We are from Ohio traveling through PA. I added a "lunch stop" to our trip and found this gem! So glad we stopped here! Everything was absolutely delicious!

    Thursday special Aglio Olio gnocchi
    Linda S.

My first visit and it won't be my last! Delicious Italian based foods are abundant on the menu making it hard to choose just one. Also lots of fried favorites and good old fashioned comfort foods if Italian isn't your thing. We had two appetizers for the table. We chose onion rings and fried dill pickle spears. Both were very good. Although I burnt the roof of my mouth biting into the fried pickle, it was worth it. As an entree I chose the Thursday special, which was Aglio Olio gnocchis with your choice of grilled chicken or hot sausage. I chose chicken and it was delicious! My friend had it with the sausage and enjoyed it as well. The servings were generous and we took about half of it home in take out containers. Desserts are home made and we had the pistachio cheesecake. It put us over the edge! Service was very good. Our waitress was attentive and pleasant. And the entire staff was very accommodating to our party of five. Decor is quaint. This isn't a place to go to be impressed with the ambiance, rather a solid dining choice because of the quality of the food and service. The restrooms were clean and smelled of bleach, which I kind of like. They are one-ers. My only complaint is that I wish they had provided a bag for the takeout boxes. My Aglio Olio leaked all over the car seat and my Italian leather handbag. Ugh!

    Gnocchi with Alfredo Sauce

The missus and I were torn between here and Papa Sal's tonight as we wanted a nice Italian meal, but we quickly realized we made a mistake in our choice. The restaurant was nearly empty as it was us and one other couple, yet it still took an overwhelmingly long amount of time to be served. We ordered an order of the Fried Cheese as an appetizer, and despite the long wait, it quickly became our favorite part of the meal. After nearly a half hour, our pasta dishes arrived. I ordered the Gnocchi with Alfredo Sauce and thought the portions were small and the noodles were overcooked, but I ate it anyways and enjoyed the flavor of the sauce. The missus ordered the Spaghetti and Meatballs and solidified my opinion on the overcooked pasta. Her pasta was significantly more overcooked than mine and was as she said "inedible". The hostess was understanding and offered us a free dessert, which was good, but did not come close to covering the overwhelmingly expensive meal. If you are in the mood for Italian and are torn between Ravalia's and Papa Sal's, choose the latter.

Greetings from the quaint downtown of Blairsville, PA!

My wife, who's Italian, wants to take this +1 hour trip several times a year just to come here because it reminds her of the various "Mom & Pop" restaurants of her hometown in northeast PA. It sits in downtown DuBois with plenty of parking options nearby. The restaurant is good sized but it also does a lot of business so plan ahead on the weekends. The inside has a cozy/hometown feel with pictures of their family all over the walls. I don't think much has changed to the interior in those 20 years and that's okay by me. For this outing we opted for the antipasta salad, Italian wedding soup, veal parm and stuffed manicotti. Their dishes are more traditional italian (i.e. not olive garden) and they offer lunch, half, or full-sized portions. Their gravy has a good balance between sweet and savory. They also make a great fresh baked loaf of bread and they're happy to bring several to the table throughout the course. It was a special occasion so we closed out the night with their famous strawberry cheesecake. Service was excellent and the bill, with several drinks, was around $60 for 2. This is not a chain; it has character, it's not polished but it's a true gem of spot in rural PA. I'm glad places like this still exist!

I really enjoy that the pasta is fresh and the menu isn't 40 pages long. It's straight to the point and you know what you're getting based on what is listed under the pasta shape. My short rib ricotta gnocchi was good but I do wish it had a bit more salt to bring more of the flavor to the front. The gnocchi texture was perfect and pillowy. The short rib mixed in nicely with all of the pasta and the sauce. My spouse enjoyed the cannelloni, which was pretty much their lasagna but also wanted a bit more salt. Our server was very nice and walked us through the menu options as well as told us about the seafood special for the night. The bread came out first and was delicious. The salad was also good and I don't usually like arugula. You could tell the ingredients were fresh and I enjoy that they take the time to do that. The space is very cute and you can't really miss it even with it being in an executive building. It's a smaller area but it can seat a good amount of people. We noticed they had a pasta making class so maybe next time we're in town, we can do it. The red sangria had a great balance where it wasn't too sweet. We didn't do dessert but we did enjoy the digestif at the end with limoncello and my spouse ate the amaretti cookies as I couldn't.

The pasta shapes are unlike anything else you'll find in Western PA. They even offer complimentary limoncello and Amaretti cookies to end your meal, which is a really nice touch. They have family style options for groups who want to try a variety of dishes, but the menu is just as fitting for a date night. Bonus: the leftovers taste just as good the next day! The space can get a bit loud with high ceilings and a full house, but the lively energy reflects how much people are enjoying the experience. Service was friendly and helpful with suggestions. The owner even stopped by tables to check on guests. It's tucked inside an industrial park and may be a little tricky to find if you're unfamiliar with the area, but GPS and signage get you there without much trouble. Definitely worth the visit!

Polka, pasta, and pure joy!…read more We came to Rizzo's Malabar Inn for Polka Night, and let me tell you--it wasn't just dinner, it was a memory. The music was so beautiful it brought actual tears to my eyes, and my 84-year-old mother was absolutely glowing. Watching her smile, tap her foot, and soak in every note was something I'll never forget. The polka? Incredible. The food? Out of this world. Every bite was rich, comforting, and full of old-school Italian flavor. ‍ The service? Flawless. And then--Chef Bill Shockley appeared like a culinary angel. Not only is his food amazing (seriously, this man is a magician with a sauce), but he came to our table, made a fuss over my mother, and treated her like royalty. She was absolutely over the moon. THAT is customer service. Thank you for employing Bill--he is truly a gem, and his personal touch made our night unforgettable. Special shoutout as well to our fantastic server and to the two young ladies who helped me make a reservation for our party of 11. They treated me like family from the very first call--kind, accommodating, and full of that signature Rizzo's hospitality. This wasn't just a meal--it was an experience that fed our hearts as much as our bellies. We'll absolutely be back. And next time? I'm bringing dancing shoes and an even bigger appetite.

We have tried many times over the years to get to the new location, but it is so difficult. Especially when you have kids and family events, and have to plan two weeks ahead in order to get them to give a reservation. Be forewarned, make a reservation! You cannot just decide to go to dinner one night and choose Caporella's....at least we've never been able to. For our visit this time, we really liked the location. It is definitely beautiful. Our service was good, as well, while we were there. It was just the wife and I with our youngest, since she was a last minute add-on to our planned date night, and the server was great with her. Food wise, some things impressed, some did not. I do not feel the quality of what I had this time matched the stellar experiences I used to have at the old location. The price tag on few things, as well, didn't measure up. Let me explain. For appetizers: The Beans and Greens were still literally the BEST I have ever had in my life. Their version still stands for what I measure all others against. The Cheese Logs were good albeit crazy for the price, and breading was super heavy on them. For Soups: We had to try the French Onion Soup, as we always do anywhere. It was..eh. Reminded me of a beef vegetable soup with some onions thrown in. There was no depth to it like a stellar FOS would have. It reminded me of something that was just thrown together really quickly. For Dinners: I had the Chicken Parm. Chicken was good, but I really did not like the spaghetti sauce. I'm picky, and it probably is just "me". I don't like tomato-y canned tasting acidic marinara. The wife had their version of a Chicken Piccata, her usual go to, and hated it. She took it home, and I ate it for lunch the next day. It was very sour. Daughter had gnocchi, and liked it. For Desserts: A spumoni, which was great, and a Tiramisu. HATED THAT. I was under the impression it was going to be Tiramisu....not a dry as a bone tiramisu-flavored cake. Was the first time you would hear me say I was very thankful for getting such a small piece. Would NOT get again. Overall, I am not sure if I will be going out of my way to go back again for anything other than those Beans n' Greens. They really are amazing. But, for anything else, the price tag and what we received this time was not going to draw us back again vs. other options in the area, compounded with how difficult it is for us to get there with the reservation-must-have. It's good, but not THAT good.

When went with low to medium expectations and had that blown away as soon as Kameron made his intro never saying no to anything we were asking about. For our dinner we started with the crab special, gorgeous chunks of finished in a balsamic reduction. For my main, I had the walleye special and the fish was cooked to perfection very lightly breaded lightly fried, extremely moist, tender, and very tasty and beautifully plated against the side of vegetables. My wife had grilled chicken penne à la vodka that she absolutely loved. We were on such a good role and enjoying ourselves with our bottle of wine as well that we decided to order coffee sides with espresso and a lemon Raspberry cake that our surprise was so amazing.
