The dressing room attendant informed me that their store has a policy that allows a customer seeking to try things on only a one time access to the dressing room. The staff were polite however I would not recommend this store if you are seeking to purchase multiple items. With all the different brands that come into this type of discount store, it's a must for me to try things on. The attendant let me slide this time so I was able to try on and purchase the 14 items I found. Overall, It seems absurd to limit how many times a customer can go into the dressing room. They already limit you to a max of 8 items to take into the dressing room, and have you hang up the items when you return from the dressing room. The manager informed that they needed this policy to allow their staff to leave on time at the end of the day (even though leaving the store I noted it was only 2 pm). read more

My wife, sister-in-law, and I were heading to a house we rented and needed to get some bedding. We stopped to pick up some pillows, blankets, and other items we may need to feel at home. The deals and prices were perfect for what we needed, especially since it was emergency shopping we were doing. The service matched the prices. The saying, "You get what you pay for..." rings true, but I was not expecting much. If you live here then you may have other options with better service but higher prices. I was wearing my prescription sunglasses while inside of the store. The Loss Prevention Security Guard (short old man) was on the main entrance door checking customers receipts before leaving the store. But l could sense that he's looking at me suspiciously while l was pushing the cart. I went to the fitting room to try some clothes on. It was only the lady store clerk that was there before l went inside. But when l got out, l saw the guard outside of the fitting room busy with his phone. When he saw me leaving the fitting room, he went back to the main entrance door. Because of the bad vibes that l felt, l decided to leave, putting the shopping cart back and clothes without buying anything. l overheard the Loss Prevention Security Guard talking to someone on his Security Earpiece and saying, "OK. Copy. Thank you!", while looking at me while leaving the store. Never in my entire life have encountered this kind of situation. I won't ever be recommending this place to anyone! read more

Had the most interesting experience I was shopping with my 8 month old and mother when I realized the manager was keeping an eye on us. When we approached the register she stood in front of them until we paid and then she left. Was it because my diaper bad looked suspicious? I shop all Ross everywhere. They are a budget store so don't expect great customer service because the company caint afford to hire lots of employees to man the cash registers unless people are willing to pay more. I have been in Hawaii where the lines have stretched all the way to the back wall. That's why I go early when they open or go later in the evening. Everyone is so quick to judge the employees but it's the customers that are creating the f*** mess. If you want a clean and pretty store with extremely happy and smiling employees, put shit back where you got it. I am one of those people who LOVE to take my shopping cart and slowly go up and down each and every aisle, searching for hidden treasures and things I didn't know I needed. Ross is absolutely one of the best places to do that while also getting a great deal. I've scored All-Clad cookware items, Franciscan dinnerware pieces, and a type of Polish pottery that I currently collect. I've shopped at several Ross stores and while most all could use some improvement in the organization and cleanliness department, the Watsonville store is the worst. There is merchandise scattered on the floor in every dept and the floors and shelves are filthy. The women's clothing is mostly poor quality and hardly ever in size order. The shoe dept is horrendous, mostly smaller sizes, and good luck trying to find a matching pair of anything. And don't even get me started about the towel & bedding dept, the store is total chaos! I've never had an issue with rude employees but it is clear that many of them do not enjoy their job. Of course, if I had to work in the conditions they do, I'd be pretty grim-faced myself. The store is overrun with groups of mostly unsupervised children literally running up and down the aisles, tearing items off the shelves, knocking over displays, screaming and yelling out. I get a headache just thinking about it. And forget shopping on Sunday, it's like a ghetto flea market (complete with the type of music that goes along with it) and the lines wind all the way to the back of the store. As the second person to review this Ross, and as a Ross fanatic, I've taken in all considerations before I wrote this review. I felt that this Ross has what it takes to earn my 4 stars. First off, glad they don't have carpet floors, some Ross' do. Second, yeah for the newer dressing rooms...I hate the curtain changing rooms (Stockton & Pacifica). Third, this place is huge and not crowded. I felt like I could shop without someone being right on top of me. Overall, I really liked the Watsonville Ross. While I was there I purchased a new swimsuit, eco mug and flip flops for $32. Not a bad deal. My minus one star is for the lack of line organization. They didn't have a rope system for people to stand in line. I was confused where to make my purchase? Hope that they fix this issue soon. read more

absolutely the worst customer service... a Ross Employee did not remove a security tag on a $15 item. Upon returning to the store they accuse me of stealing the item... the $15 item... Me the thief then returns to the store to ask them to do the job they should have done... No they have to check the security cameras and they will get back to me. So apparently all customers are thieves. I went to get the tag removed from this $15 item because I am a super bold guy and can get away with that. AT ROSS.... THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS A THIEF... A busy store in the busiest part of the town of Watsonville. There aren't a whole lot of retail stores in Watsonville so you can imagine how busy it gets here seeing as it is the number one shopping center in Watsonville. As with all busy shopping centers, parking is an issue and can be very difficult to find. However when I intend on shopping at Ross, I have the most luck parking closer to the FoodMaxx grocery store. As soon as you walk into Ross you are usually greeted right away by a security guard. To your immediate right is where they store the shopping carts as well as the women's shoe section. Since this store has opened up, I have been lucky enough to find a few good pairs of shoes here. I have found everything from good pairs of running shoes to cute high heels. Most of the shoes I've found have been no more than $40 which is reasonable for a good pair of name brand shoes. Further down, past the shoe section, is where they keep the toiletries, such as beauty supplies, beauty aids, and makeup cases. This is also the area where you will find women's scarves, and belts. You are getting the hint now that the right, front side of the store is where they keep the women's fashion accessories. Also near this area is where they keep the women's wallets and women's handbags. Most of the time the handbags and purses are separated by color. Their jewelry section and perfume section is located near the line you stand in if you are returning merchandise. I rarely bother checking out their locked glass cases of jewelry and perfumes because there is not much of a selection. Plus it is such a hassle trying to find someone to open the cases for you! The middle of the store is where they have rows and rows of clothing. All dedicated to women's fashion for all sizes. The very back wall is where the restrooms and dressing rooms are. They also store the items you can hang on the wall like artwork, mirrors, and other wall hanging home décor items along the back wall of the store. Before the very back wall they have rows and rows of housewares like pots and pans, kitchen utensils and gadgets, pet supplies, auto care, and home organization supplies. Basically most home décor is located right in front of the dressing room areas. Kids clothing is also towards the back of the store on your right. Along with a small section of toys and kids shoes. The linens and bed and bathroom items are on the back left side of the building. Along with some home organization items such as baskets, etc. Men's clothing is on the left side of the building as well. Right near the cash registers is where they keep phone accessories, luggage, suitcases, duffle bags, and backpacks. The gourmet snacks are usually placed strategically near where the line to check out forms to entice you to buy them while you wait in a ridiculously long checkout line. Despite the volume of business, the store is kept in reasonably good shape. It is pretty organized with lots of great deals. Some decent furniture mixed in as well. Usually the furniture is in the center of the store after the women's clothing section. Nothing big, just mostly end tables and small furniture. Be warned that the restroom is gross, very dirty, and not very well maintained and stocked. The dressing rooms could use better ventilation. Be prepared to breathe in an unfortunate whiff of body order when you walk into a dressing room. The atmosphere of the dressing room is made even more unpleasant by the usually not-very-friendly, older lady manning the dressing rooms. My biggest qualm about this store is the checkout. It always seems like there are not enough cashiers available. They really should have at least four cashiers. If you intend on going here, expect a long wait. In a rush, then this is not the place for you to make a quick purchase. It is not a place where you can come to grab an item and leave quickly. There are no 15 items or less lines. The wait is usually 20 minutes or more. Because this a discount store you usually have to dig to find an item you are looking for. Keeping in mind how busy the store is, the staff is generally okay. You can tell they at times get a bit frazzled by the long line but they are trying their best. To help prevent delays, there is a section at the checkout line where you can hang up the hangers for the clothing items you wish to purchase. Do everyone a favor and if the item you are about to pay for doesn't have a price tag, ask anyone but the cashier because that slows everyone else down. Discount stores like this usually have a clientele that doesn't care about how they handle the merchandise so keep this in mind. I have been to Ross stores where clothing was all over the ground and shoes were scattered all over the floor. Unfortunately the clientele are rude. I had a young man cut in front of me in line today. Discount prices clearly equate to discounted attitudes. If you can handle the hassle and rudeness for good deals then this is the place for you! read more

I am one of those customers that don't like to judge the staff because I know how hard it could be dealing with customer service issues. But this girl Angelina Garcia as a super visor to say that store computer issues is not her problem. She is mistaken. She needs to be couch with proper custom service. This is the worst experience I've ever had. And please make sure your computers are up to date. I showed them my bank statement showing the full charge as acct. #2024 and receipt said #1308. I don't know where computer came up with that #. I don't have a card with that #. I'm assuming because I use Apple Pay that could be the problem. But that girl didn't want to see or hear anything. I was just at my local Ross store, at about 4:25pm I noticed a strong chemical smell, that got worse as I was in the store. It smelled like spray paint. Low and behold it was spray paint; Two workers were SPRAY PAINTING a whole isle worth of shelves, not only in the store on a busy Saturday(anytime would be bad) but they also did not have any kind of respiratiors on. I ended up having to leave without finishing shopping, or even making my purchases. I left with a horrible headache, the smell was OVERWHELMING, and I don't even have any kind of chemical sensitivities. I cannot believe this was something that anyone would think is safe and acceptable. This is a clear violation of OSHA laws and regulations. I now consider this Ross to be an UNSAFE place to shop. I will be contacting OSHA on Monday, this is TOTALLY unacceptable. read more

Just home from another disappointment and frustrating time at the Ross store. Upon waking into the store, I see about 15 people in line and two cashiers open, one for returns only. I walk around for 45 minutes and choose three items and proceed to the registers. There are now 20 people in line and still, only two cash registers open. This is ALWAYS the case in this store!!! WHY???? The customer service is SO poor, consistently. The isles are so crowded with stock racks that customers can't get through and the employees walk around with attitudes of total disgust. I asked if they had another cashier and what i assumed was a manager sauntered over to a empty register and took her sweet time logging in. Once again, I left my stuff with the security guard, explaining why i was leaving, and walked out. There is NOTHING in that store that makes it worth my time to put up with that kind of service, or the lack thereof. NO EXCUSE, this manager should be fired as she is obviously incompetent. I have fond memories of going to this Ross Dress For Less in Watsonville many times as a teenager because when my parents would shop at the Albertson's next door going into Ross Dress For Less was such a treat for me because I always loved buying myself a new purse or clothing and each time Mom and I went into this Ross Dress For Less it was always fun to see what new stuff was added and from then on every time we visited Watsonville stopping at Ross Dress For Less was a treat that became a tradition for me and Mom. And this Ross location is so cool and always has a friendly staff to help you with anything you need. Rarely I have no problems whatsoever with Ross Dress For Less because the deals are so amazing and they have every brand you can name from Guess to Tommy Hilfiger all at great prices and if you love stores like Marshall's and Burlington Coat Factory give Ross Dress For Less a try and you will become very happy read more

This Ross isn't the best, but i've never walked in to a clean, organized Ross. They have really great deals, cute stuff. I prefer the one in Capitola but this one is ok. Also, the fitting room people asking you to bring out the clothes you don't want and to hang them is part of their job. The cashiers in Santa Cruz and Capitola stores do not repeatedly tell customers to take the hangers off of the items they are purchasing. Why do the cashiers in Watsonville continuously tell us? The average was once to twice a minute. There are racks with signs provided for us, their actions are not necessary and it is poor customer service. Nightmare! Got about $400 worth of stuff and had to wait like 40 minutes in line just to be rung up. I attempted to pay with a check because I just ordered a new atm card and my check wouldn't go through. I run back home, get money to pay, go back and wait in line for about 30 minutes, when it is finally my turn and I get to pay for my stuff sitting at the customer service desk. Suddenly an older Hispanic lady (appears to be the manager) tells me to go get in line again!! I do so and customers were nice enough to notice that I had already waited a long time in the customer service line so they let me get in front of them. The older Hispanic lady in a very rude voice and in Spanish says "I told you to wait in line!! " A customer stands up for me and says "she waited for a long time already so we let her get in front." Finally they attempt to bring up my purchase which they allegedly had saved but it doesn't come up. Did they offer to ring me up again? no they didn't, instead the employee who was at the customer service line looked extremely frustrated, along with the older Hispanic "manager" and I finally say "you know what- I can spend my $400 somewhere else!" Ross make it very-very hard to return anything. First, the return sign is waist level. After making the purchase line they direct you to this retuned line that wasn't even visible. Then only 1 person is available to help you and, of course does not have the approval code...needs to call the manager that always walk away... this for all returns. I spent more than 20 minutes in 3 returns in front if me. Forget about this place, go to other store or do not buy at Ross, will make your life way easier. read more

The experience was so depressing! My husband took me to Seascape Resort for a few days as a little "get away". I needed to pick up some jeans and a bathing suit and so went to Ross in Watsonville. I took a few items in to the dressing room and picked out what I wanted to buy. As I was walking to the cash register the dressing room attendant said "Hey! Where are the rest of the clothes you tried on?" I told her that they were in the dressing room. "Well, you're supposed to hang them up!" She answered. I let her know that I didn't work there and was, in fact, on vacation and walked up to the cash register to pay for my clothes. She followed me out and while I was paying for my clothes, she spoke with security. When I finished my transaction and started to leave, she, and security stopped me. She said that I didn't bring the clothes I tried on back to the front and detained me while everyone watched. I asked one of the other customers to call the police. I asked to speak with the manager, who came up after about 20 mins, apoligized and gave me a discount on the clothing that I had purchased. It was a case of "shopping while black". I am a 60 year old, university instructor, small business owner, mother and I'm sure that my white peers are not hassled and detained as shoplifters. YUK! read more

Worst customer service ever, especially from a manager!!!! I have always been a fan of Ross mainly bc you get good deals on a lot of things (I know it isn't your Nordstrom or anything like that), but my experience tonight was appalling. I went into the store after a long stressful day at work along with some personal things that were going on. So I guess you can say... I was having one of THOSE days. So I went into Ross to get some retail therapy. I didn't have anything specific in mind, I just wanted to browse. About 15 minutes of me looking around jumping from different sections, this worker (apparantly the mgr) asks me how I was and asked if i needed help with anything. I told her I was fine and that I was just browsing. She replied "oh, browsing huh" (with a snarky attitude) . I ignored the ignorant comment and proceeded to continue looking around. I began to notice that this mgr kept following me, looking me up and down watching my every move. Now I just came straight from work so I was still dressed in my business casual attire with work phone in hand and my big Guess bag. But none-the-less, she kept eyeing my every move. to the point where she was standing next to me "pretending to hang clothes" it got pretty annoying pretty quick. Then from two aisles over (still watching me) I hear her say to another worker... "idk... she said she's just browsing...right.... Just browsing. .. but how can we know...." I'm thinking... um... what? Do we have an issue here? But being an adult, I ignored the comment. So I picked up 1 dress to try on and purposely held it high and away from my bag so "little crazy nut job" mgr won't think anything of it. I go to the fitting room and already the lady working the fitting room tensed up and shot a look at her mgr who was standing behind me. (I'm sure news travels fast on their walkie talkies). I try on my dress and come out of the fitting room and guess who is standing right there waiting for me??? Good Ole manly looking mgr stalker!! How wonderful it is to have a waiting audience. -_- she looked right at me and shot the fakest, "hi!". Ignored her once again but shot her a glare. At that moment I had to make a work call so I spent the next several minutes on the phone all the while being followed by not only her but two of her minions. Taking turns looking at me and back at her. If you're gonna stalk me at least do it discreetly. After my phone call I stood in the empty aisle way to type a quick email. During my phone conversation I had managed to find a cute top which I had in hand. While in the aisle I hear old hag mgr tell her little followers, "she's waiting for us to make the move, it's okay I have all day honey. I can stand here for 8 hours and watch you." ( minions laugh). wow.... really??? So after trying on my top and finally ready to get out of there I proceed to the line and wow.... i know have a little paparazzi group waiting to see my next move. Before me I now have the wrinkled faced stalker mgr, her two minions, the security guard and the two cashiers all looking at me. They keep shooting looks back and forth to each other, to me, and back to the mgr. Other customers are now looking at me because of the all stupid looks that staff shoots towards me. By this time I've had it. I walk up to the stage five clinger mgr and my exact words: "I need to say something. I am appalled at how I'm being treated here. I'm going to pay for this shirt I have in my hand, but I DO NOT appreciate being followed around the store like some criminal. I am an honest citizen and I have no problem you searching me or my bag. You have made my shopping experience such an uncomfortable one!" She then LIED to me saying "oh, we weren't watching you, we were watching someone near you" "Yeah right! If you didn't notice I was all alone shopping and no one around me the entire time! So how can you say you're watching someone else" paranoid mgr: "right I did see you alone, but I'm sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable, but it wasn't you we were watching.". LIAR!!!!!!! She then tried to make up for it by moving me to the front of the line since I stepped out to talk to her. No thanks lady, don't need your "special treatment" . I stayed in the back of the line. She then radioed my cashier to apply a discount. Oh gee thanks. Thanks for the $1.50 off. Maybe you should save the money and invest in some customer service skills for your employees and perhaps for yourself. Maybe there's a self help class for paranoid stalkers. All this just because I was alone, carried a BIG handbag and said I was browsing..... I get that profiling happens and I know full and well what the job entails (my brother in law does it) but those snarky comments to try to intimidate someone while shopping is unprofessional especially from the mgr.i believe her name is BRENDA. read more

Lorena was working in the fitting room and as I was leaving, I attempted to hand her my unwanted clothing and hangers. Instead of taking the stuff I didnt want, she pointed to the metal T-stand and said, "Does it look like I have hands?". Wow....really?! I said, "it's your job to take my clothes, I see you have hands, dont you work here." And, in not so many words, said it wasnt her job, I had my own hands, and basically, go f**k myself. I immediately asked to speak to the manager and told her what happened. I understand that I was at Ross and not Nordstrom, but seriously, in this day and age, when jobs are hard to come by, employees shouldnt take their aggression or unsatisifaction of their own life, out on customers. After reading this review before me I thought I would say that I had problems with the same person! I tried my stuff on and brought my stuff back out and put the ones that were on hangers on the rack and then draped a pair of pants over the rack (the pants didn't have a hanger when I brought them to try on) and then put two empty hangers on the rack to the two pairs of pants in my arms that I was going to get. In the mean time the pair of pants that I had draped over the rack fell off and knocked a few things off as they came down. I said "oops sorry" and picked them up and she goes " that's why you're supposed to hang the stuff back up!" in the meanest and rudest voice ever. So I said " these pants didn't have a hanger and I'm getting these two pairs of pants" and walked away. She made me not want to buy my pants and made me not want to go back in there. I know a typical Ross isn't clean or nice or pleasant, but when you have 4 employees standing around and only one on register it's like who the hell is hiring? There were 4 checkers as I walked up to the line and as I made my place in line, 3 employees walk away! Minus 5 stars for the staff member Delia. I don't go into Ross often, I'm too disorganized and easily distracted to find the hidden bargains. The Watsonville Ross store often smells like human waste, the lines are hopelessly long. Last night though, I needed a pair of jeans. I was staying in Seascape Resort as a birthday treat and didn't bring any long pants. At about 8:30pm, I dashed into the store and found some things to try on. When I approached the fitting room I could see that I had distressed the clerk. It was almost closing time and I didn't represent business to her, I represented more work. I know this because later on she tried to get me to do her job. She had sort of a sneer on her face and counted my clothes twice before she gave me the numbered card which was supposed to indicate how many outfits I was trying on. The clerk's name was Delia, and she was in such a nasty mood that I gave her a meek smile and asked her how she was doing, She sneered and her "vibe" was so nasty that I said a little prayer while trying on my outfits. I decided to buy two pair of pants and walked out to hand the numbered card back to Delia. She told me that I was supposed to bring back the all the clothes on hangers. I'm sure that she forgot that I was a customer and not a coworker, so I frowned at her and told her I'd be back. I went up front and paid for my pants and as I was about to leave the store, I was confronted, again ,by Delia. She stood in front of me blocking my way and said something about me leaving the clothes in the room. It slowly dawned on me that she thought I was a thief and asked me to stand by while she called security. Because I was wearing shorts and a sleeveless top, I loudly offered suggestions on where she could search for the stolen items. Mortified, I stood there while she called security.Then I sat while security called a manager. Since all this calling was going on, I called her a bigot and asked security to call the police so I could go back to my hotel unmolested. Delia disappeared. The manager finally rushed up and apologized. Grabbing my bag and receipt, she gave me a 25% discount and said that she would take some sort of disciplinary action against Delia. She also asked me to phone "Jeff", the day manager, and report the incident to him. That little trip to Ross exposed me to both the best and the worst of customer service. Truthfully, that manager should be working in a place that would offer some upward mobility and limit her exposure and need to interact with people like Delia. I'm not saying that because she gave me a discount, I'm saying that because she instinctively knew how horrible the experience was for me as a customer. Today, I phoned and left a message for "Jeff". i love to shop at ross!!!! and the only down fall is the line but its worth standing in line, always have great deals

This Ross is HORRIBLE. When I first entered the store I quickly noticed how UNORGANIZED the store is, no greetings from the employees.. just from the security ( if that even counts). Then throughout youre whole shopping experience you hear screaming mothers and crying kids, for goodness sakes please take your bad parenting else where. Clothes, garbage, and lots of dust was all over the floor. I felt like the place hasn't had a thorough cleaning in MONTHS. I was not too impressed with their product variety either.. everything looked cheap. The shoe section was crowed, no place to sit and try on shoes.. I HAD TO SIT ON THE FILTHY FLOOR TO TRY ON A PAIR OF SHOES. I found a pair of shoes for a reasonable price and i wanted to leave the store as quick as possible.. away from the stench and filth into the fresh breezy air of Watsonville. While walking up to the register (yes that is singular) all I could see was a large line all the way back to the clothing section. The line wait has dreadful. Numerous times I wanted just to leave the shoes and go home, but I ended up sticking it out. The line took 45 mins, 45 mins i would never get back. And to top off this GREAT experience (satire intended) the cashier was very rude, no hellos, no thank you, and no "i'm very sorry ma'am for the wait in my stinky dirty store" NONE. If you could drive a little farther to Capitola Marshall's I thnk that is your best bet, I would never reccomend this store to anyone. read more
