They don't ever want to return items from other Ross stores. They almost always send you back to the other store. They can even have the same item on the self at the same price, you can have the receipt and they'll make some claim or another, from the sole has some dirt on it, if you have ever shopped a Ross store you know there isn't a much dirtier store open and operating, at least not another chain store, and about 1/2 of their shoes have dust marks or dirt smudges; or they'll say we don't do our tags that way, in reference to other formats other than the standard pre-printed tags: I have gotten printed while I wait tags from various little small/portable printers, hand written tags on a blank Ross tag, and blank tags with nothing but ROSS printed at the top, it varies depending on the store and how busy they are or what equipment is on hand. I don't know what the corporation rules are, but I know these experienced people have seen tags of all kinds in various stores, as I'm only a shopper and I have seen all sorts. It's just one of their many excuses not to return an item onto their balance sheet. I can only guess the store manager/s get bonus's based on their bottom lines and returns reduce that number so they decline every chance they get! I can tell you this behavior has greatly decreased my Ross shopping. I have gotten store credits for several hundred dollars because I couldn't make it to the other store before the 30 day return window. So when this happens I refuse to spend any money at Ross for at least 30days. I take my shopping budget to Burlington, or The Rack or TJ Max instead. The more I shop at these other stores the less business Ross gets from me, If I go into one of these others because of the issues described above, I find I just keep going to them instead to avoid the Ross drama read more

Awful customer service. Won't be back. Cashier, apparently one of the assistant managers, became rude after I was excited to see so many high quality wallets. There wasn't anyone behind me in line so I looked through some and picked one out. She became very rude, basically scolding me for shopping at the expense of her time. I told her she was out of line and she repeated it back to me. This didn't stop. I purchased items and tried shipping again after complaining about her to management but she still works there and I won't be back until she's gone. read more

I was shopping and needed to use the restroom. I asked the cashier and she says oh not working maybe. I seen another employee and asked her and she points to the front sitting rooms. I tell her I don't need to try anything. I wanted to make sure she understood me so I said it in English and Spanish and she says I know and keeps walking. I was confused and continued to shop. I hear on the speaker that a customer needs to be let into the restroom I followed and hear the same employee say. They don't want us to let customers use the restroom. I was mad and asked the front desk why I wasn't allowed to go and they said nothing including the manager that was ringing someone up. I left my shopping cart and walked out. It's ROSS, not Bloomingdales, so there's really no point in having unrealistic expectations. This store is no frills, but if you're willing to spend the time hunting, you can find some great deals in home essentials and clothing. Last year I found a Columbia puffy jacket for $25, and recently I snagged some KitchenAid utensils for $3.99ea. They also tend to have luggage and seasonal items for a good price. Occasionally they'll have high end items in the glass case or on a rack at the front of the store. I've seen mixed reviews on their customer service, but I've always found the staff to be friendly. I was standing in line to exchange an item at "customer service " line. Needed to return and exchange and thought this was the only line I could do this. No customers were in other line for sales. The woman in the customer service consul did not acknowledge me for several minutes. She left kiosk after 10 minutes, and went to regular cashier line and yelled "next!"....still ignoring me. Meanwhile regular line now had several customers waiting. I asked if I was in right line, and she said no. I said I'd been waiting a long time and she snapped angrily, "well, so has everyone else!". Then she waved me over angerly. I offered to stand in other line, but she looked really angry. She put on what felt like false angry politeness. The people behind me looked at me sympathetically. It felt like deja vu. About three years ago after writing the first bad review ever and boycotting the Ross in Marin City for the longest time it happened again. I wanted to return an unworn cardigan with tags and valid receipt and the cashier swished it around her table picking up dirt and stated "used". WTH? Same with a dress I had even hanging in the car to not get it wrinkled. Because I made a fuss she went to call the manager and seemed to have gotten an ok, because she started ringing the items up. Each item was bought on a different day and had a different receipt checked by me and paired up. Suddenly she claimed that the cardigan was not on the receipt. With her swirling my clothes back and forth it had just disappeared. Now I had a bunch of people waiting behind me. Stress factor x10! I I went to the side and started looking again. Nothing. Of course you start questioning yourself and I thought maybe I left it in the car after all (not). On my way out I passed the back of her check-out station and see how she crumples very fast a receipt into a little ball and puts it in her trash basket. Soooo bad! I was at Ross last night (01/11/2021) and the young man "Keith" who was wearing the "Loss Prevention" vest approached me from behind and passed me, turning around to tell me "You have two spiders on your back." In disbelief, I asked if it was so and he said "...two giant spiders", all the while with a deadpan expression. He added "I can help you get them off." I felt my back then proceeded to take off my jacket and shake it out...of course, no spiders were found. The young man then walked off. I asked for the manager who was on lunch. As I waited for the manager, I saw this young man and confronted him to let him know that I was going to report it to his manager. He acted as if he had done nothing. When his manager arrived, I explained the situation and she said "He won't do it again." Really? He shouldn't have done it in the first place. This is someone who is given the "authority" to make judgments about customers but this is a demonstration of his judgement? I contacted corporate Ross to make a formal complaint. They handled the matter well, but ultimately, this young man has no business working with the public if he thinks his behavior was in any way appropriate. read more

I stopped in to their Marin City location (plenty of free parking here, btw!). I strolled through the store and within minutes I found a few decorative candlesticks, a turquoise tea kettle, and a few other cool tchotchkes. And it was all for less than $30! Whether you're in the market for kitchenware, home accents, or cheap jeans & shoes, Ross has got you covered. BTW, they also offer a variety of affordable exercise/yoga gear (I got a medicine ball here for less than $10!). Once again, Ross came to my rescue. This happen at Ross of Marin City 5/11/19 The lady Than who was working in the floor today was upset she doesn't like to work with customers we ask her to open the restroom she said she was busy but the customers really need to use the restroom, I went and talk to the cashier she told me that Than is the only one who can open the door to the restroom because she is the person in charge I felt sorry for the customer who really need it the bathroom. This Ross should have a "Time-out" spot for adults. I believe the manager missed his calling as a drill sergeant. The manager openly reprimanded me, and 3 other shoppers during our 45 minute visit. He just yelled across the store for you to stop doing, whatever it was that you were doing wrong. Could my kids have behaved better, yes. My apologies. I bought a pair of jeans there three weeks ago for $36. Was excited about it. About two weeks in, I was wearing them for maybe the second time. Sitting at a bar and my friend noticed a tear in the crotch seam of the jeans. The tear had become slightly bigger by the end of the night. Main point: This should not happen with brand new jeans that I have worn twice and have been mostly strolling and sitting in. Come on. Took the jeans back today with the receipt. Told the cashier the situation and I say I would like to return them. Cashier gets manager. Manager says that Ross does not accept any returns for used items. I say, well the item was clearly defective. Doesn't matter to him. I say, well I clearly am not to blame for this. It's not like I took a knife to them or ran a marathon in them. Doesn't matter to him. He proceeds to speak to me in a condescending tone, repeating the same point over and over as if I don't understand English. Then I say, well what about a store credit then. He then again repeats that they cannot accept returns of used items. He says, the most I can offer you is a 20-25% discount for your next purchase. Gee, thanks. He ends up offering me only 20% (when, let's be honest, he could easily have given me like a 50% discount for my next purchase). Overall, it was amazingly bad customer service. Rude and condescending, and does not take any responsibility whatsoever for selling someone a defective product (which of course they did not know at the time, but when that becomes apparent, you figure out a way to compensate that person in some relatively fair way). He just could not have cared less. Kind of a joke, at the end of the day. Very disappointing. Product (laundry container) broke on first use. I found the original wrapping including the Ross price sticker (but not the sales slip) and took it back to the store. They would only give me store credit, not money, because I didn't have the sales slip. I didn't want store credit so I just left, never to return. This Ross store is consistently the worst in Marin and beyond-- by far. Their inventory is never fully stocked to the point that it always looks like they might be going out of business, they have the poorest selection of any Ross in Marin, the one woman named Stacy is shockingly abusive and has no business working with people, period. Actually none of the employees are very pleasant at all, except for Leah, a manager, who is the kindest, most professional and genuinely wonderful person, although I haven't seen her there for some time. Near closing time they, even the managers (except never Leah) become extremely rude and impatient even though your cart contains $300 worth of merchandise. It's a very poorly run location with no supervision over its employees who sadly represent the company name. It is a horrible stain on the Ross name and reputation. I purchased a suitcase from here on 10/23/12. Exactly 30 days after, I took it on it's maiden voyage. When I retrieved my suitcase from the carousel of my destination the retractable handle would not go up. I was away for 2 weeks before I returned home. I brought it back to the store and they wouldn't give me a refund. Only a stupid voucher. The manager, Miguel, was a real piece of work. He said the suitcase was used and according to store policy they cannot refund me. Of course it was used...ONCE! Idiot! Stick to clothing when shopping at these cheapo stores. They do not stand by the quality of their merchandise. And make sure you use it before 30 days to see if it's defective. Otherwise you are on your own. During christmas season I got sick after using their bathroom. I told the staff that their bathroom was discusting and that I was going to call the health department. Two bad experiences with the same cashier in one week! Bought a bunch of stuff last Tuesday at Novato including expensive super 80 adidas shoes. The next !! day I drove to the Ross in Marin City to return them. First the line problem. Standing on the return line for a while the cashier woman suddenly said one line only. When it was finally my turn I explained because of the make of the shoes the price tag was attached to the security string and the cashier in Novato had just put it in the shoe. The cashier sighed loudly and said "these shoes" and inspected them for the longest time. I finally asked if something was wrong. When she finally gave me my refund and crossed out the WRONG item on the receipt, I felt like I wanted to cheat the store out of something. Today I tried to return another item from the same receipt - less then a week after buying it! Same cashier. This time she said the jacket was used even though I bought less then a week ago and had never worn it. She said I had to go to Novato to return it. Never heard of that before (24+years Ross shopping) and when I asked to speak with a supervisor (never did that before) she claimed the supervisor would only be there the next day. Terrible customer service! I went to try to return some items I bought a week ago. I stood in line and when I got to one of the cashiers, I explained to the cashier that I did not have the receipt and had purchased the items a week before. The other cashier shouted "I'll help you here" and made me move to her register, she then said that she could not take my items back because there was no proof I had purchased the items although I had the price tags intact! She insinuated that I had stolen the items. I just took the items back to my car and luckily found the receipt. I went back and she had gone to lunch, another associate helped me (who was nice) and returned my items. I asked the name of the person that "helped" me before and he said her name is Stacy and she's the manager. I will contact the district manager since some people (reviews below) have experienced poor customer service and it's probably from this woman. I am not going to go to this Ross location again, I hope this review affects their sales for future customers since we are giving them business and she should perhaps learn to treat people nicely. read more
