It was pure luck that I found the Co-op for my daughter! But boy was I lucky! The Roslyn Cooperative Day School is arguably the best preschool on Long Island. It is a special place that truly understands child development. The school's focus is on social-emotional development and learning through play. Lindi Nubel, the director is one-of-a-kind. Her care and concern for the children and the program are beyond words. Each week, she writes a newsletter for parents chock full of articles and research on best parenting practices. Lindi runs the school so efficiently; there are protocols for everything! And these protocols keep the children so very safe! The teachers who are at the Co-op are mostly seasoned teachers who have spent 20+ years with the school. The way they talk to the students is amazing! They are so skilled. Phrases like, "Listen to your body, it will tell you how much to eat" and "everyone's body is the right body for them" demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of child development. They know how to foster self-regulation and self-acceptance in children. These are the building blocks for not only for school success but for lifelong positive mental health! Since the school is a cooperative, parent involvement is required. Each child's parent participates in a "special day" in the classroom each month. Consequently, every school day there are two teachers and a parent in the classroom. This allows for a great child:adult ratio. During your special day, you bring in a healthy snack to share with the students. You are encouraged to go beyond that by sharing a special skill or activity with the students as well. This time in the classroom is cherished by the Co-op parents! You will never have this opportunity in K-12. Parents are also required to participate on a committee (e.g., class mom, merchandising, mom's night out fundraiser, playground) and assist twice a year in a school clean up. (For those who are unable to contribute their time, they can pay to opt out.) The emphasis on parental involvement fosters a true community of invested families who firmly believe in the Co-op's philosophy and mission. The Co-op is truly a unique place where you get to be part of an amazing community of parents and teachers. I am forever grateful for the opportunity the school has given me to be a part of my children's first school experience. I always knew participation days were special, but I realized it even more so after my oldest child went to Kindergarten and I was no longer aware of all that goes on in the classroom. It is such a special time (while they're still little!) to be able to share with them. Being present in their class throughout the year gave me the insight to how they're growing in their social environment, and even gave me some great parenting tools as I listened to how the teachers speak to the children. I've definitely become a better parent after spending more and more time at this school! The teachers are amazing in their ability to guide the children on how to interact with each other socially and to resolve conflict. They are taught how to use their words and express their feelings to one another, something that is so important for our children to be learning at this age! The amount of resources available at this school to grow and learn with your child is amazing and I couldn't be happier. My kids are always excited for school as well as their enrichment programs. They're currently in the STEAM enrichment class, which they look forward to every week. The teachers put together very thoughtful projects and experiments, while challenging the children to think outside the box and come up with their own ideas about how things work. The outdoor and indoor playgrounds are amazing, and give the children exposure to many different types of play. I appreciate how they go outside throughout the whole school year, even if it's a little chilly, as they recognize the importance of outdoor play during all the seasons. The Roslyn Co-op is truly an extraordinary place that instills independence, confidence, and a love of learning into all of its students. The play-based curriculum does a remarkable job of engaging students and preparing them for kindergarten by giving them the critical academic and social skills they need. In addition, the children are also given many opportunities to develop fine and gross motor skills in the most creative and inventive ways. Students at the Roslyn Co-op are happy and enthusiastic, and are undoubtedly in a safe, secure, and loving environment within the walls of the school. As an educator myself, I am thoroughly impressed with the professionalism, dedication, and expertise of the wonderful staff. The teachers are experts in early childhood education and speak to the students in the most respectful and nurturing way. The curriculum is highly creative and hands on -pretend play, art, cooking, gardening, yoga, dance, woodworking, science experiments, and nature exploration are some of the many ways that the school actively engages the students' natural curiosity and creativity. Furthermore, the great communication I had with my child's teachers has given me so much invaluable insight into what makes her unique so that I can be a better parent too. Now that my daughter has started Kindergarten, I am truly grateful that she attended the Roslyn Co-op. Not only was she well prepared academically for the next step, but she had the opportunity to develop social skills, and her creative thinking, both of which are incredibly important for her future success in life. We feel very lucky to have found the Co-Op for our child. When researching schools, we were keen on allowing our child further socialization in a 3s program, and a wonderful, supportive preschool. We have found that and more. The teachers and staff always amaze us with their thoughtful, caring and intelligent approach to helping each child truly thrive. The fact that thereafter teacher makes a home visit before the start of the school year was so exciting for our little one. She could not wait to get to school, and it has been the same way ever since. The schedule has worked perfectly for us. As parents who both work full-time we share the participation "special day" schedule and each of us is in the classroom every other month. It's a special time and we learn so much ourselves seeing our child interact in the classroom and on the Indoor and outdoor playgrounds. Our child has attended Lunch Bunch and Cooking as well as Gardening Enrichment classes. She loves them and learned so much. She has thrived in the yoga and Ailey Dance programs in her classroom. We've done Summer Camp and the half days give her great joy. This is a wonderful, play-based first school experience for our child and us! read more

As a teacher and mother of four, I would like to think I know a lot about children and education. Yet every time I participate in the coop and get a chance to see the teachers at work, I walk away learning something new. When we moved from the city and toured the coop I was impressed with the children's work, the teachers, and of course both the indoor and outdoor playgrounds (a rarity in the city). However, the more time I spent in the school, the more convinced I felt I had made the best choice for my family. My children were not sitting in front of bright and shiny screens all day while doing worksheets in the name of kindergarten prep. Instead they were playing, drawing, jumping. And while play is emphasized, teachers weave whole units such as the Arctic, marine life, and community, just to name a few. My children have left the school with an interest in bird watching and recycling. What they learned they have taken with them for years to come. And in fact, they have been more than well prepared for Kindergarten. My youngest is now in the coop, and he beams as he enters the building. From the time I met the Director of the school at a preschool fair, I had a good feeling about the Co-op. Their developmentally appropriate program, which provides a perfect balance of structure and learning through play, was the right fit for our family. When I toured the warm and welcoming facility, with its fantastic indoor play space for cold or rainy days, and its large and shaded outdoor playground, I was struck by how no other school in the area offers comparable spaces. However, the most impressive thing about the school is the wonderful relationship between the teachers and the students. Not a day goes by that I do not utter a phrase or use a parenting strategy that I learned from the staff. I am a better parent because of the things I learned from them and I will be forever grateful to the Co-op for giving my children such a positive first school experience and helping them develop a life-long love of learning. read more

I am so happy with the experience and education my two children have received at the Co-op! The environment is warm, welcoming, and nurturing. The manner in which they handle parent-child separation is fantastic and unlike anything I have seen at other schools. I cannot say enough to praise the developmentally sensitive, creative and innovative preschool programs offered at the Co-op. The director and teachers are attentive, warm, approachable, smart, experienced, and exceptionally aware of the emotional and learning needs of preschoolers. We began this school year with a child who had serious separation issues, and no other program in our entire county came close to providing the safe, nurturing environment that the Co-op provides. The Roslyn Trinity Coop is a wonderful place to introduce your child to all the years they will be spending in school. Warm, caring and nurturing are the first few words that come to mind. My son loves going to school and I love knowing that he is learning so much in the best of hands. All the children in my family attend or have attended the Roslyn Trinity Coop day School, including me 30 years ago. The school is warm and inviting. The children learn using a hands on, developmental approach.....no dittos, no inappropriate handwriting lessons or computer games that are sold as education. My daughter has developed a tremendous love for learning and exploring both inside and outside the classroom. My three children have had an amazing start in education at the Co-Op. The teachers are incredible in the way they teach the children to resolve conflict and become inquisitive students. My older two children have been very well prepared for Kindergarten. I can see that my third child is prepared to take off as well. They don't have time to teach social skills in Kindergarten anymore so this foundation they receive at the Co-Op is important. I have made wonderful friends here as have my kids. read more

I found out about this school through word of mouth and after touring it I knew it was the right fit for my child. I wanted a place with no computers or iPads - rather one that focused on the fundamentals of learning. Building, sharing, figuring things out, respect for others and for our planet. I took multiple tours at various nursery schools, and after the Roslyn Co-op tour I was sold. I knew this was the right school for my son, and I was eager to get my application in to secure his spot! Roslyn trinity has made it so easy for my son to be able to separate starting the 3's class. The teachers are the most caring bunch I have ever met. Also the director takes the time to get to know all the families by name. The best decision I ever made was put my child in this great school.
