a few key questions that were essential in the care my father needed, which included asking if range of motion arm exercises is something employees could do, which she affirmatively said they could. I was assured they had trained staff and that they could easily accommodate the time frame needed. After the first weekend, employees told my father that they could not do arm stretches with him. I reached out to Terri several times, but she never responded regarding the exercises. The arm exercises were a critical part of why we decided to have care with Right at Home because these exercises were needed daily for the improvement of my father's quality of life. Unfortunately, this was not the most concerning incident that occurred during my experience with Right at Home. Some stressful experiences my father had endured under Right at Home were: Employees falling asleep on night shifts and him having to call out multiple times to wake them up for assistance; employees showing up late to shifts; inconsistency and lack of clarity with employee expectations and policies; employees asking my father to provide them with food and coffee; employees leaving in the middle of shifts; employees not showing up at all to shifts; employees not cleaning up after themselves while using my father's kitchen and restroom; an employee leaving their cigarette butts in a can on his porch; employees putting my father in uncomfortable and ultimately dangerous situations. One of the most uncomfortable situations my father was put in was an employee that repeatedly asked if she could go on smoke breaks. My father could tell the employee was on edge because she hadn't had a smoke break, so he allowed her to go multiple times throughout her shift. The employee also let my father know that most of her clients have dementia so she isn't used to interacting or having to ask to go on these smoke breaks. When I called to request my father not have this employee again, Terri's response was, "A lot of the older caregivers smoke." Well sure enough, the following week a scheduled employee did not show up and my father received the employee that smokes again. This visit was the most horrifying. My father needed to use the restroom and he fell when she took him. The employee panicked and my father had to cry out to ask her to help move his legs because they were pinned underneath him. He was bleeding and had serious bruising on his legs after the fall. The employee, stressed about my father's fall, went outside to smoke multiple times, and while she was in the house stayed in the other room not even checking on my father. While in the other room, my father could hear her speaking with someone at Right at Home, saying, "Well, the family will probably fire us now." I wrote an email to Sharon, the owner, documenting what my father experienced and requested that my father not pay for the lack of care her employee provided that day. I also raised a previous issue about an employee leaving mid-shift with little notice, and the on-call employee never showing up to cover for her. We hired Right at Home to provide 24-care for my father during the scheduled days, not just when it was convenient for them. When I called and finally spoke with Sharon, she seemed to have no concern at all about any of the issues I had brought to her attention. I asked her about the policy that wasn't followed with the on-call employee not showing up. She didn't give me any answer as to why policy was not followed and if any repercussions were administered. When I brought up my father's fall, Sharon told me that this was her best employee and that she has been with her for years. She never inquired about his condition. She even stated that because my father had built a rapport with the employee that it was fine she let him fall. She then, in a snarky tone, asked me, "Does your father have dementia or something?" To which, I responded, "No" but before I could say more, she cut me off and said, "Well then he can speak up for himself." I was in shock at the lack of concern. My father suffered a major injury at the hand of one of her employees and she couldn't be bothered to look in his file and see why we reached out for assistance and hired her company in the first place. There was no follow-up, call, or apology to my father after the horrific incident. Defeated, appalled, and exhausted from the disrespect, lack of integrity, and failure of transparency from Sharon, we finished our phone conversation by terminating care that following weekend. Only in the care of Right at Home did my father suffer a fall. No other person allowed this to happen from the time he was diagnosed with ALS until he passed away.
