My neighbor and I were out front discussing the trees we both have and decided it wouldn't be a bad idea to get somebody to run a camera through our drains to see what kind of root damage we may have. We hoped to get a slight discount if we could get them done at the same time, 2 jobs, no travel time, possibly 2 additional jobs in the future. My neighbor contacted Roto Rooter and found out that it would cost $350 just to run the camera for each of us (outrageous) but was told that that cost was only if that's the only thing we had done and if we got another procedure that cost would be taken out of that. We scheduled someone to come out and he agreed to $250 for each inspection. He ran the camera from my laundry room where the main clean out is easily accessible. Like I expected he did find roots in the line but not until the end where my line meets the cities connection. It was slowing the flow but wasn't backing it up completely. He appeared to try to push through the roots unsuccessfully. I was told that the only way to fix this problem would be to excavate and replace all the pipe involved and he gave me multiple reasons why no other procedure would work and told me they couldn't guarantee any other procedure. My neighbor's cleanout was even easier to access since his was outside near the sidewalk. Minimal roots were discovered in his line as he had his hydro-jetted a couple years ago. I paid $250 cash and opted to proceed by getting the lines hydro-jetted. I didn't receive a receipt and assumed that was because the job wasn't completed yet. Without an appointment set up yet the guy with the hydro-jet called and said he was available and I told him he could head my way. I was surprised to learn that the hydro-jet hose needed to be ran through the house, down the stairs into the basement and then into the laundry room. He took good care to protect property in the laundry room but nothing to protect the floor or carpet down the stairs from the dirty hose. (not too concerned about this as the carpet is old and the tile could be washed.) I told the tech I wanted him to do what he could do within an hour as I couldn't afford more than that. After some time spent on getting the remote control working (transferring it to another machine or something like that) He ran the hose into the line and I kept an eye on the floor drain in the service room. Once satisfied that the hose was far enough he turned on the water. I was surprised not to get any water coming up from the floor drain. The tech ran his camera into the line and discovered once he got to the point of the "root ball" it had been pushed through and upon pulling back the hydro-jet hose discovered it was into the cities line at least 20 feet. I think he pushed through the roots before ever turning on the water. He then spent the remaining time he had cleaning up the interior of the pipe. He wrote me up a receipt for $695 and I paid with a debit card. The $250 that I already paid completely slipped my mind at this point and I didn't realize I over paid until later that evening. When I realized they hadn't deducted the $250 that I already spent, I text messaged the camera tech and was then told that the $250 would only be deducted if I had excavation work done and not from the price of the hydro-jet procedure. The only reason I even agreed to getting the work done in the first place is because I was under the impression that the job would cost $650 not $945. A few years ago the hydro-jet service was only $450 and I thought THAT was too much. This job should have cost me $650 plus taxes, TOTAL. I have since learned that Roto-Rooter employees are paid commissions and their paychecks are directly affected by how much they can bilk a customer for and that tech would have absolutely had me take out a loan or get financing in order to pay for excavation work that did not need to be performed. Although I'm satisfied with the work, it was not $945 worth of work. In total they were here less than 2 hours. Even less time was spent at my next-door neighbor's house and he also paid $945. The job was straight forward with no unforeseen circumstances or problems; there wasn't any clean up afterwards and the neighbor's job was faster and easier than mine. Edit: The manager contacted me and apologized for the misunderstanding. He offered to give me the price of what I thought it was going to be before the job started. I appreciate that and accepted his offer. As long as a company does the right thing and attempts to make the customer happy I really can't complain but please keep in mind of what could possibly happen. read more

We had a slow leak that seemed to develop over 24 hours from a nearly four-year-old water heater safety tank (blue). I requested the service in the late evening through Yelp and got a response in 17 minutes to schedule it. They had an opening the following morning, starting at 8, which we took. Three minutes later, multiple confirmations via text and email were sent to verify that the address and time selected were correct. The plumber arrived about 45 minutes after the time window opened. We asked for shoe covers, which he put on. (That has not been our experience, even when we insist.) He confirmed our suspicion that the tank needed to be replaced. After a brief outing, he came back with parts. Our original estimate was $379, but there needed to be a support bracket, which he strongly recommended that he add. (Our old one was hanging unassisted parallel to the ground.) The final total was under $500, including tax. Other than some crumbs of pipe dope, there was no mess. So far, everything is working well. I called on 10/28 and got a 12-2 appt, they sent "your next in line" robo text for the next 6 hours, at 9:30pm rescheduled me to 10/29 at 12-2 appt time again, another day of robo texts saying I'm next in line, rescheduled me to 9-10am on 10/30. If you are considering hiring RotoRooter to clear your stopped up sewer line, please read on and see what kind of problems I ran into by using them. I didn't do enough research on this company nor did I read all of the negative reviews of their work before I contacted them. So here is your chance to avoid hiring them. On September 30, 2024, my sewer line backed up and flooded an area around the basement floor drain. RotoRooter was called on October 1, and after a couple of hours of snaking the line failed to clear the clog, Mark Sullivan from RotoRooter showed up on site to review my collapsed sewer line . He advised that the sewer service line under 111th Street was broken and that RotoRooter would excavate the city street and repair the sewer line. A $30,000 contract was written and a couple of days later the RotoRooter construction crew showed up to begin the work. The sewer was out of service for 2 or 3 days and was repaired and put back in service around October 6. The site work was cleaned up and the crew loaded up and left without making any comments on the hole that they left in the city street. I suspected that the city would be out in a couple of days to make repairs to the city street and replace the concrete where RotoRooter had jack hammered. After a couple of weeks without any work being done, I contacted the city to see when they had the replacement of concrete on their schedule and was advised that RotoRooter had not gotten the permits for the work, and that they were unaware of the hole in the street that they would have to fix. That was about October 15. I contacted Mark Sullivan and advised him of what I had been told by the city and he told me that the city only needed some paperwork from RotoRooter advising the city that RotoRooter had finished their work and that the city could proceed with the concrete repair to the street. After another 2 weeks, it is now November 7, I contacted Pat Swanson, the RotoRooter Customer satisfaction manager, and was told that he would be in contact with the RotoRooter local branch to get the job moving. Two more weeks went by and still no work, so I contacted Pat Swanson again on November 20 and a couple of days later RotoRooter sent a couple of guys out with a bobcat and they cleaned out the two feet of mud in the excavation and backfilled it with sand and compacted it. On November 25, the city of Omaha inspector showed up and checked the compaction and finalized the inspection. I have had barricades, signs and flashing lights in front of my house for the last 2 months. The city's street repair crew showed up on December 3 and poured concrete. The Todco 'Street Repairs Ahead' Warning Signs were taken down and placed in my yard on December 5 and then removed from the site on December 6. So the project is finally completed after 67 days. Needless to say that I won't be contacting Roto-Rooter again for any work. So if you are planning any sewer work at your place, please consider the problems that have been going on with my job and think about contacting a different contractor than RotoRooter for the work. read more

We have a plan with another local company who takes care of all of our plumbing-who ended up actually taking care of our needs. Roto rooter took care of the flood caused by the other company and then proceeded to harass my company and staff for months because the other company didn't pay them. Mitch at Roto-Rooter solved two separate leak problems for us. We called about a major leak, and he figured out it was the cartridge in our Moen fixture. He was neat, clean and professional. I called Roto-Rooter in a panic on a Thursday night because the drain in my basement floor had about a foot and a half of water sitting around it. The moment the roto-rooter guy answered the phone, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. He had the most soothing, confident voice. I immediately felt relieved and could just tell they had this covered. I'm in my third year of medical school (the busiest year), so I had no idea how I could get someone over to fix this problem in a way that would work with my schedule. The guy on the phone literally offered to send someone that night, but I opted for the next day right after work. Sam and Ray from Omaha showed up right at the beginning of the four hour arrival window -- it was the most ideal timing. I'm getting chemo right now and nervously explained on the phone that I was much more likely to get sick because of this and asked if his technicians would wear masks. When Sam and Ray showed up, they already knew about my mask request and were more than happy to oblige (they were so considerate they even wore clean booties in the house every time they entered). I spent most of my time with Sam; he was personable and patiently taught me about what he was doing as he was doing it. I'm pretty curious so I had a ton of questions and he knowledgeably answered each one. When a person does that in medicine, we call them a good doctor. I hereby recommend we call Sam and Ray the Drain Doctors of Omaha. If we want people who are kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, and caring to take care of our bodies, why not also want that in the people taking care of our houses? Made a reservation and got a email confirming service window 8 am- 10 am. No show, no call. Called for update at 11 am and was rescheduled to 4pm-6pm window. Got a call at 3:30 pm informing no guarantee to show up at all today. I asked to cancel my appointment if they cannot visit by 6 pm. They said they won't make any promises but will keep me posted. I will update this review based on what happens next. Update 5:00 PM - Got a call informing they cannot show up today. Rescheduled it for 8 - 9 A.M tomorrow. Update (next day 10/5) : The technician completed the work. Informed object blocking toilet was closer hence got pushed out easily. Could not determine what it was. Swiftly collected payment, charged a hefty price. I did ask if this was weekend rates since it was significantly higher than average. He informed its the base price. No apologies or anything was said about the whole experience. Update 10/06 : In response to their request on my google review I have shared the service address so that the company can look into my experience shared here. I will post an update on what happens next. Update 10/10 - Over last couple of days, several folks from customer service and management called me to discuss issue at hand and offering to compensate for the bad experience. This is the second plumbing company that I found that pulls a bait and switch. They give you one estimate and then from that point, nickel and dime you to a much higher amount. There are companies out there that think all customers are stupid. Initially, I was given an estimate of $450 by Roto-Rooter (with a so called military discount) to replace my garbage disposal (it was $850 if they supplied the disposal). I purchased a 1 hp disposal at Home Depot and because I upgraded from a 1/3 hp, now the plumber told me it might be more if the disposal outlet doesn't line up with my line (that's why disposals have an adjustable ring). Also, when he returned to install my disposal, he had an drain tech meet him (my sink would drain slowly). I told this guy that I don't need a drain tech for a clogged p trap (he was planning on snaking my drain line all the way through the basement which would have ended in a higher charge). I refused and said that I'll clean out the p trap. So he went to his truck to call his supervisor. I removed my p trap and showed the other guy the clogged p t trap and I proceeded to clean it out. He then went out to the other guy and told him that he is not needed (probably told him that the jig is up!). So when he returned, he told me that the cost may be an extra $100, which would make it a total of $550. I asked him how much do I owe right now and he said $99. So I told him that we agreed on $450 (which is already excessive), so he does the job for $450 or I'll pay him the $99 and replace it myself...his decision. So he called his boss and received the ok to do the job. But, since I purchased my own disposal, there is no warranty implied...even for the install. I agreed. He installed it fine with no issues (I had a former employee of another plumbing company tell me that the company trains the employees on how to increase the job cost, so this is the playbook for several of these companies). So the moral of the story is, Homeowner Beware, as there are companies out there ready to take advantage of you even under the guise of offering a military discount! read more

It's pretty much a big sales call they're not really interested in fixing anything but trying to sell you a bunch of stuff. Me saying they they overcharged would be huge understatement. It's borderline scamming. Kind of the solar companies, and gutter guard companies. You're pretty much paying double what you pay anywhere else at minimum. I would avoid Roto-Rooter at all cost from a value standpoint. The only reason why I gave them two stars is because they did get out to me in a timely manner, my advice to this company and the local business is take care of the customer and not your pockets 1st. read more

Roto-Rooter addressed a root ball blocking our drain between the house and the city sewer line. The work required accessing the drain line 10 feet underground behind my neighbor's fence (under a retaining wall of railroad ties). Roto-Rooter complete the sewer repairs and then left the site with the retaining wall dismantled and the dirt pile still there. After I pointed this out, I was told I signed a release that acknowledged Roto-Rooter did not do landscaping work. I agreed that I had, but I pointed out that the job was not complete because NO ATTEMPT WAS MADE to return the site to its original condition. VERY DISAPPOINTING. Months after Roto-Rooter left, the site was returned to a much better condition (see photos) without purchasing any additional railroad ties or soil by an overweight 63year-old man with a bad knee (me!). So they would not give me any kind of an indication of what it would cost to snake my sink drain over the phone. Dude came in and quoted me $300 to clear the drain line. I told him Burton plumbing and heating which I don't recommend for other reasons, has an $88 drain clearing special. And that I wasn't interested in paying $300. Rotorooter is the Worst decision I've made in a long time. They said they would be their between 8AM-10AM. They showed up at 12! I could have went to work instead of waiting at my small business. When they got there they looked at it from the basement ( didn't touch or any type of inspection) and said "cracked pipe, nothing I can do. We will get a master plumber out here." I told them it's not a cracked pipe it was over flow from the wax ring. He was gone in seconds. I was called by Bobby and he said they would get a master plumber out the next day to replace the pipe. I would just need to be closed on Friday night at the bar. I was mad about losing a Friday night because of a clogged pipe. I was able to get another tech out and they helped. But the dispatch operator was extremely rude. This tech did a decent job at at least trying. He put a smaller snake down the drain and I believe make the easier to clear. Major Drain came in and used a main pipe snake down. If it was a cracked pipe it would have demolished the pipe. Moral of the story: go to Amazon buy a 99.00 jetter and a power washer and just do it yourself. It will at least save you the grief. read more

We've been having issues with our hose and we got water in our basement about a week ago.. we call roto-rooter and set up an appointment to get this looked at / fixed.. 3 times in a row they tell me they are unable to make the appointment, so I have rescheduled multiple times and get the same answer every time telling me they can't make it.. these ppl are not reliable at all.. not responsive or helpful in any situation.. the customer service is trash and extremely rude.. finally when I call to tell them I would like to cancel services with them.. all I get in response is.. okay bye... First, they offer a "$75 off" offer...so, I ask how much to snake a kitchen drain. In July, they (Roto Rooter) ran the wrong snake head down my drain, it got stuck and broke off. They charged me 3000.00 to "repair" my line....which actually meant to tear up my concrete floor to retrieve their part. They were to replace 3 feet of pipe. Today I had another company come open the same line, so I had him run a camera in that line..... No pipe was replaced, they just got the part, pushed the pipe together and filled the hole with concrete. I paid $3000.00 so they could retrieve their part and ruin my line, which now will have to be dug up and replaced by REAL plumbers, which will cost me thousands of dollars. I normally don't like doing this type of thing but I don't know what else to do. This is my story and experience with Roto-Rooter. It was a complete nightmare! Everything I am saying I have pictures, messages, and emails to back it up. We had a pipe burst in our wall on August 31st of 2023. They set up fans for the water September 4th of 2023. They ripped out the wall's September 7th and found mold. Said it was a slow leak overtime then it finally burst. When they ripped out the walls they a big gaps to the garage and didn't close off the dryer vent that they exposed. I will get into why that is important later. They ran the fans 3 weeks straight. All they did was run up our electric bill. I know there is a process they needed to follow but they were in no hurry. We stopped by the house 2 time just to grab things. Everything looked normal. On September 21st my wife goes to the house and there is mouse poop everywhere. The house smells funny and all the plants have been dug into by mice. I have pictures of all of it. At this point is were thing got much worse. I was very upset! So I called the GM Bryce. He came out and wasn't much help so I asked for his bosses number this is his response to me. "It's my department, so I am the boss. You can deal with me. However, the home is owned (customer name)so he is our customer. That being said, I am still keeping you in the loop with what we are doing there. " As the renter I have the right to know what's going on with my property which was getting destroyed. He failed to do that or give me a solution. Along with that we had the owner permission in writing that we can make decisions on his behalf. I was running point on this so the landlord didn't have to. I call the headquarters and that was a horrible experience because they just passed me around. I finally got an email from Jeffrey Shewmaler. This was 6 days later. I have all of the emails. He said he filed an insurance claim but after a couple days of not hearing anything. I go to the number that was sent in the email and it wasn't a real number. It wasn't till October 4th till someone reached out to me. One day later. They denied my claim. I called to ask why and the lady could not answer my questions so she gave me her supervisors number. The supervisor never called me back and to this day they haven't. No explanation or anything. After a week of leaving messages I gave up because I was so exhausted. I will never call Roto-Rooter again. Learn from our mistake! We had to move out of our rental house permanently because we ran out of $8000 in rental insurance. They took so way too long. Plus we have to start all over with our furniture. read more

I had a clog in my laundry line and they responded quickly. The issue is the technician wanted to use my hot water line to my washing machine to run water after breaking up the clog and he broke the handle off completely. I looked thru my records and they were the one's who installed that spigot. Then he moved on to the cold water and inadvertently loosened the packing nut and sprayed water. Fortunately, tightening up the nut stopped it. He then called and they were going to send a plumber out to fix it, and it sounds like they were going to charge me, but we did not get that far yet. I mentioned that I had American Home Shield and I didn't use them because the response would be to slow. The Tech told me that they actually work with them and that I could probably get some reimbursement. So, I called AHS and they said that Roto Rooter just needed to call AHS and they would work something out and also get them approved for future work. Good deal right. Wrong! I called Roto Rooter and said they would not call AHS because "they never call Home Warranty Company." Zero interest in helping me get reimbursement and this is after they broke the handle on my hot water line and jacked up the nut on the cold-water line. Good job on the clog, horrible customer service. The rep literally said, "we are ok without your business." Granted, I have used them only 4-5 times over the last ten years, but I expect better than that. So, after $377 dollars for an hour of work, I am left with a broken hot water spigot, a compromised cold water spigot, and get treated poorly. BUYER BEWARE. read more

Made the appointment online this time to have the mainline cleared from tree roots. They do much like the cable companies and schedule a block of time in two hour slots. While they took almost the entire two full hours before anyone arrived, their dispatcher did call and the tech showed up within a few minutes. All involved were pretty prompt and polite and listened to my issues and concerns. Tech even did clean up after the job was completed. Plus is they had a $30 coupon from their online website and the Tech didn't even hesitate or ask questions which was awesome. Bonus is they offer a 180 day guarantee on most of their work (especially main lines). Down fall, last two times I've used them I get charged an $8 fuel fee. You think they could just roll that into their service call instead of itemizing something like that. read more

Update: After expressing my concerns above, was discounted $40. Better than nothing but still feel like I was rolled. I'm all for paying plumbers. Biggest rip-off EVER! My downstairs shower was draining slow. Service tech arrived & within 20 minutes told me he hit mud, said drain had completely collapsed & it will require extensive repair. He had his Supervisor come give a written bid & what a scam! $6,500+. Had another plumbing company come look, as well as a sewer specialist. Both said the drain had NOT collapsed & they ran a snake out 15' & to direct line. Have had so many people say what a rip-off some of the big companies are & I believe it. Don't know how a Company can have a tech & Supv be so dishonest to people. Shame on you ..talk about taking advantage, especially of the older generation. What could've been a huge expense for me ended up costing me under $150! And my shower drains fine!! read more

Called them because our main sewer line was backing up. They were quick to respond and tried to address the clog but stated it was a bigger issue and would require jetting. Scheduled us for a jetting the next day, but was told incorrect time that the tech was starting so it was 6 hours later before we received service. They were unable to jet the line and said the line would have to be replaced. We were Quoted $18000.00 for this repair. The quote was not itemized and seemed to be an arbitrary number. We called another company and they were able to address our clog and get the drain working again. They also stated that the repair would only cost $3800. I do not understand the difference in pricing and I really feel like this company tried to take advantage of us. My advice if you use the company is to get a second opinion from someone else. Will Never use them again and they should be ashamed! read more

You guys are NOT a restoration service! You are NOT a certified mold inspecting company (you sent out a soil expert). You need to stick to just snaking drains. The timeliness of this company needs to be improved. It has taken at least 3 weeks not to get our house in order on the account of issues you have caused stemming from one simple plumbing error. I don't want your computer generated "We value your service, we apologize for [insert issue]" because that BS isn't going to fly. Your workers act like they are new to the job and I hate that our house had to be the training house for your incompetent workers. At first they said all was fine in the downstairs [where the problem started] and somehow it travelled upstairs to our kitchen and to our family room which are both now torn to shreds. They said we could wash clothes after they worked in the family room but did NOT hook the hose back up and ended up flooding the entire room. They tore up the carpet [which wasn't even a year old yet] had industrial fans blowing for DAYS. The same happened in the kitchen where we were told we could wash dishes and they did NOT hook the hose back up under the sink flooding the kitchen. They completely destroyed our floor and pulled out the dishwasher blocking drawers that have our silverware. As of now, we are still waiting to hear back from the mold person [WHO SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN IN OUR HOUSE] so that we can get a REAL restoration company to come and put our house together. Long story short, we will NEVER use Roto Router again because you guys are not reliable nor are you professional in handling clients in a timely manner. read more

My "main line""overflowed" Derrick and Joe showed up at almost the same time and got to work. Derrick on getting me flushing toilets again, Joe on getting my insurance to pay for cleaning up all the poopy water! WHO KNEW!!!??? These two are my hero's! I only regret that I didn't take the time to do this sooner! Everyone was very nice and professional. I was skeptical but everything I was promised was just as I was told. If you have a mainline issue get the Derrick and Joe team, or just plan on problems. They are the best! Oh and they are veterans as well!! Ironic that I'm leaving 5-stars for a plumbing review...after all, when I have to call the plumber I'm typically not in the best of moods because it means there's an issue and it's going to cost. We've had other plumbing companies out to our house for various reasons, but for the past five years we've been using the folks at Roto-Rooter. Always prompt, always polite, and always manages to fix the problem without calling five other technicians and leaving with a 4-digit bill for what seems a simple job. So this morning while doing the laundry (on a Husker Saturday, mind you), we did not hesitate to call our go-to plumbing company when our basement drain decided to quit draining. We super-appreciate that Rene (#4410) got here at the top of the given time span (between 1-5 today) so we could take care of business before it was game time. Found the problem. Educated my husband. Cleaned up before leaving. I also appreciate how he pointed us to a coupon (since Roto-Rooter does not have a frequent customer program for us - LOL). It's now game time and our drain has NEVER drained this well (seriously). GO BIG RED! read more

The scheduling service was quick and painless. The tech was on time and the dispatch called 5 min before he arrived. The tech that came out was extremely courteous and professional. The main line was unclogged and he cleaned up after himself. I would defiantly call them again. read more

Called on the 27th of August because of an active leak at my property. they told me they could be out the next day between 0900 and 100 pm. The next day they called me at 1258 and told me they would not be able to make it. Had a bad experience the first time i used them but tried again since they would be able to be out the next day. there is no reason i will utilize them again after this let down. Would have been nice if they called me earlier so I could have made arrangements but of course that is too difficult. Please do not use this company as they are not reliable. read more

Find out that myh water heater was leaking so I called Roto-Rooter. Service guy named Phil came out and told me my worst fears, my water heater was shot. A water heater that came with the house when it was built in 1998 so I think from living at my house since 2009 I got the mileage out of it!!! Phil gave me an estimate on a new water heater and it was installed the very same evening. Took about an hour and it's working as it should be brand spanking new!! Customer service at Roto-Rooter was very helpful and polite. Phil my service technician was very helpful and did an excellent job. I would definitely recommend Roto-Rooter to anyone!
