When the representative called with the quote, he spent more time trying to upsell me on their annual maintenance package than actually discussing the job. I eventually had to cut him off just to end the call. On top of that, I received seven automated follow-up text messages that I had to unsubscribe from. I called Roth for electrical help. The technician came and he was fine. But he spent about 1.5 hours at my house troubleshooting a few outlets that did not have power. He also installed a GFCI outlet (inexpensive part). At the end, he handed me an invoice for $883! Seriously? A part I could get from Home Depot for $25 and 1.5 hours of work. I asked him what his hourly rate was and he just said that Roth quotes jobs and does not provide a breakout between parts and labor. I paid him but told him I was very dissatisfied with the price. I then called Roth to express my dismay and asked the person to have a Roth manager to call me back to explain. The person said I would get a call back but never did. What makes me even more disappointed is that in the last 3 months, I have purchased a new HVAC system from Roth and new water heater. So after all the business I have given them, I feel like they are taking advantage of me with such a charge on a relatively simple job. If someone at Ross wants to call me and explain how they came to this price and why it makes sense, I am happy to have that discussion but right now I have a very bad taste in my mouth. read more

Three strikes. He's Out. Hard to trust an AC tech who first blames closed vents, which weren't closed. Then blames the thermostat, because he didn't install it. Then blames the filter because, and I quote, "It's Black." Funny, it's brand new. I pull it out of the vent to show it to him in the light, and he continues with calling it black. We contacted Roth to replace the heating elements and small pressure tank on our hot water heater. Without performing any inspection or diagnostics, the contractor immediately said, "It's impossible to tell which element is faulty, so we replace them all." He quoted us $2,300 and added that he couldn't do the work until 10 days later. Then came option two: for $3,500, he could install a brand-new tank and do it the same day. My partner asked for the readings on the heating elements, and we quickly realized no testing had been done at all. Only after we insisted did the contractor get his tools, open the panels for the first time, and test the elements--finding that only the bottom one was faulty. He then revised the quote to $1,500, but there was no explanation, no breakdown of parts or labor--just an iPad with two rushed options and pressure to sign on the spot. When we confronted him, he claimed that's how pricing is set by headquarters and admitted there's no way to show customers a breakdown. It felt rushed, dishonest, and unprofessional from start to finish. We canceled the service--three times (online, via chat, and in person). The next day, Roth called trying to charge us a service fee, despite the fact that no service was performed. They claimed it was mentioned during booking, but we had screenshots of our entire chat proving otherwise, along with Ring camera footage showing no diagnostics were ever done. The fee was waived after we pushed back. While Roth previously serviced my AC unit, and that contractor was fantastic, this experience was enough to lose our trust completely. We ended up hiring Einstein Pros, who performed the service the next day for $600--a fraction of Roth's fabricated and inflated pricing. Roth was dishonest, pushy, and tried to upsell us with made-up diagnostics. What a scam! read more

Not sure when it happened but, Roth Home is no longer to be trusted. i purchased my AC unit from them 7 years ago, wasn't the best experience as salesman didn't provide what was promised but, overall things were fine. During Recent visit when unit stopped working the tech came on a Saturday, I was confused by his warranty explanation so went ahead and paid for that visit, the $340 part he replaced was covered under warranty, so that was frustrating as they won't call me back to discuss. The tech said more repair was needed for $1742, as the part needed was covered under warranty. Said the job would take 6-7 hours. I got a second opinion from Superior Services, they agreed the repair was need, got the part under warranty and took 2 hours to install it, saved me bout $1400. read more

My water heater control valve failed. I was given a quote of $1,298 to order part and install it. I looked up the part on Amazon and it was $170. When I told the tech the part was only $170 and questioned the quote he said the manufacturer suggested a controller that cost $500. In addition the tech said it would take 2 - 3 hours to do the installation. I signed the quote. Two days later the tech returned with the part and completed the installation in one hour. I looked up the part they installed and it actually retailed for only $100. So, $100 part and one hour installation cost me $1,298! After payment I asked for an explanation from the home office and they said they didn't follow typical time and material pricing and described their pricing methodology which was total bullshit. Bottom line, $100 part, one hour install and $1,298 charge. This company is a rip off. read more

I contracted with this company because the home we purchased in Bend has all electric forced air heat with no a/c. From the initial consultation to the install we experienced timely, friendly service. The team of four arrived on install day and completed all the work in about 6 hours. They also made repairs to the subfloor ducting and added a 220 outlet. All the team members were very professional and answered my questions including confirming the exact routing of lines and placement of the unit to my satisfaction. We called them to replace a kitchen faucet. It was not an emergency just whenever they could come. They put in a Kohler faucet, probably cost about $300.00. We were not told how much it would cost and we did not pre approve an estimate. They charged ue over $1300.00 !!!!! Outrageous Total rip offs!! Not only that but the worker decided to work on our front door because the handle was loose.... no-one asked him to... we were not even home. He didn't fix it... he screwed it up so badly we couldn't get in the front door and had to call another service to fix his screw up. I called the company the next day asking for an itemized list of the cost and they refused saying they don't give itemized costs! I was told the manager would call me back but NO CALL!!! We called and asked Roth for an estimate to replace a noisy bathroom fan. We were not informed at the time of scheduling that there would be a fee for the service. I don't know about you, but I have NEVER been charged to receive an estimate for a project. A pleasant gentleman arrived and spent about 10 minutes looking at our fan and displaying the estimate for work for which he didn't yet have the necessary parts. Since it was more than we expected, we wanted to consider other options, so we didn't want to sign a contract to have them do the work. He told us that Roth expected him to solicit a fee of more than $100...just for an ESTIMATE! I informed him that we've had this business (under previous ownership) do thousands of dollars of work here and that a fee for a brief estimate is ridiculous. He said he'd see if he could get the fee waived. Regardless of that decision, we will halt our current contract (which we've had for a decade) for periodic system maintenance and no longer do any business with Roth. read more

We booked on a Friday for a Sunday block appointment from 12-2pm. They called at 1:55pm to cancel leaving me with little to no time to find someone to come out. They overbooked, cancelled at last minute and then attempted to reschedule with "no promises", seriously? Then they deleted a FAIR & HONEST review on their Instagram page. Do not use this company! We hired them to replace our hot and cold water lines due to previous leaks, and they didn't complete the job resulting in another leak. They tried to charge us to finish the job, and took no responsibility for the damage caused by the leak. Their management is unprofessional and rude. The maintenance contract is a joke. It saves no money, and is just a trojan horse that allows them to sell you on things that aren't needed. I've dealt with a lot of contractors, and Ponderosa Heating and Cooling is the absolute worst. We had them come out to look at our sewer holding tank as we were getting an odor. The guy that came out was nice enough, but he noticed a sound he didn't like coming from the tank. Long story, but he said 2 floats weren't working, we didn't have a backflow valve installed and that our pump had been getting hammered on for the last 8 years it had been installed. He said it wasn't up to code without this valve. He also looked up our address and said that it was never permitted. He said he could replace the floats that weren't working, install a backflow to get it up to code, and replace the pump that had been hammered on for years. The estimate was $8,500! I paid $10,000 in total to get hooked up to sewer, so this didn't make sense. After doing my own research, I found out it was indeed permitted (which I knew it had to be because I paid for the permit). I talked to the city inspector that signed off on it, and it did indeed have a backflow installed. I had the original foreman that did the job come out and look at it. He showed us the backflow valve. He said we didn't need a new pump as it was working fine and there was no need to replace it. He is going to replace the valve (it only has a small leak) and the float (only one isn't working) for $1500. Ponderosa was going to charge me $4200 to replace the 2 floats and valve. Huge difference! I wouldn't trust them again, unfortunately. They were trying to upsell us...and then they offered a discount if I joined their membership club. Good lesson in always getting another quote. read more
