We brought our dog here for all of the "Family Dog" classes [I-IV) last year. Positives: 1) Our rescue dog went from knowing nothing to learning how to touch, sit, down, stay, walk on leash, come when called, and leave it. 2) The trainer we worked with, Aiden, was enthusiastic and helpful and knew our dog by name. 3) Our dog loved to go there each week for class. 4) Scheduling is flexible and you sign up week to week. Negatives: 1) The facility isn't very clean--it smells of urine and has piles of dog hair everywhere. 2) The pace of learning was a bit slow--you're limited by the least advanced dog in the class because of the way the classes are structured. We ended up simultaneously enrolling our dog in a class at a different facility so he could stay engaged and learn new things. 3) The company puts most of its energy into training service dogs--the other aspects of the business seem like afterthoughts. Other thoughts: I think that Roverchase has grown too fast and hasn't put systems in place to keep up. There are many times we were told "you need to talk to Abby about that". Unfortunately, Abby was bad about not answering email, returning calls, or showing up for booked in-home private lessons. When she is with our dog, she definitely knew her stuff and was able to give us helpful advice (that worked). She's just stretched too thin and hasn't realized yet that this is hurting her business. INDIVIDUALIZED TRAINING I have a Brussels Griffon puppy, Kyle who is a year old and he was having major aggressive and submissive acts with my pug and no other animal. I spoke with my vet and before putting him on medication, she recommended that I call Abby at Roverchase. I really didn't want to put him on medication and wasn't sure that just behavior training would help. I was skeptic because he was so bad but willing to try anything at this point before it got worse. Abby and her assistant, I think Megan, came to my house to evaluate and assess what I needed to do. She came every two weeks and we went over a new training tool each time. EVERY time she left, I was like NO WAY. There is no way this is going to work. and EVERY time, it worked. Not only did I have to train my one dog, but I had three that I had to train so that they all understood where they needed to be and what they needed to be doing. I put in the time to work the tools given to me and Kyle is now 90% better than he was before and I am holding off on medication. I interviewed all of the dog trainers I could find in the Birmingham area who were willing to board and train my Doberman puppy for approximately a month. Roverchase was my choice, as their method of training assured me my pet would not be abused or yelled at. This was important to me, as I have small children and did not want an aggressive dog breed to build a fear in humans. Their website infers Abigail will be involved in the training of your dog, but once my dog was inducted into the training, it was clear there is a primary trainer there who actually trains your dog. The website raves about Abigail: "Abigail received her BA in Community Development, Interpersonal Counseling, and Theological Studies and then began her professional certifications for animal behavior, including Victoria Stillwell's endorsed training for Alabama, the only Certified Canine Behavior Consultant in Alabama, and a Certified Pet Dog Trainer. Abigail is now the most certified Canine Behavior Consultant in Alabama and one of the most highly certified professionals in the Southeast" But, again, a trainer who was never mentioned on the "about us" page was the one fully involved with the training and interaction with my pet. I paid $2000 for one month of boarding / obedience training and expected the notorious dog trainer to be involved with the training of my puppy, but it appeared, however everyone but Abigail was running the training portion of the business, again, their names never mentioned on the website; so it's a little misleading. My dog had his ears clipped and posted while in training by a veterinarian. The vet asked for the dog to return weekly so he could retape the ears, while without my consent, the "most certified canine behavior consultant" (not a veterinarian) took it upon herself to retape the ears how she saw fit, because the vet apparently didn't do it to her satisfaction. Upon my return a week later, the ears were taped differently from the vet's. I took my dog to the vet (with my puppy wreaking of urine) for the weekly retaping and the vet had informed me that the customized retape job was inadequate and was done in such a way to force the ear tips to bend. He recommended that he should be the only one to tape the ears. Six weeks later, with weekly routine checkups, inevitably one of the ear tips went bent forward, as he had warned. As far as the training goes, the training was great, he was trained as reasonably expected after a month, with him only being about 12 weeks old. We picked up an obedient puppy who was eager to learn and listen, now house broken, could sit and lay when expected, could "go to his mat" when asked, and was responsive with "recall". Leash training was not fully accomplished, however. I don't think this was the fault of the trainer, but more a result of his young age, and it's just something we will need to work on, but he did receive a good foundational training and familiarization with the leash. A real drawback of the training is what I perceive as "bait and hook" marketing concept in dog training. Roverchase should show appreciation for me allowing them to train and board my dog for a month. There should be a discounted, if not free, follow-up training plan, perhaps an hour one day a week for the next month to ensure the owner-pet relationship/bond integrity is strong as they hope it would be and ensuring the month-long training is not wasted. As passionate as the people are at Roverchase about the animals they care for and train, the owner should extend the same passion to the owners of the pets, possibly contacting the owners who paid a lot of money and ask them how they're doing with their pet's training and if they can offer advice or help with improving and/or sustaining the training invested. 5 stars to the trainer, 2 stars to the business. read more

Please reconsider your dog boarding and training options, I've worked for the company, I've seen how they lie to clients about how their animals are kept during holidays (wire crates are kept in the back for overcrowding) or why cameras don't work ( bc your dog isn't actually in a villa) Also why make your clients pay for an intern to train for 15 minutes when the owner is suppose to " pull your dog from daycare multiple times during the day to work on their curriculum" lots of shady stuff, and as a dog lover I would personally never let anyone in that facility take care of my dog. I use to love this place. My pups were always so happy to be there, which is saying a lot for my anxious puppy. However, I have noticed an increase in prices as well as a slump in customer service. My husband picked up my dogs one day from day care and a bath. Handed the credit card to the lady behind the counter. She manages to only charge the bath. My husband was in a hurry and we did not notice until I received the receipt in an email that she never charged for the daycare. Only the bath hit the credit card. I NEVER had these problems in the past, but now it is constant. I love growing businesses, but if you are growing too fast you are going to have problems, which I think is where this company is right now. I plan to continue to board my dogs there for now, but if things do not improve I will be forced to find some other option. read more

I used Roverchase for their puppy classes, training, and daycare. Riverchase trainers are excellent. They really know their stuff and they give plenty of great advice about your pet. Unfortunately the daycare is not as great. My dog constantly got sick going to daycare, he got several bouts of diarrhea, throwing up, kennel cough, and had significant allergic reactions to a spray they put on him. I tried to tell them not to feed him and not to spray him. Unfortunately, my pleas went unheard. I finally just left. My pup is happy and healthy now and living his best life at a daycare a little further down 31 called Camp Scotty. I would recommend them to anyone! read more

I currently have my 14 week old Maltese enrolled in Puppy K and we are having a great time! The trainers are all very nice and I feel like they care about helping me and my pup build a strong foundation for learning. They are also the only place in Birmingham that I've found who work towards AKC certifications like S.T.A.R. puppy and Canine Good Citizen. I wish they were closer to downtown but I'm finding out that they are well worth the drive! read more

Have used roverchase to board our dog a handful of times. The last two times he has thrown up after we picked him up. When we picked him up they said he threw a up on his blanket and toys and they were still dirty. Smells like urine in the facility always. And they always spray the dogs with a scented spray before they bring them out. When we pick him up from boarding/day care he is so thirsty he will drink two full bowls of water. It's the most expensive boarding in the Birmingham area, not worth the money! read more

I have been a client at Roverchase since they first opened and am extremely satisfied with all of their services- boarding, daycare, grooming and training- group classed, day training and boarding school. My boy loves the staff and is so much happier spending the day playing instead of being locked up in the house. He is so much happier and tired after spending the day at Roverchase. I also like that when when he is boarded he is able to be out playing all day instead of being confined to a small run. I am also very happy with the training we have received at Roverchase; Abby and her staff have done a great job of helping me transform my little man from an okay behaved dog into an almost perfect gentleman. Her training has not only been helpful but has also been a fun, bonding experience for both of us. Overall, I am highly pleased with Roverchase and would recommend them. read more

I have gone through Roverchase group training which was fantastic. Aidan did a great job and took time to work on things that I specifically was having trouble with when there was not a big class. I took my dog to daycare and the owner, Abigail, stated that he was having trouble and recommended a behaviorist that comes to Roverchase every Thursday and Saturday. The price was $400 dollars which I was happy to pay because I really wanted the best for Blue (my dog). We talked with the behaviorist for about an hour and that was the end of the session. The behaviorist did not really teach or show me anything that I did not already know. The behaviorist did not even see the behavior that I was having trouble with but yet she was quick to write out a treatment plan. The behaviorist did say that I would need to do private lessons with Abigail which is not included in the cost. So for $400 dollars I talked to a lady for an hour. This is a big scam and I am really troubled that Roverchase would be a part of it. read more
