His teaching technique corrected several bad habits I'd picked up from previous coaches. He taught me to properly maneuver my board, when to sit and relax, and to always LOOK UP! and focus on the coconut trees :D for direction. His exceptional intuition of the water made me feel completely safe so that I can focus on the things I can control and the skills I want to develop. Zach did really well listening to the kiddo and showing him how to be comfortable and have fun learning to surf. My teenager cousin and I also felt like we were in capable hands and had a lot of fun. We ended up having to spend about 10 minutes driving to another spot, where the waves were still very small. The lesson also consistently ended almost 10 minutes early to take photos, even though we never requested or asked for photos. I would much rather have that time used for actual instruction. More importantly, I did not feel that the instructor was paying close attention to the student. He often looked away from the student and seemed more focused on relaxing and looking down into the ocean rather than actively watching and teaching. There was also very little constructive instruction once we were in the water. Overall, the experience did not feel professional or worth the money. I would not recommend this surf lesson to others.

Everything we needed was provided, so all we had to do was show up ready to learn. Lawrence gave us clear, easy-to-follow instructions that made us feel comfortable and confident in the water. We caught a ton of waves, and Lawrence was incredibly patient and encouraging throughout the lesson. He even helped my fiancée paddle out since she's much smaller, which made a huge difference and showed how attentive he is to each student's individual needs. We had so much fun and can't wait to come back for another lesson with Lawrence and the North Shore Oahu Surf School. Highly recommend!

This was my first time for me to try surfing. So I had no prior knowledge or experience. But I…read morereally wanted to try surfing during this trip. I honestly thought the North Shore was just for surf superstars, and not for a beginner like me. But Steph really showed me otherwise. She taught me the basics of how to be on a board out on the shore. She was also reading the waves and watching the surroundings very carefully which made me feel safe. She even taught me about the local landmarks and culture while we're waiting for the waves. There was no downtime at all during the two hours of lesson. I ended up catching the waves quite a few times! I probably wouldn't have got this kind of experience if I went for a bigger surf school, or trying to take a class in crowed Waikiki beach. I feel very lucky to come across Steph and get a lesson from her. I definitely want to come back to the North Shore again and do more surfing on my next trip!

She kept asking to give it another shot, so I reached out to North Shore Surf Girls and they were so understanding and accommodating. From the very first minute of the lesson, I knew it was going to be a great experience. Amy offered really clear, gentle instruction and had my daughter up to her feet on the first wave. Lawrence was also super great with our son (who is only 3) and both kids were out there catching waves for the full hour having a blast. This was a 10/10 experience and I would highly recommend them as teachers, especially if you have young kids and are in need of a tandem lesson.

He was flexible and kind enough to fit me into his schedule within the next hour. He prepared three boards for me to use. Ash taught me things that I didn't even know, despite having surfed many times for many years. For example Ash taught me how to line myself up with a marker on the land, taught me how to paddle more efficiently, and how to turn in the water. Things that I didn't even know I could be doing better. Before even getting into the water, Ash was teaching me things to look at and watch out for from observing the ocean.
