I'm taking a crowler of the Salted Caramel Lager with me. Bright corner store front taps are inviting and clean, although the new concrete bar surface, finished with bees wax, needs to be stripped of the grime that has accumulated near the edge of the bar.

They really wanted the grand opening to be special and, for that day, were waiving the growler fee and even giving a free glass with each growler! Uncle Leo's "home" is a beautiful country-esque building with a nice sign; it really fits in well with the surroundings. When we got there, there was a long line-up, proving the point that craft beer is not just an urban thing but that foks in more rural areas are catching on to good beer! For now, they produce two beers, a red ale and an IPA, with the help of famed beer guru Greg Nash. Both beers are fantastic, although my taste buds prefer hoppier types like the IPA. As IPAs go, this one is somewhat tame, with beautiful floral notes with a touch of bitterness from the hops. A really good IPA for nice summer days. Let's hope their beers make their way into many pubs and restaurants!

Not to mention a great little menu that is affordable, yummy, and accommodating to many dietary needs like vegan or GF. 1911 is in the basement of an old jail and has an artsy eclectic vibe, low key mood, and kind of fun speakeasy energy to it. The service is very friendly (albeit can be a tad slow in busy hours) but always with a smile. Great hours open M-Th 8am -9pm, F 8am -10pm, Sat 9am-10pm, Sun 9am-8pm so they really do it all from cozy breakfast vibes, to grabbing an afternoon study and coffee session, down to happy hour and dinner or a late night date. The coffee is delicious and on par price with most coffee shops ranging from $2.25 for a small drip to $4+ for latte or handcrafted drink like macchiato or cappuccino. They serve local PEI teas from Lady Baker Teas and the rotating local craft beer always has a selection for everyone from sours and stouts to IPA and light ales. The food menu is not big but it is creative and will definitely have something to entertain your tastebuds. While serving sizes are not big, the price is on point for what you are ordering, anything from appetizers and finger food like hummus bowls, nachos, and dumplings to sandwich's and wraps or Mac & cheese and burrito style bowls twisted with vegetarian and/or GF fusion like cashew coconut cream cheese or sweet and spicy Dijon spread. For a distillery with so many awards, I was quite surprised that nothing here appealed to me. I love vodka and gin and I personally couldn't figure out the quality here. We opted for tasting flights which come with a complimentary cocktail. The price is a little steep at $15 a paddle. The shot glasses as tacky plastic cups on a sad little board. You get a ¼ oz shot per cup and the complimentary drink is basically virgin. The mojito that came with the board came with one little leaf of mint and a whole lotta water. I was completely disappointed and didn't expect to not even be able to drink any of the samples completely. The other downside of this place is the set up of the outdoor sitting area. It wasn't well thought through. You have to exit the rear of the distillery and go around to the front of the building on slanted gravel to the 'patio'. Not one umbrella can be found at the picnic benches. The gravel is large and loose so it's a hazard to carry your drinks so far - even if you're sober! The staff seemed to want to be helpful but admitted they were short-staffed and she was the only one working on the long-weekend Sunday so she seemed exhausted. We asked a few questions but she seemed rushed with the line of people behind us. We asked about their beer on tap (from Half Cocked Brewing) and where the brewery was and she told us it was 10 minutes down the road. We asked if they're open and she said they're open every day. The brewery is about 30 minutes down the road and when we showed up, it was closed. No hours were posted anywhere. We were a little annoyed since we didn't have service and couldn't find it on a map. Lastly, there are NO SIGNS for this place at all. The only sign is one that faces the road so you notice it when you've already driven past the place. There are no signs on any of the buildings so unless you know exactly where you're going, you're sure to pass it. There is a food truck on site, but we didn't even bother with that. We left our samples and drink after chatting with a few other patrons who also couldn't believe that the alcohol was terrible. I don't often give poor reviews, but I honestly can't figure out how this place is still open. The taproom is small but organized with a lot of product. The location overlooking the ocean is really the only plus here so I'd say skip this place because it's not for someone who enjoys quality vodka and gin.

The inside is far more inviting with great seating options and a nice bar top to sit at. We were lucky to stop in when the owners were working who were very friendly and told us their story. The flights are super affordable and the beer was quite good. They also have a few other local options of cider and 0% drinks. A fun little fact about this place is that they do a book club and anyone can sign up. Truly a great little spot and worth stopping in.
