Don't be fooled by the sign out front tempting you in offering free samples. That's how they got me to stop by, but there weren't any available. When I asked about them the girl at the counter got all snippy with me asking if that's all I stopped in for. Look, I swing by the Osceola Cheese Store all the time because they have free samples, and I generally walk out of there having spent seventy dollars on cheese that I tried free samples of. So right off the bat I was irritated. It's a big shop, with lots of ham for sale, but wow, they are super pricey. I know they will say it's because they do all their own smoking, but there's a similar style place in Arizona where I live called The Pork Shop that has way more reasonable prices. Not that I'm suggesting you drive to AZ for a ham. I'm just saying their prices are a bit on the high side. I might stop in here again, but probably not. read more

I don't get to the store nearly as often as I would like to, but they offer shipping which has come in handy many times. The quality of meat is great, and we love trying the variety of sausages they carry. I have ordered many times for gift giving -- shipping directly to the recipient or having it shipped to my home to put it in a gift basket. read more

Local legend. This place has been around forever. If you enjoy great meat, this is the place for you. Most items are very pricey, but you are paying for high quality meat and unique flavor combinations you cannot find anywhere else. They also carry local jams, jellies, honey, etc. Tip: they have a diner style counter and table seating. They have daily specials. So it's not a bad idea to come hungry and have a meal there before you shop for meat. They also have free samples, but not sure if that is going on all the time or only on weekends. We love this place! It's just full of meat. The best section is the bratwurst part with over fifty different kinds of brats and sausages. We stood there for a very long time trying to decide which kinds to get. There are all kinds of cuts of pork, beef, you name it...and samples are all over the store. Swiss Meat offers standard sausage and deli meats made locally, but they really excel at bison and elk sausage. All the deli meats had samples provided and while most weren't up my alley, I liked being able to try before I buy. They have a small cheese offering, mainly processed cheese product, but the dill and garlic cheese curds are pretty tasty. We bought a small bag ($6.50) for a picnic later. They have a small deli counter as well with sandwiches and some warm offerings like brisket sandwiches. This is a great place. It's brats are now world famous but it's still a small operation. They have a small lunch counter and the food is really good! I had a mushroom and Swiss brat and it was fantastic. If you're passing through I highly recommend you stop. It is great for a quick lunch and to bring stuff home with you to cook. I usually don't care for brats because most are so fatty, but not Swiss brats. They are delicious and have so many different varieties! We go at least twice per year and stock up for the spring/summer and again in the Fall. By the way, they ARE open on Sundays. read more

We visited Swiss earlier this week and purchased several packages. Our daughter and her hubby to be grilled some tonight. We are going to have some for brunch the day of there wedding. They couldn't believe how good they were. We lost track of which flavor swear had, but they were all a five. We were disappointed. Yes, this place has a huge selection of cured sausages including those comprised of elk and bison. They also had whole smoked turkeys and chickens. We sampled many types of sausage but none stood out as special, although the elk wasn't bad. Specialty brats abounded for those who like other ingredients mixed into their meat like cheese or apples or whatever else you can think of but we prefer to do the combining myself on our plates by adding our own garnish. Most importantly there was no plain old pork sausage that can be fried and served with biscuits and gravy and we used to be able to buy at wurst marts. I was not disappointed. I went here for the first time to have a deer processed, and they did a wonderful job with it. But then, I wandered into the store. Truly friendly people and wonderful products. I'm a sausage and brat fan; and found the assortment available here remarkable. Apple and cinnamon sausage? We were just driving along route 19 and came across this place. Very nice facility with all kinds of food products mostly about pork but also lots of preserved food too. Many kinds of sausage and bacon. Lots of tasting bowls and just when you've worked your way to the many sausage freezers in the back, a very perky lady offers a sausage tasting. Six or seven and their pepper bacon. Now that's pepper on that bacon! Be prepared. All that we tasted were very good. Both smoked products and un-smoked. As would be expected, we liked some better than others but that's just us. A really fun place to visit. read more

They have more types of Brats and Sausage than you could imagine, Can you say Pizza sausage? I enjoyed the andouille sausage but the Beer Brats were unbelievably good. Stop by if you can they have samples everyday. worth the out of the way drive if you're in Hermann for the Wine or Beer. read more

The only thing better than the high quality meats and brats is the superior customer service. The drive from St Louis to Swiss Meats is certainly worth it because their bacon, hams, beef, and pork steaks are wonderful. I high recommend that you take the time to visit Swiss Meats.
