Schools don't always offer continuous art classes. Knowing that my kids LOVE the arts, it was a blessing to find a teacher just starting up drawing classes. Better to know that its on the WEST SIDE! The class he is starting for now is drawing. My daughter has been able to attend the 4 sessions for drawing and she has learned a lot! Each class she has been excited to come and always leave with wanting to draw more. I wish she had the same enthusiasm for violin and homework. 1st session she was able to learn the basics and she actually completed a cartoon drawing on her own. The other sessions she learned exercises that have improved her technique. I love that she enjoys it so much that we will definitely be signing up for more! As of now it is just drawing class, but in the future he plans to teach watercolor and other art styles. As a note, the class is held on the second floor and is a shared office space on other days. Its small but able to fit a class of 4. Overall, Jeff is a great and talented teacher. He interacts well with all ages. My daughter is 9 and she loves coming to class. If you have an artist, no matter what age, this is the class for them!

We each made a 6in bowl and they came out perfect with Joel's assistance and we can't wait to glaze them! We learned a ton about pottery from Joel, but the only thing I wish we had was more time to play independently on the wheel. We never had a chance to play on the wheel without assistance, which kind of makes sense since you don't want the clay to go flying (we were total newbies) but it would've been nice to have assistance and then learn to work with it a bit on our own. Some helpful tips: - wear something you don't mind getting covered in clay in since it will splatter! But you can also bring a towel because they have a hose outside to rinse off. - Trim your nails! I have relatively short nails and even cut them beforehand but they still weren't short enough for certain portions so Joel had to take over completely (which is no biggie but I kind of wish I had just cut mine shorter) - Bring cash for payment - The studio is pretty deep in Wahiawa so might help to map it beforehand to double check drive time but we had no issue finding the actual studio and the neighborhood has plenty of parking. - You'll need two sessions: One for wheel throwing and the other for glazing (helpful to keep in mind if you're visiting) and then I'm pretty sure I'll need to stop by later to pick them up! All in all, great experience and definitely recommend! We made perfect bowls (which is pretty satisfying alone!) and my friend and I are already thinking imagining our new lives as professional potters!

On a positive note, we now have no shortage of Christmas and birthday presents. As mentioned, Mudd Studio offers wheel throwing and hand building workshops of various lengths (1 day, 3 day, etc.) They also offer studio membership. As a member, you have 24 hour access to the studio as well as use of the equipment, supplies, glazes, etc. My wife has never mentioned a negative thing about the place or people there - only that it is a positive, supportive and inspiring community. Its location in Chinatown (Smith Street) makes it a great addition to the local art scene. Support local businesses!

I could sit there forever...great place to meditate with art mixed in throughout the property...so aesthetic. No picture taking allowed of the art work. The garden has pottery pieces throughout which are art. Bonsai trees are blended in and art in itself. We try to make events of new upcoming island artists. We were greeted and asked to show our vaccination cards. Remember, it's up to a private business whether they want full COVID19 practice including mask wearing. paid for an easter hunt sponsored by this company and drove across the island to be there early for…read morecheckin. showed up and apparently other families that didnt pay helped themselves to baskets which resulted in missing baskets for families that DID pay. after i registered, no one really explained where to go or what to do next so we had to figure it out ourselves. they had to announce the shortage of baskets and the rules.. no running, no shoving, egg stealing,.. etc when they cut the kids loose, majority of them didnt follow ANY directions and snatched 10 eggs before others could even find one. i felt bad encouraging my kids to follow the rules since they found ONE between both of them and watched all the other kids who didnt follow rules have FULL baskets. they encouraged kids with over 10 eggs to give away to those who didnt.. honestly could have stated that in the rules from the beginning. "once you get X eggs, step out for others to find some". waste of money, time, my daughter was bummed. i would have asked for a refund but we just wanted to leave before the disappointment set in further.

I showed him the posts and he told me to sign him up right away. You have to register and pay online through their site. The Art and Tech Sunday Day Camp is perfect for our schedule. The hours are from 9AM-4PM. You can do full or half day. We need a little rest on Sunday's so the 1PM-4PM works out well for us. I'm glad I left a little earlier from Kaneohe to find their location. GPS takes you right there but there is on signage for OAT. I didn't know it was upstairs from all the restaurants. I called the number they have listed on yelp and they let us know to go up stairs. Two of the teachers greeted us at the door. They showed us around and explained what they were going to learn. His first art lesson was with Andy Lee. He is an artist for Marvel, Dragon Ball Z, etc. He was teaching Chinese brush strokes. My son jumped right in and started using the brush. After 2 hours of Art class he went to Tech class where he learned to make a vacuum out of a water bottle , card board and batteries. Yesterday day was his 2nd Sunday and he learned 3D pen art and how to construct a mini elevator/lift. He loves everything about OAT. They also give them a little time to play with big building blocks and robotic toys. He wants me to leave him there from 9AM-4PM so he can learn more. Maybe next session. I'm glad I found this place!!! I'll keep updating and posting vids and pics.
