The least likely place to have amazing pizza, it's similar to dining at your favorite aunt's place. Reservations recommended.

The atmosphere is charming old bar mixed with farmhouse decor. But the pizza is the star attraction here. Personal favorite is the Tarantino, a spicy, garlicky pie on a nice thin crust. We also had the Margarita, but it's not as good as it used to be since they switched from mozzarella cheese to provolone. A good pizza, just not authentic. We always order the house salad which has olives, red peppers, almonds and Romaine served with their signature garlic dressing. Yum!

They have a wide selection of their offerings in a small 9", medium 12", and large 16". Or, if you like to control your own destiny, you can create your own. Along with this they have other offerings of hoagies and salads as well. This particular evening, my wife created her own and I had their "Rocket". Both smalls, both came out fresh and scorching hot, and both delicious. The pizza's chased a large salad for two that we enjoyed with their house balsamic dressing - not complaints there as well. The one and only nit was on the service. Though friendly, it wasn't as attentive as I would have like it to be. My wife had to catch the waitress' attention a couple of times for more tea. This always becomes a frustrating and tedious task. Anyway, the place get's lots of love from the locals, and it's obvious why. The location has a lot of old town charm, the food is good, and the drinks plentiful.

We often get take out but tonight we dined in to also visit the Ice Festival in town. Although not in the center business area around the Diamond, it's a short walk uptown. Great way to work off some of those calories ! Atmosphere is as expected of an old Italian establishment. Kinda grody with oil stained red checkered tablecloths and an old well worn wooden floor. "Artwork " adorns the walls circa 1950's Venice. But honestly I don't care! The pizza is THAT GOOD! We always order the weekend special which is a large pizza, family size salad (which is also Really Good with cheese, pepperoni and pepperoncini peppers and nice mixed greens) and a 2 liter soda of your choice. Extra for toppings but still a lot of food for a family of 4. If you're in Ligonier and craving pizza, this is the place to go. Don't confuse it with Joio's in Latrobe. Or the one in Carbon. THIS ONE is the best!

Square cut with a crispy and delicate pie-like crust and a sweet sauce. The one thing I do recommend is that you should add a salty or spicy topping to it (pepperoni, sausage, peppers, etc). I'm normally a plain pizza guy, but you need something to cut the sweetness. A large pie and a can of soda was right around $20.

There is something different and special about an Italian restaurant in Western PA. It's just better. More delicious and more hospitable. Carmine's is the perfect example. As mentioned in other reviews, Carmine's smells amazing. It will be crowded, so either arrive early or be prepared to wait. It's worth it. Everything our party ordered was terrific--zucchini planks, cheesy bread (from Enrico's), polenta, eggplant parm, and even an outstanding version of a Pittsburgh steak salad with that famous Carmine's dressing. So good! Great portion size for the price (50% cheaper than Connecticut). I also agree with reviewers who consider the marinara to be a tad too sweet, but that's up to your personal taste. It's still delicious. Carmine made a personal appearance at our table and was super hospitable. We could not have enjoyed the experience any more than we did. We will be back to Carmine's every time we are in Latrobe.

Our aunt mentioned Carmine's Pizza & Pasta so we decided to give it a try. When we arrived, the restaurant was packed. We later realized it was the day of the St. Patrick's Day parade so many people seemed to stop by afterwards. We noticed a lot of tables enjoying pizza but since we had just had pizza the day before, we decided to try some other dishes. We started with the Fried Cheese "Formaggio Fritto". The menu mentioned that it was made with aged provolone which is why we ordered it but it tasted more like mozzarella to us. Because of that, it wasn't quite what we expected. I ordered the Lump Crab Fettuccine with marinara sauce. The marinara was sweeter than I personally prefer and I didn't notice much crab flavor in the dish. My husband tried one of the polenta dishes since we don't often see polenta offered at Italian restaurants. We originally thought the polenta itself would be baked but it seemed that only the top was baked. We prefer polenta that's crispy on the outside so it wasn't exactly what we had in mind. The sauce on top was also on the sweeter side, though it paired better with the polenta. One thing we have to mention is the portion sizes. They were incredibly generous! My husband ended up getting about four meals out of his polenta dish. We also ordered tiramisu to go which was sweeter than we prefer but enjoyable with a nice espresso flavor. I almost feel bad writing this review because the staff were extremely nice and friendly. Overall, I think the flavors just didn't quite match our personal taste but we appreciated the great service and generous portions.
