There's all kinds of great murals, public works of art, and awesome shops to check out up in here. It's right down the way on Route 66 from University of New Mexico, so it's a younger, hip crowd that goes here for local grub, shopping, and events. You're sure to find all kinds of old Route 66 memorabilia, or stuff made by local artisans. It's all small local businesses, there are no chains around here as far as I know. You're sure to find some cool foreign grub, a nice tattoo parlor, or a kitschy gift shop that focuses on Abq pride. Parking can be challenging- keep an eye out for private lots or the back streets off of Central Ave.

This is a neat little city. There is not a lot going on here, but the city is known for a few…read morethings. Its premiere event is the annual International Ballon Festival. I had the pleasure of attending it and it was an amazing experience. It is definitely must see. The city is also known for the show Breaking Bad, the Magic School Bus (from what my kids told me) snakes and aliens, yes aliens. It is also known as the Burque, and Duke City and happens to be the most populous city in New Mexico. The city has an extensive and storied Native American background and you can see a lot of its influence in much of its customs, art, architecture and souvenirs. Just like every major city, Albuquerque, has it issues with crimes and homelessness. As you would expect, this city has some awesome Mexican food. It also has a decent amount of public street art. The city is home to a semi-pro ice Hockey, minor league baseball team, a couple of soccer teams, and arena football team and New Mexico Lobos athletics. The city has a mild climate, but does get very cool during winter months. It does get really hot in the summer too. I really liked my visit to Albuquerque. While you are there, a visit to old Albuquerque is a must. Yes, it is a tourist trap, but there is a huge collection of gift shop, restaurants and other attractions in the one areas.

I originally found an online post about this wood carving back in, say, 2012, researching funky, unique landmarks in the 505, and the next day I went on a hunt to find it. Sure enough, tucked away in a corner of the asphalt, this gorgeous little work of art sat, unloved. Several years ago the church moved it to a prominent spot on the property. Go to the northwest corner of North Plaza st and San Felipe and you'll see a colorful, hand carved stump featuring Our Lady of Guadalupe, grab a selfie, it's a great backdrop. Word has it that in 1970, a parishioner carved this icon into the heart of the tree. I'm happy it's back, and glad disco remains buried.

Albuquerque Autobahn! This north/south expressway is the…read morefastest way to get around Albuquerque. Most of the way into town, you'll see big empty spaces, warehouses and industrial buildings. It's not exactly a scenic route, but it does take you parallel to the Rio Grande, which is a nice drive. You take this road up to Santa Fe, or down to Las Cruces. The highlight of the whole road is the "Big Eye" where it intersects with I-40 near the center of town. I gotta give a shout-out to San Antonio Blvd! Woot! It's arguably the best-named exit on this roadway. Pro tips: Don't bother using your turn indicators, because you won't want anyone to know what you're thinking. Floor it all the time, like you stole that car, and tailgating seems to be the local common practice. Be a forward thinker, and don't use your rear view mirrors, because that's only focusing on the past, when you should be looking forward. Speed limit signs are merely decorative suggestions. Gawking at balloons from the shoulder is supposedly prohibited, but an acceptable way to take in the view. Be sure to check out the cool designs on the overpasses and exits- you gotta look fast, since you should be driving at maximum speed. Braking is for the weak. Braking = bad.

As I drive south to Albuquerque from Bernalillo I adore the majestic views of the Sandia Mountains a view I cannot put a price tag on. Admiring the eastern view of the snow capped mountain tops in the winter to the beautiful bountiful greenery in the summertime along my route I love the drive on I-25!

I'm thinking this mostly because every time I'm walking at the river I have music blasting in my ears whether its country, rap, rock or Christian tunes. Today I think I'll do a google search for songs about this Grande River so that next time I'm walking I can jam to tunes from back in the day when peeps adored this mighty body of water. I love walking along the bosque at the river especially now that the weather is getting nice and warm and the flowers are blooming. There are trails throughout the different areas and are on both the east and west side of the river that take you right up to the water, so be careful because at times (not a lot but there are times) when the river is running pretty darn fast! Here is a bit of Rio Grande River trivia for all you folks visiting the beautiful Land of Enchantment: Did you know that the Rio Grande River runs all the way from Colorado to Texas? It flows out to the Gulf of Mexico! Now that's some fun info! This is located inside the park but can be accessed through the streets surrounding it…read more I spent a couple of hours here sitting on top of the structures watching the balloon glow from there. There are cactus at the edge of both structures so if you jump up to get to the top be careful not to fall down the 4-foot wall down to the prickliest haha. The two structures are pokestops so if you need items drop a lure and you are set to go! There is no lighting in this part of the park so be cautious, there is a trail that goes through it but it is a dirt road, not bathrooms nearby either. I did encounter some photographers who were there to take photos of the balloons down below and had a nice talk with them about their time here in ABQ.
