I saw Dr Hazra and I was extremely impressed. I had some worrisome eye issues that came on suddenly and they were able to get me in same day. They have the latest technology in eye health testing including OCT testing, they did extensive tests on my eyes. She reviewed the results of my tests with me showing me up close photos of the health of my eyes, and discussed my medications and also offered to send a copy of the results to my Dr. She was very personable and friendly. In fact all the staff here are. It's also very clean and I felt very safe here during covid. Sure the price for an eye exam is a bit higher but is eye health something you want to skimp on? I will definitely rebook with Dr Hazra in the future. read more

Dr. Heeney and staff were helpful and accommodating the few times I have needed their services. She took time to explain things in a relaxed atmosphere. I bought glasses which I'm happy with. Another time I had something painfully caught in my eye after working on home renos, and they squeezed me in immediately. They pointed out that any emergency eye care was fully covered by OHIP so I was in and out in no time! Great selection of frames along with protective eyewear and goggles. It had been about 5 years since I had my eyes checked.This clinic is right around the corner from where I work so the location for me was a big sell. Then I came on here and the cheery on top was the reviews! I can honestly say I was not disappointed. I'm anal about being on time so I was there about 10 minutes early. I only waited to get tested approximately 3-5 minutes. While I was waiting, the dog Buttercup took a liking to me and curled up on my lap. She is a 12 year old TINY poodle who is very loving (though a bit skidish). The Good: 1. Staff. Very friendly, accommodating staff, which I noticed right from the time I booked. 2. Website. You are able to book your appointments online then they email you with a day and a time. It's great! 3. Buttercup. Who doesn't love a dog to cuddle with while you wait for the doctor? The Bad: 1. Temperature. It was quite warm in the office. (Honestly had such a hard time thinking of a negative). Recommendation: wait for Buttercup to come to you. read more

Dr Heeney is professional yet friendly and never makes me feel rushed. The glasses and contacts I ordered were ready very fast. She had me try out a new contact lens to see if it would help my hard to fit prescription and was eager to hear my feedback even when I told her I didn't like them. But the real reason I am giving 5 stars is for Buttercup, Dr Heeney's tiny little dog who is adorable and jumps on my lap in the waiting room because I always have dog treats (since I have 2 dogs of my own). Also Dr Heeney included a scan for free that my previous optometrist charged extra for! Location is also very transit friendly - either take the Queen streetcar and walk a block south or take the Spadina streetcar. This is my second visit here, my first being a few years ago. The process was as quick as it reasonably could be, considering my terrible, awful eyes, and everyone was very professional. Dr. Heeney is great. She answered my millions of questions about retinal detachment, wearing contacts while travelling to places where drinkable water doesn't flow from the taps and the best kind of frames to get when your glasses are literally as thick as pop bottles. As well, the whole process was pretty painless - they didn't do that terrible air puff thing or numb my eyeball and poke it with a stick (yes, that's a thing). The only complaint I would have is that I wish they had a closet for coats, or at the very least, pointed out the coat stand when I came in. I dislike coat racks, because they just all bundle the coats together and are usually pretty tall, and I'm not. But that's a personal thing that says absolutely nothing about their business, which is otherwise excellent. read more

It is very easy to book an appointment and every time I come in for a yearly check-up or to pick up my orders, I never have to wait longer than five minutes. The optometrists are very kind and knowledgeable, but the rest of the staff are also excellent. I have been a patient for four years and I have had no problems with them. I recently ordered contact lenses during the pandemic closure and Steven in particular went above and beyond to guide me through. Even after I had ordered, he was quick to respond to my inquiries when the shipment company didn't give me any delivery attempt notices. After a couple of weeks of shipment error, he was attentive and patient with my many emails and found another way to deliver it to me. This place has an amazing customer service! read more

For contact lens wearers: You can register online with Dr. Heeney's clinic and they automatically input what type of contact lenses you wear and the prescription. Next time you need new contacts, you can just place an order online and in about 1 week they will be delivered either to your home or you can pick them up at the clinic. Really excellent customer service from everyone who works there. My two sons (aged 10 and 13) were relaxed while they had their eye exams and my younger son even said it was "fun". I didn't believe him until it was my turn to have my eyes examined. He was right! Kristen makes it a fun experience, without any pressure, and informs and educates. Long story short - the team is amazing. I had to order new glasses during COVID because mine broke. So, they sent me the same frames and lens that I ordered last time. The issue was they kept falling off my face because I couldn't go in to get them adjusted (this is when everything was locked down). So, Steve set up a video call, and ran me through how to use a blow drier to heat them and adjust them so they fit properly. Disclaimer: My appointment was over a year ago, with Dr. Mann. I have neglected to write this review because I didnt think of it at the time! Dr. Mann seemed capable until we discussed Circle Lenses. Circle lenses are color contacts very popular in Asia, they are usually slightly larger then your actual iris and give the illusion of making your eyes bigger. They are extremely popular, worn by tens of thousands of women, including many celebrities and models in Asia. I was wearing them at the time, and Dr Mann suggested that I stop wearing them... why? "Because products from Asia are poor quality" This is downright ignorant and frankly kind of racist. I told her that I only used the highest quality brands and they are in fact approved by Health Canada, but she obviously didnt do her research and was willing to write off all Asian products as inferior quality... She wasnt convinced and kept tellng me to stop using them. I think this is lazy eye healthcare. If I want to use color contacts, she shouldve helped me do so, instead of telling me not to do it for stupid reasons. I will never return and it still makes me mad to this day. read more

I had never thought to use Yelp to find an optometrist but it turns out that it is useful for many things besides restaurants. Dr. Heeney is located downtown and is perfect for those who work or go to school in the area. Her office is open and stylish and has comfortable leather couches to sit on while you are waiting. It is a huge improvement on the waiting rooms of most doctors I have visited. In addition to the comfortable seating area, Dr. Heeney has an adorable little toy poodle named Buttercup that runs free throughout the office. In fact, she jumped up and sat on my girlfriend's lap while we were waiting. Once the appointment began, I was impressed by Dr. Heeney's assistants and the doctor herself. Everyone was incredibly courteous and easygoing and all seemed very confident in making a quick diagnosis of my problem. I looked at the equipment that she was using and it appeared to be very modern. When I was told I would need glasses, I was asked to look through the broad selection that they had available. With the help of my girlfriend, I quickly settled on a pair that I have been complimented on many times since I started wearing them. If I had such a great experience, why am I only giving Dr. Heeney four stars? One word - price. This place is very expensive for an optometrist, likely because of the rent that Dr. Heeney must pay to locate herself in the middle of downtown. While I understand that reality, it does not make it any easier to have to pay a decent portion of the expense out of pocket even though I have a decent health insurance policy. Despite this, I would be happy to return to Dr. Heeney. read more

I applied for an appointment via website over the holidays, and they emailed me back the next business day. I remember I had to call 5 minutes before my appointment to let them know I would be 10 minutes late, and they were totally cool with that. Dr. Heeney was not at all intimidating like most doctors are. She wore the cutest blue and red dress, and had funky gold and blue glasses to match the look. My appointment felt like a very casual meeting with friends. Their response time is great, the optometry is clean and modern, and staff + doctor are super friendly! Haven't been to get my eyes checked since 1990, so wasn't sure where to begin when picking the right optometrist in Toronto. Luckily there seemed to be an overwhelming love for this place according to Yelp, and we seemed to hit the nail on the head: this place is great. I was able to book an appointment through their website, which made things pretty simple for me. Got a confirmation email from an actual human, and I was good to go a week later. Walked in and filled out a quick form, had a seat on the couch and relaxed for a minute, and then it was off to my first round of tests. Eye technology has certainly come a long way since I was a little kid. I had two doctors for my tests, which were quick and painless. I even got to see a digital photo of the back of my eyes (which were perfectly healthy thankfully). Once all the testing was done I was given a prescription and then browsed the selection of reasonably-priced and stylish frames for men. Though I didn't buy any this particular day, I am most likely going to return to this location when I get some glasses. Everyone I dealt with was quite lovely and amazing. I felt at ease for the entire visit. And their location is only a few blocks from where I live. I highly recommend these guys. read more

The space has a great layout and is welcoming. The little dog that runs around is cute as well. Dr. Heeney is very passionate about her job. She recommended eye exercises to do to help with eye strain. Eye exam may be steep ($145), but is comprehensive. The reason I am giving 3 stars is because I wasn't given a contact lens prescription (just an eyeglass one though I wear contacts 99% of the time) and assumed I could use my eyeglass prescription to order contacts. $100 later, I got my contacts (not from this store) and they're the wrong prescription. Called Spadina Optometry and they said the two prescriptions were different. I was not told what my new contact prescription was even though I received a trail pair of contacts. Anyways long story short, turns out my prescription has not changed so I didn't even need to order new contacts. Here I am stuck with $100 worth of wrong contacts that I cannot return. Went here based on Michelle's review and was not disappointed at all! In my opinion, optometrists get a really short end of the health care stick -- they only see patients once every couple years (maybe yearly if they're lucky), OHIP doesn't cover examinations, and patients are as about as loyal as Toronto Raptors fans (not loyal at all!!!). I think they're highly under-appreciated in general. Dr. Heeney and her staff are WICKED! The office is very family friendly with a comfortable seating area (watch out for the dog!), good selection of designer glasses, and generally a good feeling overall. Behind the doors, she's all business...but speaks to you in an educated, yet comfortable manner. I highly recommend this place! read more

He's very patient and thorough during eye exams and always takes the time to answer my questions. I never feel rushed when I'm here. It's clear that he's genuinely interested in his field and that he cares about his patients. On top of that, the service here is friendly and efficient. I wanted to wait until after my follow-up appointment before giving Spadina Optometry a proper review. After my second visit, I feel very comfortable giving this office a solid 5-stars. I called them on a whim on a Friday, with a desire to update my eye prescription. It had been at least 7 (!) years since my last visit, and I was growing tired of reaching for my glasses so I could see things at a distance. They managed to fit me in for the following Monday (a mere two-day wait), and the morning appointment totally fit my schedule. The examination was very thorough. They scanned my old glasses to determine the prescription, took photos of my eyes, and did a variety of vision tests. I had my eyes diluted (you can choose not to) and the staff made me feel very comfortable and cared for. Princess Buttercup (the office dog) also made me feel very welcome and looked after. After determining my new prescription and talking about contacts, they made an appointment for me to come in the following Monday contact lens coaching. Once again, it was no problem to get a first-thing-in-the-morning appointment. Today I went in totally nervous having never worn contacts before. The staff once again made me feel very comfortable, and one of the girls sat with me and patiently waited as I tried time and time again to get the lens in and out of my eye. After she was satisfied with my progress, she had me sit down with Dr. Heeney once again to discuss how I was feeling about the lenses (as a first time wearer). She also imparted some warnings, tips, and tricks about wearing them. Before I left I was given a lens case and cleaning solution, and they made another appointment to follow-up in two weeks (to make sure I'm still happy). I can't recommend this place enough. The office is full of great staff who take the time to make you feel comfortable and at ease. Never once did I feel rushed or like I was getting in the way of other patients. The price was fine too. I paid $120 for the exam, which seems steep, but it was very comprehensive (and I won't have to have all the tests performed again the next time I go in). The contact lens coaching was $50, but that appears to have covered not only the coaching, but my first set of lenses as well. As a bonus, if you show an interest/ask nicely, they will totally e-mail you the pictures they take of your eyeballs. Too cool. read more

My MIL stopped by their shop to fix some glasses. She hadn't done her research prior and I have never even seen the shop before even though I drive back and forth on Spadina everyday. Really wanted to commend them on their excellent customer service (given to my MIL) and how they went above and beyond to help. Not surprised this place has excellent reviews. I bought my Chanel glasses at another store (didn't have the best experience) they never fit right and even though I took them to the store I purchased from many times for adjustments they never felt or looked right. As a last hope I walked into Spadina Optometry because it's close to my office. They were very friendly and welcoming right from the start. I explained my issue to them and right away they had a young lady who specializes in adjustments help me. She really knew her stuff! My glasses now fit and feel fantastic and I love them again. She took her time and it paid off. Since I didn't even buy my glasses here I wasn't expecting the service I got - which was fantastic. I will definitely be buying my next pair here. These guys are rock stars! I have gone here for a couple years, they have always been super efficient and professional. You can tell that everyone working there loves their job. I recently brought in a pair of glasses that were old, and the frames were essentially kaput. I pretty much needed new glasses but loved the frames I had. These guys searched out the frames and ordered them in for me. Legends. Plus!!!! Puppy points, it's worth a visit for the little puppy that works there too. A couple of years ago I was having trouble with my eyes. Unexplained pain which I thought might be eye strain (I'm stuck looking at a computer for too much of my day). I found Dr. Heeney on the internet and since she is close to where I work I decided to visit her. She really took the time to listen to my concerns and after a thorough assessment she assured me that there was nothing serious wrong. She gave me some advice about reducing eye strain, etc, which has been useful. I'm about due for another routine exam and I will definitely be booking with Dr. Heeney. The office is really nice, conveniently located and everyone's very friendly there. Just a piece of advice, when you do go remember to bring some sunglasses. If she puts those drops in your eyes for the exam, it's hard to keep your eyes open when you go out into the bright sunshine later! :) read more

I discovered this optometrist because she was referred to me by a nearby walk-in clinic... one of those "this optometrist is in walking distance; why don't you go there?" No regrets! She was awesome :) Now, seriously - am I just throwing the word "awesome" about too liberally? I mean, I'm talking about a bloody optometrist, here (not literally, of course). Those visits are suppose to be 'which is clearer? one or two', 'how much do I owe?', 'when I can pick them up and so on'. Well, the staff is great. When in the examining rooms, it's all business but with comfortable conversation. In the reception area and glasses frame display, they are so friendly and honest and a good group of people to be around. Plus, there's this really tiny morsel of a puppy hanging out behind the desk. SOLD! Picking out frames is harder than one would think, especially for the first time - the girls who work the desk gave me their honest opinion and were comfortable to joke around with making it feel like I was shopping with some old friends. Trust me, it's not as depressing as that last sentence came off. And Dr. Heeney is so comforting when it comes to sticking lights and objects near my eyeballs - if such a thing can exist. PS: I ended up getting frames that made me look and feel like Dana Scully from The X-Files. read more

I went in to my check-up and shortly after that I was at Toronto Western hospital having emergency eye surgery. They had diagnosed a problem which the hospital confirmed and which could have left me blind in one eye within days. They were fast, thorough, concerned, and I couldn't have asked for more. Plus everyone who works there is really nice!! Six stars. I'll never.go anywhere else. PS. And a few years ago, when I got my frames somewhere else their prices on lenses was about 20% cheaper. read more

They just WOULD NOT HELP ME. I don't understand. I came on a Saturday, and they wouldn't even acknowledge I entered the store. OK, so I emailed them and said, like, "Hey you guys were rude." They wrote back and agreed, that they were rude. I thought, alright, I'll try again. (I always email a business before I post a review, so they have a chance to correct their mistake) I went back during the week and this time, I *asked* for help, and GUESS WHAT! No surprise. NO HELP! They actually talked me OUT of receiving help, like, "No, you don't want us to help you." I think my mouth was just hanging open the whole time that even more staff are this rude at this location. Anyway, if you want to be ignored and treated like crap - this is the glasses place for you! They will only serve you if you are a patient of theirs, is what they told me, so I couldn't buy glasses unless I also gave them money to check my eyes (I have a prescription from my own eye doctor from May 2018). read more

I called to make an appointment about a certain matter, but had to deal with the receptionist casually mentioning that she'd just jot me down for an eye exam when I had never asked for one (as if it were free!) and not taking no for answer when I declined. She even went so far as to mention that it is especially necessary for me given my "health problems." Um, excuse me? Add to that, the last time I went in for an appointment, Dr. Heeney took incorrect measurements for my lenses, TWICE, and didn't make any hint of apology for the inconvenience whatsoever, choosing instead the route of protecting her own ego. The place itself is very nice and modern, and as others have mentioned the eye exam is indeed very thorough, but I will not be going back. Politeness actually still matters. read more

I've had a hard time with incorrectly configured progressives. The glasses forced me to crank my head back. My last place was unable to figure this out. Anyhow dr Wilkinson and Caitlin did a thorough exam. I ended up buying 2 pairs and both are perfect. I'm so grateful. Being unable to see at the computer where I make my living was really sucking. I came here last November to get a new pair of glasses. I ordered frame and lens. After one week or so, I received my new glasses. But the frame was very loose. I had no problem when I first tried the frame in the shop. The receptionist explained that it was because of the winter. Then she used some glass beads to warm up the temples and bended them. 1 day later, the frame became loose again. I went to the shop and they did the same thing to my glasses. But it became loose again the next day. I went to the shop again and asked to get a same frame of smaller size. The receptionist told me that the new frame and lens would be arrived within 2 weeks. 2 week later, I got an email that informed me that the company had the new frame on back order and they would inform me once they arrived. That was another 3 weeks of waiting time for the new frame and lens. I went to the shop the last time. The receptionist asked me if I wanted to change my frame. I tried some on and decided to get the same frame of smaller size. The frame fitted perfectly. After the lens were put into the new frame, the new frame became loose again. The receptionist used a machine to bend the front piece which changed the shape of the frame as a result. I was angry and the receptionist asked me why I did not change to a new style of frame when I had the choice. That's almost a one and half months of process to get a useless pair of glasses. I have to get a new pair somwhere else and I don't know what to do with this 500-dollar pair of glasses that I got from Spadina Optometry. read more

Good service. I went here because all of the sudden I had blurry vision for a while and was extremely sensitive to light. It turned out that it was an "ocular migraine", or a type of headache that causes disturbances in vision. The staff here are very nice and I was able to get an appointment within 1 day. The price is a bit high but reasonable considering the level of service (eye exams at opticians like Hakim cost less but include far fewer tests). read more
