Likely the best spot on the island to get some really great brews in a really cool location at the top of a hill along the river. It's easy to miss if you're going quick up the hill but it's directly across the old post office that's now a town museum. The beers are excellent with lots to choose from and despite not having their own food menu, the eats from the food truck on site was really great. The place was empty when we got there right at opening but it didn't take long at all to fill up. No table service so just get up to the bar to order and serve yourself. Staff were super friendly and let you sample a few things if you couldn't decide.

Tasty brews, good views & delicious hand pies!

There was…read moreonly one other customer in the place at the time, a pair of travelers who looked like they were camping out. This is basically a beach shack where people spending some time on the beach can go for a bite to eat... however, the menu is pretty substantial, and there are a lot of good items on it to try if you are in the area. We weren't all that hungry, but we knew that we needed something to tide us over for the afternoon until supper rolled around, so we ordered a pair of their Oktoberfest Sausages which are served on a hoagie bun and sauerkraut. These absolutely hit the spot! The sauerkraut ratio was perfect, something that Americans just can't seem to get right (they always seem to overdo it... sauerkraut on a hot dog or sausage should be used as a taste enhancement, not as something to drown out everything else!) We left feeling quite fulfilled, and were happy that they were open and able to serve us with something so tasty.

Arrived at 6:30 and they close at 8:00pm. My wife order the salmon roll and I had the fish cakes. Both were outstanding. For a beach bar these people have got a good thing going and congrats to the kitchen staff for creating some quality food.

While looking for a quick lunch on a sunny Saturday, I was right behind a few other people who just got their food as I was ordering, putting me at the front of the queue. Owner and sole staff member Donna guided me through the highlights of her menu and I settled on the hamburger platter. Several minutes of wonderfully pleasant chit chat with Donna followed while I watched her prepare my food like a well-oiled machine. My food was soon ready, coming tightly packed on a heaped paper plate for me to eat in my car, although you can get it secured for a trip home or elsewhere. The crinkle cut fries, while unsurprisingly from a bag, were spot on, with shatteringly crisp exteriors and light, fluffy interiors. The burger was diner-style par excellence - steamed bun; a beefy, hand-made, griddle-cooked patty; melty cheese; sauteed onions, and some bite from mustard and relish. I should have nixed the ketchup to dial back the sweetness, but this was still a great little burger. A cup of house-made coleslaw was of the creamy variety, but still had a bit of tang to it, which helped cut through the rich meal a little bit. On my return visit, I went with the fish and chips. While it's a box that a lot of restaurants feel they have to check, and they do so poorly with from-frozen, pre-battered fish, I heard that Donna batters it in-house, so I was looking forward to trying it. This was a very good order of F&C. The batter was light and airy, and the two-piece was a good amount of food, with the pieces like the half filets that you'll see around, rather than the one gargantuan piece of fish that pubs often have for shock value. The fish was firm, but tender and flakey and I don't know if tartar sauce was forgotten or isn't offered, but I truly just enjoyed the fish on its own. Ceilidh Drive-In is among a dying breed of old school greasy spoons that do the simple stuff well, and while it took me a while to get there, it won't be long before I'm back.
