Having worn glasses for most of my life, I have had to deal with a great many opticians. As a result I was well-acquainted with the fact that many of them are either barely-competent, uninterested in their customers' needs, or simply content to push a very limited selection of ill-fitting frames upon their customers -- and often a combination of all three -- all while over-charging for the meagre service which one would receive from them. The staff at ROSHAD were the ones to change my opinion about opticians. I have now purchased two pairs of glasses from ROSHAD, and on both occasions found that their performance of their duties very much *sets* the bar which most other opticians do not bother trying to meet. ROSHAD's personnel are polished and professional without appearing to be so at first glance. While not as punk-rock in its branding as nearby RAPP optical, ROSHAD embraces a casual dress code and a laid-back appearance, making their staff far more comfortable to deal with than the up-tight stiffs whom one might see at a corporate chain. The attitude of ROSHAD is very much "casual, cooly competent" -- with the emphasis being on competent. The laid-back, friendly appearance is laid atop of a well-oiled machine. Proprietor Rhonda Shadlyn not only knows her inventory better than most individuals know their own dwellings, but has gone to some trouble to include items on her shelves which would not have even made it into the stock-rooms of most optician's shops -- large frames for those of us who take a XXL-sized hat, tiny frames for very young children, extremely-light-weight frames for those of us who never remove our spectacles, and all manner of things in between. The other sales staff know the inventory at least as well as Ms. Shadlyn and have a way of putting customers at ease regardless of how complicated their orders become -- I was in the unfortunate position of having complicated orders on both occasions when I dealt with them, and must report that they not only closed the sales, but untangled a mess consisting of lenses and frames from two separate (and uncooperative) manufacturers which most corporate opticians would have given up on while throwing me out of the store. As if to underscore how well they know their trade, ROSHAD's IT department knows ROSHAD's stock better than the salespeople at many other opticians know their own. On both of the occasions during which I had the pleasure of dealing with ROSHAD, I walked away with a far better pair of glasses than I had hoped for. ROSHAD is a bit more expensive than a corporate optical chain would be -- however the price is still a bargain for the far superior service, selection, and cumulative experience, than a corporate shop could ever hope to deliver. Felt it was time I wrote a review for this place as I've been a loyal customer for years. My family and I have been coming to Roshad since I can remember for everything from prescription glasses, sunglasses to even ski and swim goggles (yes, they sell those too!). My Dad has always been an avid swimmer and when his eyes started getting weaker with age he was afraid that he would have to stop swimming since his regular Speedo goggles weren't cutting it anymore. We came to Roshad and they were able to get him fitted with prescription swim goggles! (Who knew?) He was so incredibly happy and thankful to be able to keep doing what he loves. The staff are always incredibly friendly and bubbly. They are always happy to answer questions and are incredibly patient, making sure you feel confident with the pair of glasses you choose. As the reviewer below me noted, if for whatever reason you are not satisfied they will go above and beyond to make sure that you are. Whether it's getting a frame adjusted or repaired without hesitation. Furthermore, they are always up to date on the latest trends for frames and lenses, offering a comprehensive range of styles from inexpensive to more high-end. Their prices are also extremely competitive, as I often pop into other local shops to compare when I'm getting ready to purchase a new pair of glasses. No matter what, Rhonda and her staff always seem to give me the best deal. Hands down. I have been stopped countless times in restaurants, coffee shops or even on the street by people asking me where I bought my glasses. It's always a great compliment and I feel that it pays great testament to this wonder optical store! I happened to stop by the store to ask if they did eye exams there. Instead I had the most amazing experience, not only of incredible customer service, but of real kindness. I explained to Rhonda, the owner, that I had had an accident with a bungee cord and broke my frames. My eye suffered damage and it was too swollen for an eye exam, so I'd been walking around for weeks with the wrong prescription. I'd been suffering very bad headaches and nausea; I couldn't work and I couldn't really leave the neighbourhood (riding my bike and driving were out). She listened to my story and sent me home to get my lenses. She stayed late to help me, and she and her staff spent about half an hour searching through every frame they had in stock, until they found a pair that my old lenses could fit. She gave me a deep discount on the frames, and even called my old store to get my last prescription so she could adjust them properly. I doubt she made much, if any, money on the sale, especially after spending so much time helping me. And I wasn't even a prior customer, just a stranger coming in off the street. As soon as my eyes adjusted to the new glasses, the headaches and nausea disappeared. The store has a wonderful selection of attractive frames and the staff clearly know their stuff. If you want to support a local business run by a truly caring individual, I can't recommend Roshad Optical highly enough. read more

Roshad Optical ROCKS!! The staff there are awesome....great staff!! Anna Bella (I hope I spelled it correctly) and Andrew are fantastic...I feel like I've known them forever! I walked in and they immediately acknowledged my presence, beautiful. They know their stuff and I never felt any pressure to buy...ever, so relaxed. I purchased a pair or eyeglass frames last year from the owner and she was fabulous, she knew exactly what frames and colour would best suit me, I get compliments all the time. Thank you! I recently went in to change my exsisting sunglass frames to polorized frames and they gave me so many options, never got that elsewhere! Anna Bella and Andrew are fabulous. They're so patient and accomodating that I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else from now on. I'm not sure about these other two reviewers. I've had nothing but amazing experiences at Roshad. I have purchased four pairs of glasses there. I'm picky and serious about my glasses - I don't wear contacts, so choosing the right pair is very important to me. First of all, I love the selection. From the reserved to the funky! They really have something for everyone, and they have always been so helpful to me in finding the perfect pair. Secondly, although they are helpful, they are NEVER pushy. I always tell the staff my budget and they never show me anything that will be more expensive. In fact, on more than one occasion I have benefitted from a deal or a sale. Thirdly, they stand by their merchandise. I once brought my glasses back because of a chip, and they sent them back to be fixed without hesitation. I have had nothing but positive experiences at Roshad Optical, and I would recommend popping in and chatting with the friendly staff if you are in the market for new glasses. read more

I could not recommend Roshad Optical more highly. I have only ever had stellar service there, and have been extremely happy with all of my purchases. Our relationship goes back about five years now (two glasses purchases, two sunglasses purchases), and I have been impressed not just with the knowledgeable and helpful (and fun) staff, but also with the selection and the prices. They are very attentive, very responsive, willing to make small adjustments to new glasses, and a terrific second (or third) pair of eyes when you can't manage to drag someone out with you for a second opinion. It's nowhere near where I live, work, or hang out, but I make it a point to pay them a visit whenever I need a new pair of glasses. I have been buying glasses from Rhonda since her store was on Bay Street near Bloor. I always used to have trouble with the lenses because my prescription is pretty severe. Ever since I started going to Rhonda I never had any trouble. I do not trust anyone else to do my lenses. Her selection is also really great and I always find the perfect pair.
