So right off the bat I was irritated. It's a big shop, with lots of ham for sale, but wow, they are super pricey. I know they will say it's because they do all their own smoking, but there's a similar style place in Arizona where I live called The Pork Shop that has way more reasonable prices. Not that I'm suggesting you drive to AZ for a ham. I'm just saying their prices are a bit on the high side. I might stop in here again, but probably not.

I'll be passing through again soon and plan to report back on the savory fair. Let's get to the real reason for my visit: dessert pie! The list boasts traditional and specialty pies. They offer individual 4" or full 9" pies. The small pies can be purchased individually or as a 4-pack. I ordered 3 of the four packs to sample as many flavors as possible. I also ordered a full peach and apple crumb. I recommend for an order this size to call ahead. All the pies I purchased were frozen and had to be baked before serving. The mini pies come in an oven safe cardboard tin. I took these to work and heated them up in the toaster oven. They were big hit!! The consensus was that peach was the hands down favorite closely followed by tart cherry. The full size pies come in a traditional pie tin and bake up nicely in the oven. The only downside is waiting for the pie to cool after it comes out of the oven!! The apple crumb also comes very highly recommended. I would be remiss to not mention the drinks and smoothies. We had zero idea that the KT Caboose had been taken over and was open for business, but man, we were very pleasantly surprised. Not only is it on brand, being a caboose on the former rail line, it's like it was truly made for cyclists needing a nice pit stop. Shady umbrellas, trail views, and nice restrooms make this a total win. We got some ice cream and French press coffee, two of my favorite things in the world. It was wonderful, and I want to emphasize that what I am about to say is not a typo: it was *UNDER* priced. Yes, you read that right. In an era where grocery bills seem to add +$30 every week, and my old Amazon staples have all doubled, this place was actually underpriced. I don't remember exactly but an ice cream sundae with fresh fruit, several cups of coffee, and a big ice cream waffle cone were well under ten bucks. Johnny, feel free to bump them up a bit because we want you to make enough and to stay open for many years, otherwise we'll leave continue to just leave some extra as a tip for you next time in. There aren't a ton of places on the Katy since it's so rural and spread out, but with spots like Meriweather Cafe back west in Rocheport, and this spot, they really shine bright and make an impact. Made a stop after hitting the wineries to attend their anniversary party and it was so much fun!…read more The distillery, located in New Haven, is nestled between the railroad tracks and the river and both were more than adorable! There were special tastings inside and outside they had fire pits, bales of hay to sit on, fried food on sticks, live music and spiked warm/ cold drinks! They also had these fun fire games set up where you hit a target and a blast of fire lit up the sky - so cool! All of the drinks were amazing and they had a mug deal where if you bought the mug for $10 you could refill it for $3 - this was just for the party though. Everyone was super nice, even when my friend decided to make a hay angel after tripping in the drink line. It's also fun that Paddle Stop Brewery is across the street so we could choose from cocktails or beer. We kept saying that we felt like we stepped into Hallmark movie, with all the small town charm! This is an annual event and we can't wait to make the stop next year!!
