The place is so quaint and nicely situated by the Marina area. The owner/bookstore staff is friendly and nice. There's quite a selection of books and good reads. They also sell some used books. I also noticed a selection of sweaters/jumpers and kitchen items for a reasonable price. I love this bookstore. read more

This is a very peaceful and unique book shop. The inside is very well organized and has every book sorted out by the different genres. They had various home items, valentines décor, cards, gift options, and souvenirs. The kid section was super cute and had different stuffed animals, toys, and books. The view is very pretty as you can see out towards the boats / yachts. We didn't interact with the lady working and she didn't say anything to us either. Went in looking for a local coffee table book. Heard the two associates complaining that tourists come into their store looking and don't buy anything and went on and on about how mad they get at tourists. It was very off putting ( as a local) Decided to set my potential purchases down and leave. read more

Such a cute bookstore to visit in Sausalito! Tons of books to choose from (and very well-organized by genre). I love going through recommended staff pucks, and there were plenty there as well. Rude guy working at the cashier. The tall one with glasses. Can't even say hello and tried to avoid eye contact. Oh and we were the only customers in there at this time :) I really wanted to roam / buy things with comfortable atmosphere but left kinda confused and questionable if it had anything to do w my race. read more

What a lovely book store sitting near the Yacht Harbor. The staff here is incredibly kind and helpful, and they have wonderful suggestions for your next read. I (woc) went to the bookstore a couple of weeks ago and the person at the cash register (the one wearing glasses) coincidentally kept cleaning/moving books around near me when I was browsing the store. I asked if the store carried books in Spanish and the answer was, 'we only carry Isabel Allende's books in Spanish because she has an office nearby' (otherwise they would not have any). I like to stop at the Sausalito book store when I am in town. After the pandemic I made a point to help support Sausalito businesses by shopping there. I went to the Sausalito Bookstore never to be greeted (totally unlike other Sausalito businesses that are always welcoming). Twice when I went last week the woman working there never bothered to say hello, thank you OR asked if I needed help. If I didn't need another book to read I would never have stopped there a second time. It is important for business owners to help customers feel welcome when one is helping to support them. At this point I am not sure I'll ever shop their again. read more

Sausalito Books by the Bay is by far the best bookstore I've ever been to! It is absolutely delightful to wander around and enjoy the incredible collection they have! Evan is a wealth of knowledge about all things literary. You can sit in their comfy chairs by the water and enjoy looking through maritime books, children's books, nature books, non-fiction books, etc. I highly recommend this bookstore. read more

A fantastic shop! This store houses so many books with recommendations from staff on a variety of genres. Walked out with 3 books and had 3 ordered with the store for free shipping to my home address. A great service! There are also a ton of other goods here ranging from small business curations of home goods, lotions, oils, candles, and so much more. I wish I lived in Sausalito. This is a delightful, colorful, welcoming bookstore with free parking right on the water. We were there for a reading by one of my favorite authors. We arrived early. The locals were coming in and out, engaged in conversation with the owner. We were taking it all in. Books were mixed in with beautiful cards and other knicknacks by local artists, totes and hats, all beautifully and tastefully displayed. Yet the focus was still books. To me, this store was just the right size. It invites wandering without being overwhelming. The displays and the tasteful colors draw you in. You have your local books, your best sellers, a section for children and young adults with appropriately sized chairs and plenty of books for wherever your interests lie. If I lived on this side of the bay, I could easily see myself coming here....alot! I like this bookstore. read more

What the heck?!?!! How did I not know about this little gem?? I can down to support my buddies Rob Badger and Nita Winters (nature photographers, authors, conservationists and exceptional peeps). They turned me onto this little corner of deliciousness, good options in what interests me (nature) as well as a good variety of other subjects. the book store is the absolute best book store in all of Marin. the staff knows so much about what they sell. they give the best recommendations and cater to the people that come in. the store is nothing like the big box stores where everything is the same. you can never leave without at least one book. My partner and I moved to Sausalito last year and decided to check out the store when we saw some interesting books in the storefront (including some local books and books about Chinese New Year traditions). We headed in and appreciated the nice local feeling and curated books. We bought a kids book for our friends vowed to come back. Fast forward and amidst our shelter in place, we ventured to see if they were around. It looks like they are doing curbside delivery, free home delivery and free shipping. We plan to order somethings to support them. Please consider doing so as well if you can! For being a new bookstore, I imagine this is a tough time and they'd appreciate the extra support. read more
