I was so looking forward to unloading paint balls on my friends for my birthday! So I was psyched when I head this place was open on Saturday. Since I had a small group, I didn't make reservations...mistake #1. It was super crowded there with lots of kids and teenagers...from the city. There must have been 5 birthday parties there. So I got there at 1300 and ended up leaving at 1500.....with zero paint balls down range or on any of my friends. Mistake # 2 did not check the weather. Gorgeous weather = crowded paint ball field. The field itself was disappointing. I like playing the hoods and taking cover behind rotten tree stumps and hiding in the leaves. No such luck here. It was all man-made obstacles. Which is fun, but you definitely do not get to be one with nature. So I did not get to shoot at all due to poor planning. If I had my own gear, I probably would have been able to get on the field. I do plan on returning...either with reservations or during the weekday. They offer a military discount with a current military ID so I definitely will come back. This place is not easy to spot off the road. Coming from 695 if you see a go cart track and a bunch of sheds, turn right soon. Other than that its not too hard to get to and its very convenient to Baltimore. read more

Brought my nephews and brothers to enjoy a day of paintball. Turned out great. I haven't played in 10+ years so the gun I have hasn't seen action in that long either. The staff took a lot of time to help me get it up to speed and threw in batteries and an air tank. The fields were nice, and the experience overall was awesome. Recommend this place. Kind of run-down, really muddy, no cammo, no identifying color teams (with bandanas, vest, etc) and the regulars aren't checked to make sure their PSIs are set to a pre-determined level. Really, it's only a good deal if you go with a group of 10+ and don't allow the "regulars" to play with you. read more

Had a great time here for my first paintball experience last year. They had a bunch of different areas for us to play around in, and they paired our group of four with another group so we could enjoy some lively competition. (Hilarious that our group was at least 10 years older than our teenage competitors, and we still kicked their butts.) Didn't have any trouble with the equipment we rented, but I'd advise anyone going to bring some water and snacks for your paintball breaks because I don't remember their offerings to be very impressive. Parking wasn't a problem. At least one course was out of commission for some reason, though. Also, a lot of their picnic tables were rickety/bordering-on-dangerous, so down time between paintball sessions was less than awesome. read more

As I write this review, I am reminded of a paintball that left a bruising mark on my left bicep. That paintball came from my latest experience at Route 40 Paintball two weeks ago. The last time I came to Route 40 Paintball before that was about 6 years ago; not much has changed since that time. The courses still look the same, with its edge of ruggedness. The rented paintball guns still operate in the same ways I remember from years past, while the staff provides the same check-in process for all groups. The last time my group (10+) came here, there was only one other party that was present. My group had made reservations in advance due to the group size, which turned out to be the best option. I strongly recommend making reservations if you are planning to come on the weekends so your party doesn't mean mug you to death when you find out the field is already full, all because you decided not to make a reservation. Another thing: you have to have everyone in your group sign individual waiver forms. Have these forms filled out before coming to the park so that you will not eat into your actual playing time. More information can be found on the website. Do not bring your own paintballs to Route 40 Paintball; you have to purchase the park's paintballs. From my knowledge, there are four different fields. Of course, don't expect the fields to be in tip top shape; they are not supposed to be. Before starting the games, the party-assigned referee goes over the rules and regulations. The past referees that our groups had were helpful to say the least. So how did I fare on the actual field? Well, put it this way: when you are going against current and former Military members, along with those who consistently play Gears of War and games alike, your odds of being victorious are slim. Nonetheless, the group had a lot of fun and no one was seriously hurt. Some egos were crushed in the process, but that's for another day. Make sure to have that GPS ready because you can drive right past the park without even knowing it. There is a sign, but the sign is not that huge. read more

This has got to be the worst establishment known to man! I'm amazed with their unbelievably horrific lack of customer service that they are still in business! I've never in my life been treated so rudely and down right nasty in my life by not one but two employees!! I put a $50 deposit on my child's birthday party in Feb, it snowed and they closed so the party was canceled. I asked for my deposit back and they offered me a T-shirt lol. Me and 5 other family members had a Groupon for this place from Christmas and had to use as it was getting ready to expire.This was the first time for 4 of us.Safety course was very good on the do's and dont's.We had a great time for the first several hours.Then a group of 10 who are regulars there came and knew the refs.When they were getting hit with paint they would not go out and the refs did nothing about it!Guess if you frequent this place a lot you can cheat if you know the refs!Also one thing that disturbed me is if a person sneaks up to you and points the gun at you you're suppose to give the other person a chance to say he surrenders and that group of guys would just shoot you and the refs did nothing. Even in the safety course they said give the person a chance to surrender so they don't get hurt getting shot at close range. Does not tickle getting shot.I assumed it would be adult refs, nope all teenagers.The other thing is the rental guns are horrible and when shoot are not accurate and kept jamming up the whole time even after getting the barrel cleaned out. Would not recommend going here because of risk of getting hurt do to refs not doing there job. Only thing they enforce is keeping your safety mask on while game is in play.My 14 year old nephew actually got hurt by the guy coming within 2 feet of him not giving him a chance to surrender and just opened fire on him.Bad thing is you have to sign a waver so they are not liable if you do get hurt which don't seem right since refs are not enforcing the rules of the game!So our first experience was a bad one. Great for adults but die to safety concerns and lack of effective employees I would not recommend for kids under 13. I recently played paintball here for the first time. First, I thought the courses were great, the equipment worked well (they could have better, and less worn out and broken- side panels would have helped with head shots). My biggest complaint was about the employees. Towards the end of the day the referees decided to play with the remaining groups, which at first sounded fun. In one game they delayed the start of a round by over 20 min just gearing up. One referee went against protocol and even went shirtless, not sure if it was to act tough or to impress the other young girls there. Because the refs were now playing they put in a regular player, a 10 year old as referee. This was largely ineffective and in my opinion inappropriate. When guns jammed there was no referee to assist with the equipment as they were all playing the game. the other major concern was safety and protocol. When you are shot you are suppose to put up your hands and walk off field. I received two shots in the side of the head and raised my hands instantly, this was followed by 2 more right in the same spot. As I walked off field with my hands up I got shot 2 more times. The 10 year old ref at that point wasn't even paying attention to the game and at that point it was mostly refs left int he game, I hate to think that it was one of them that was shooting people after they were out, especially with head shots. During the second game the refs played with the groups they once again delayed the game start, but by over 30 min this time. To the point that several players who paid to be there were complaining and many decided they did not want to play because of the long wait. In this game they decided to play refs against all other players. Before the game even started they let 2 players sit up on the ref lookout to watch the game and one of the refs shot her in the back to be funny. Seemed inappropriate. Once the game started the 4-5 refs held their own but even when they were shot and obviously out they continued to play and make up excuses for why they were not eliminated yet (I did not care who won but this was not fun for those who did care, or even for the kids who were there and upset that the rules were not being followed). The largest concern I had was during this game. There is a rule that you cannot shoot anyone within 15 feet, and if you pin them down you are to ask them to surrender. Many players were encountered by the refs towards the end within 10 feet and shot multiple times at this close range. I would have expected more integrity and better adherence to safety rules by the employees rather than the paying members to have to remind them of these rules. In the end this is a good place for adults and older teenagers to go but due to safety concerns and lack of effective employees I would not take kids there. The disregard for safety rules and the disregard for the enjoyment of paying customers over what the employees wanted to do made this a sour experience for many. Again I think this is a location that works well for adults. In a game that is dangerous in many ways it is important that the people hired to uphold safety standards are able to follow those rules as well when playing. read more

$20 for 2 hours of paintballing, gun, fask mask, light vest, and 100 paintballs. You can buy extra paintballs from them as needed. Went with a bunch of friends, we did spend the first 1/2 hour or so signing waivers and getting gear, so planning to meet a bit before your start time so you don't lose play time might be a good idea. There were 3 or 4 fields we played on, similar props in all of them but different combinations, it might have been nice to have a little more variety. There were enough of us that we just played amongst our group of friends, so that was really fun. The staff were friendly, helpful, and reminded us of the rules regularly so there were no issues or injuries. We had tonnnns of fun! My only complaint was that staff needs to watch the parking lot a little closer.. Someone shot paintballs onto a bunch of the cars, and the parking lot is *not* close to an area where paintballs should be shot, or would be reasonably expected to end up. That's all! read more

ive been here twice and it has disappointed me twice. it probably has to do with my high expectations from my last home field. the other review has pretty summed up all the problems so i wont go much into details. over crowdedness is definitely the number one problem. walk ons get treated like crap. parties get to use whatever fields they want and when they want. so walk ons end up waiting 30+ minutes to play. Yes, there is a lack of types of fields. just all mainly hyper/speed ball fields. why 2 stars? price and nice experienced players that ive met there. loss of the other 3 stars? lack of field cordination. there are 4 fields. rotate every party from one to the next. terrible treatment of walk ons over parties. safety. i rarely take off my mask unless im next to my car. idiots playing with full auto. no plugs. playing pain game. i just keep coming back here bc its the closest field to me. read more
