Let me confess something. I have lived in Lorain County for 25 years, and somehow I never tried Rosie's. My aunt lived right across the street and still ordered Marco's or Little Caesars every time. So naturally, for two decades, I just assumed Rosie's must not be anything special. I was so wrong. When you walk inside, the first thing that greets you is a framed newspaper clipping about Rosie herself. Ninety years old, making pizzas longer than most of us have been alive, crowned as the Pizza Queen and longest-running pizza maker in America. Judging by the article, I'd guess it was published around 2004, since Rosie passed away in 2007 at the age of 93. May she rest in peace, and may her legendary recipe live on through the family who still runs the place today, keeping it in the family. Walking in, I instantly understood why this place has been operating longer than most of us have been around. No cashless world, no touchscreen kiosk, no apps, no nonsense. Cash only. A building that looks exactly the same as the year it was built. The same old-school menu board that probably hasn't moved since it was hung, only the prices have changed. No cheesy bread, no wings, no subs, no "new limited time only" sides trying to distract you. Just pizza. The way pizza was meant to be. And then came the first bite. I swear I felt like I got hit with a nostalgia flashbang. My brain immediately pulled up memories I didn't even know were archived. It tasted like the pizza we grew up with before everything turned into commercialized cardboard covered in grease and marketing budgets. This was simple. This was pure. This was time machine pizza. There is something about Rosie's that a picture can't ever show. The flavor is different. The feeling is different. You take a bite and suddenly you remember being a kid, running around after school, when Friday night pizza actually meant something. My taste buds felt like they were being rebooted by a memory I didn't know existed, delivered courtesy of a cardboard box and a place that refuses to change in the best possible way. Rosie's didn't just serve me pizza. They served me nostalgia wrapped in cheese, baked in time, and sliced into something you cannot understand until you try it yourself. Serving the BEST pizza in the world! That's right...I said it. Generations of my family have grown up eating Rosie's Pizza. It once had a community vibe. You would go inside to pick-up your pizza and they would ask how each member of your family were doing. It no longer has that community vibe since the matriarch, Rosie, and her daughters have passed. Nevertheless the less, I must get a Rosie's Pizza when I visit my hometown of Lorain, OH (also hometown of Nobel Prize winner Toni Morrison). I order one side pepperoni and one side sausage. The sausage has a nice kick of spice that's not too spicy. From the crust to the sauce to the toppings-the pizza is soooo good. The recipe slightly changed since my childhood, but it's still hands down the best pizza in the world and I've tried many other styles of pizza. They only accept cash. I wish they would change with the current times and accept at least debit cards. It's a carryout only restaurant. Those seats are only for waiting on your carryout...lol. The customer service could be warmer from the grandson as he's very cold & scripted ("Rosie's. How can I help you? Number? 20 minutes.") I have been enjoying Rosie's pizza since I was growing up in Lorain in 80s and 90s. Now I live a few hundred miles away but I make it a point to get some Rosie's whenever I'm in town visiting family. The only thing about Rosie's that ever disappoints is where they are closed. It's my all time favorite pizza. Their recipe is so unique but also delicious and consistent. It's hard to describe it actually. You just have to try it. I always get one pie with extra cheese and another with extra cheese and double pepperoni. So glad they've kept it going all these years. This is my favorite pizza place in the Cleveland Area. I actually grew up near this place. This place buys as much of the items locally as possible, and prepares the dough fresh daily. You have to get there early for the pie though, when they sell the number of pizzas they determine for the day; they close. And the demand is great! The pizzas are round with a raised crust. None of the thin crust/ multi cross cut pizzas like in the major chains. Still owned by the same family as when I was a kid. Rosie's pizza is delicious. The crust was not doughy and baked just right. The pizza sauce is on the sweeter side but has a hint of black pepper which gives the flavoring of the pizza a nice kick! The cheese makes this pizza outstanding. It's is not stringy and tastes delicious. I wish it would stick to the crust more. The toppings are generous. Overall, great taste. The size of the large pizza was definitely on the smaller side for the price you pay. The taste of the pizza made up for the lack size. This pizza is my favorite. They cover the pizza in lots of toppings. My family grew up in Lorain . I live near Cleveland now but when I am in the area I will always try to grab a pizza. Now I have to say Rosie's son or grandson(I am not sure)who now runs the place is never in a nice or polite mood but I love the pizza so I still go even though you would think someone who runs a shop would at least smile and treat customers nicely. If you like mushrooms, the pie will be covered, the sauce is tasty (sometimes a little spicy). If in the area grab a pie. The place is a little run down and needs some upkeep as it looks like it has not been updated in probably 20 or more years but the pizza is great. They are in the stone ages though as They also only take cash no credit cards (even though every other mom and pop shop, fast food restaurant etc take credit cards). 5 stars for the pizza (1 star for the atmosphere and crappy attitude but it's a carry out joint in Lorain so I don't judge the restaurant on that unless I dine in). read more

The pizza is spectacular!.. the crust is delicious, the toppings are generous, the sauce is fantastic. The problem is the people who answer the phone. The first time I called there, very abruptly the phone was answered "Rosies". I started asking some questions, and between all the sighing and sarcastic answers I then I advised I had never ordered there before and saw them online. I explained I lived in this area my whole life but never tried her pizza. Suddenly she was very helpful. Answered all my questions, and while that experience left me with a bitter taste in my mouth (LOL) once I ate the pizza I was willing to overlook. The NEXT time I called a male answered the phone with the same abruptness. I said I want to order the special - 2 small pizzas 2 toppings 15.00. I said pineapple bacon and black olive mushroom. Next thing I hear is "name". I said the name,SMITH. I spelled it. He said "Hughes" .. I said no SMITH - S M I TH. Then he said "Holmes". I again spelled S M I T H. He sad OK and hung up. No thank you. No time frame. No confirmation of the order. Nothing. So not knowing how long and basing it solely on the last time I went there, I figured 40 - 45 minutes. I walked in and walked up to the counter. He didnt say hello, hi, how ya doing kiss my a**... nothing. Just looked at me. So I said Im here for a pick up under SMITH. He says 18.50. I said oh, I thought the special was 2 for 15. He said you got a pepperoni pineapple ham and a black olive mushroom. I said no, I never said pepperoni. Since I only had brought 15 with me (cash only) I said hold on and ill go to the ATM and get more (this pizza was already made and my hunny was taking it to work for dinner, I didnt have the time to have another one made. He likes pepperoni so I figured Ill just pay for it) He then got nasty and fine Ill just take it off but you said pepperoni. I dont know where he got pepperoni out if pineapple, maybe cuz they both start with P ...? I was MORE than willing to get more cash, and as I turned around to go back out he said " Just give me the 15.00" So I did. Not knowing what their hours are we tried once more on June 30. Saturday night. I called for an order at 9 pm - we were in the area and figured we would grab one on the way home. No answer. The phone just rang and rang. No machine. No answer. Nothing. Rather early for a Saturday night, at least I thought so. All that being said, the food is delicious. The people. Horrible. If you dont mind the attitude and rudeness and complete lack of people skills, you will LOVE the pizza. I however, do not enjoy the attitude and rudeness and will find another local pizza joint that acts like they want my business. Sorry Rosies. You have a good thing. Three tries for me.
